So if the Fish tried to reel in Soria and Bell
You've got to think that any trade would start with Maybin for either of those guys and if that's the case, I'll pass. Maybins patient at the plate, but he DOES lack contact... He was lacking contact. He's tearing up AAA right now at .319/.410/.452/.862 clips. By the end of the year, he'll be ready to play up here. You don't throw a potential franchise player away for a reliever that can come at a dime a dozen in free agency. Maybin's one home run in 157 PAs and his 59% GB percentage does not impress me.

We need a starting catcher
As big a problem as the stolen bases allowed is Baker's inabilities to block pitches. He's Olivo-like in this respect.
-
We need a starting catcher
Baker needs to hit more than what he's hitting or he becomes a problem but not too worried just yet.

We need a starting catcher
i don't think baker is comfortable hitting in the bottom of the order. Baker hit .330 and OPSed .959 in 103 ABs hitting 8th last year so my guess is his relative struggles this year are not because of where he hits in the order.

Timeless 20th Century Music?
With Michael Jackson's passing it got me thinking about whether 20th century music will hold up for generations. So whose music from the 20th century do you think will hold up and will be widely listened to 100 or 200 years from now? By "widely listened to" I don't just mean that he will be a well known figure. For example I think Elvis is a historical watershed figure who everyone will know who he is but I don't think his music will be widely listened to. I think the music of the Beatles and Pink Floyd is timeless and will hold up for 100 or 200 years. What do others think? Just curious, who do you think, if anyone, will hold up?

Michael Jackson is dead. R.I.P.
Funny how some of the same people who bashed this guy for being a wacko while being alive are now sad over his death. What a joke. This guy was made fun of for being weird a lot. Now today it's back to "oh, greatest musician ever" because he's dead. I'm not gonna say I hope he goes to hell b/c that's just disrespectful, but he wasn't exactly a saint, and I, somewhat, understand what Mets_bs is saying. Don't just kiss his ass now b/c he's dead b/c if he wasn't, the majority would be saying "great musician, tremendous weirdo." Good stuff Erick.

Beltran to DL
I know many Mets fans don't like him for his supposed lack of grit and blue collarness and all that stuff.

Who's our 3rd best hitter?
An OPS+ of 98 with a line of .267 / .368 / .370 / .738 is not "really really good" and it's not as good as what Ross and Uggla are. If you asked me whether I would be happy with Uggla and Ross putting up those numbers the rest of the season I would say f*ck no.

Who's our 3rd best hitter?
I think bad announcers pollute fans with nonsense and help shape public perception. Case in point is Tommy's whining about hitting with RISP. Most people think we suck at it because of his whining but in reality we're better than average even after the recent drought. This isn't a case of polluted perception, it's a case of most people on here having an extremely short memory, whoever is hottest is the best. There's probably some both.

Who's our 3rd best hitter?
When evaluating a player you're better served looking at the totality of his work. His production is fine for a rookie but he's not a better hitter than Uggla or Ross.

Who's our 3rd best hitter?
Looks to me like Tommy's infatuation with Coglan is spilling over to the fan base.

Beltran to DL
Poor Mets fan is right, its not like Beltran gives a shi*. I don't understand the stereotype that he doesn't give a shi*t. I also don't think he lacks grit.

Who's our 3rd best hitter?
Ross is our 3rd best hitter but Cantu is not the 2nd best: 1. Hanley 2. Uggla 3. Ross 4. Cantu

Josh Johnson's Quiet Dominence
Not really. Big raises are there for exceptional performance.

Call up Nate!
So Brian Sanches and his .59 ERA suck (yes, small sample, and he's been lucky)...your answer is Nate Field? Lets replace a journeyman with a...journeyman? This thread makes no sense. I wouldn't put so much emphasis on the ERA of middle relievers who often times come in in the middle of innings when there are already one or two outs. The guy has pitched well but I don't think a 0.59 ERA (which is beyond fantastic) is not indicative of his performance.

Josh Johnson's Quiet Dominence
I think 40 innings and almost a full run in ERA is a huge difference. I can concede, if Johnson is like top 2 in the Cy Young, All star, gets over 20 wins, loses 5, whiffs 200, saves a child from a burning skybox, has a sub 2.50 era, and pitches an ungodly 240 innings, he gets to $7. This is a very unlikely scenario, and it's rather baffling you expect him to keep this pace. What's realistic is like, 220 IP, 16-8, 170 K, 2.80 era. This is an amazing year. And worth $5 million in arbitration. So after all of that in the end we agree in that if he keeps up his pace he gets $7 million. But what's baffling to me is that you bash me for me expecting him to keep his pace when I've never opined on whether he'll keep his pace or not. Argue with me over what I said, not over what I didn't say. I guess I shouldn't have answered the hypothetical question! Oh please. You have been arguing this way to long to try and fall back on some bogus statement like this. All of your statements align yourself with "JJ is getting $7." Don't even try and pull this. In a 100% best-case scenario where Johnson has one of the best years of any SP in the last decade, he may be able to break the $7 million threshold. Sure, great. This isn't definitive like you're saying. It is highly speculative and unlikely, and the responsible and rational approach is to expect some regression over the second half of the year which greats a normal arbitration number. I've used the $7 million figure in the past because I'm aware that even if his performance regresses he can still get $7 million. The high-end of the market for a 2nd year arbitration pitcher was set by Zambrano when he made $6.5 million based on a platform season of (223 IP + a 3.26 ERA). JJ is on pace to blow away (223 IP + a 3.26 ERA). Even if he ends up with (220 IP + a 3.00 ERA) he'll get $7 million.

6/23 Post Game
Among our regulars he's one of the least likely to hit into a DP based on DPs / PAs. He has sucked so bad there's really no need to fudge data to bash him.

Brett Carroll
Coghaln in left, hermida/Carroll mini platoon in rf, gaby at 3rd. I would do this but according to the guy who pulls Fredi's strings benching Bonifacio is not an option because he's fast... not sure what a mini platoon is. Just do a platoon and see what happens.

Brett Carroll
Hermida is nothing more than a slightly below average MLB outfielder........Time for some of you to accept it. He's not though. Among starting corner OFers he is slightly below average.
-
Lindstrom
Lindstrom's career WHIP is 1.47.

Brett Carroll
He made 2 plays last night that Hermida almost surely wouldn't make.
