Job Hunting Sucks

"You have friends, but don't like them to be too close"

Serious question off a Staples questionnaire... that was 100 questions long... not once did they ask for a resume.

Called a movie theater yesterday to see if they had any openings and was hung up on as soon as the phone was picked up, didn't even get a "hello" in...

I applied to a Barnes and Noble with a (very VERY good) recommendation from a retired Army Colonel who worked in the Pentagon, nothing...

I agree, even with my Bachelors in Business Management I can't get many interviews right now (in Orlando).

are you just looking for a summer job?

Not really, no, but at this point I'm open to most reasonable suggestions. I'm looking for something I can carry through the next couple semesters of school, ideally.

Maybe look at the mall someplace. I am sure some clothing store is hiring and plus you get clothing discounts. I used to work at American Eagle and I got 40% off all clothing . If no place is hiring full time maybe ask if they need help doing floor sets. During a floor set you usually work in the stock room or after the mall closes so you dont have to work on the floor. This might not be the best paying job but its a job.

If anyone lives near or would consider moving near Winchester, Kentucky, Leggett and Platt is hiring.

I doubt anyone would come up here for a job though.......

Pretty decent pay for an entry level job, you have to bust your tail to earn it though.

There's always Publix :(

I worked in publix for 18 months when I was 18, and hated about 3/4 the time, it was ok at the begining, but then you have those wanna be bosses :mad , you know, a yes man, who will just spend the rest of their lives being a Frozen food manager. I liked talking to the customers, and most of the Staff and other workers liked me, and were really nice. I came out of there with some nice memories now that I look back. Thats publix in a nutshell.

Tell me about it, I've been on the hunt for about 2 full months.. job market just sucks.. my folks think I'm just slacking off which pisses me off even more.

Same here.. it's ludicrous

Yeah, online poker is a real resume builder.

Haha, fair enough. I was mostly kidding about the suggestion. My situation is slightly different, mainly in that I'm very unlikely to find a job which will be as "impressive" on a resume as my last couple of jobs/internships.

Online poker was once lucrative (2002-2005). But now with all the restrictions and the fact that all the real fish are broke, it's not longer an easy game to beat.

PWG, see if anyone is hiring at a golf course. Range attendant etc.

Or even better, become the next Tiger and earn big bucks!

Well, cool news is that I'm a PTR certified tennis instructor, and am insured to give lessons and everything. Bad news is that the economy sucks, so not too many people wanna shell out cash for such a frivolity.

Interesting tip TheDon, there's one local place here I'll give a call, but Im not holding my breath.

if you are planning at applying to Lowes, don't. a friend of mine just got laid off yesterday. they pretty much got rid of everyone that they hired in the past 6 months.

I currently work at Publix and they're definitely not hiring. But for some inexplicable reason the job application computer is still plugged in. Apparently they have a policy of not laying off people, which you would think is a good policy. If you're full-time yes but if you're part-time your hours just get cut. I would be full-time if the store manager wasn't such an asshole. Oh well. I'll be graduating fom ITT-Tech later this year anyway. Then I'm out of there. Don't get me wrong. I love Publix. Its just my store manager is making it an unpleasant experience. I just hope whatever job I have in the future doesn't use my store manager as a reference. All the other manager's in my store have changed(the managers move from store to store periodically) at least twice since he's been there. I can't understand why he's still at my store. The store manager and assistant store manager are moved less frequently than the other managers but still he should've been moved a year ago considering how often store managers are moved. I can't imagine its because he's pulled strings to stay there. I'm not exactly sure where he lives, but in the benefits meeting the other day, he said his wife drives past 13 other Publixes to shop at our store, so he must live at least 15 or 20 miles away. He's around 45 so I'm sure this isn't the 1st store he's been store manager at either.

I put an ad on Craigslist for tennis lessons from yours truly... interested to see how many sexual propositions I receive instead...

If you posted a photo that won't be a problem.
