Mets vs. Marlins 7/29 7:10 PM
Range Factor Per Game? Rab, have you ever seen that stat? Yeah, I have. People either go RF per Game or RF per 9 innings. I usually liked RF9 better. Wouldn't RZR be a better indication of a player's range, however? Actually, no. RZR is better for fielding ability within the zone, OOZ is better for range. Also, Uggla is fifth in the NL OOZ. Actually, make that tied for 3rd with that play. You have to look at OOZ along with the innings played. Don't be a Tommy. Well, I'm going with starting 2B. If you don't have enough innings, you aren't a starter. Not every starting 2nd basemen has played the same number of innings.. you know that.

I hate Tommy reason 54865478654541. why Range Factor is useless. I hate him misinforming fans making it seem as if it has some value.

Berardino lists MANY trade targets
The leagues got different pitching styles thats why Miggy has been struggling..he needs to adjust to the different pitching styles Better pitching over there. This is, naturally, a conclusion based upon nothing. AL scoring per game this season: -vs- NL teams: 5.0 -vs- AL teams: 4.6 And that's with the pitcher hitting in half the games vs the NL teams. So a sample that adds up to about 3% of games is definative? And that the sample is not polluted by NL ballparks (which are typically hitter-friendly?) How do you figure 3%? The AL teams have played 1470 games.. 252 vs the NL and 1218 among themselves. When I do the calculation I get 17%. How did you get 3%? I think 252 games (17%) is a good sample size. I'm sure you disagree and that's great!

That could be that the NL has better hitting. Maybe I wasn't clear but my post has nothing to do with the NL hitting. It has to do with the AL hitting and how it compares vs the NL and AL pitching. The AL teams score 0.4 more runs when they face NL pitching than what they score when they face AL pitching. To me says that the AL pitching is superior to the NL pitching.

Berardino lists MANY trade targets
It is easier to hit in the NL than it is in the AL so you might se him turn it around True... but his OPS needs a whole lot of turning around.

Id take Salty...he can also play 1st But will he hit? So far he has not.

Marlins looking to deal Jacobs, Gregg and Ross?
And for those of you saying..."you always make the deal if the right deal comes along." The day Uggla gets traded (could be in the offseason, for all we know), think about the comments you're saying now. B/c that's exactly what The_Godfather and I have been saying all along, regarding Uggla. That, and we have a Top 100 prospect in Chris Coghlan (2B) waiting in the minors. Coghlan a Top 100 prospect? Who rated him that high? http://fantasynews.sportsline.com/fantasyb.../story/10639545 That's just one link. I've also seen him ranked Top 100 according to Baseball America; I just can't open that link right now b/c I'm on a laptop, and it's asking me for a password. The guy who wrote the article is named Eric. That wouldn't be you, would it? He wasn't on Baseball America's preseason top 100. He may be in the mid season one but they haven't put it in the free site.

Harold Reynolds
I'm out of the Florida market so I rarely get to watch televised games. I listen to the MLB gameday audio as much as I can. So, when I'm able to see the games like I was able to this week on WGN and TBS it's nice to see. But I'll have to think about listening to the broadcast if Harold Reynolds is part of the broadcast. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to ring that guy's neck. He's such a freaking moron. On the play the Hammer blew today, he's like "if that guy was a real outfielder he would have easily made that play." HUH?!?!?!? I don't know how many times I have seen the Hammer make great plays! One in particular involved Anibal's no-hitter a few years ago! I don't know how many times I had to hear about how great the Cubs were and how the Marlins defense is just sh*t. Yes, we have a poor defense but we didn't lose because of that necessarily today. Our starting pitching sucked. Hey Harold, you and Kruk (along with all the Marlin haters) should know a little bit more about the team before throwing up your hate! Wondering if anyone else feels this way, it's getting freaking old! Hammer is about an average LF so that comment, if Reynolds made it, is a cheap shot.

Does Dan Uggla have a longterm future with the Marlins?
You think he is the 2007 Uggla, I think he is closer to the 2006 Uggla. And I think neither of those reflects Dan's true performance, and frankly 2006 and 2007 are in a similar statstical range. Dan is a .900 OPS guy (impressive given DS) as of now and it should hold up for a while. :thumbup Great observation!

Does Dan Uggla have a longterm future with the Marlins?
Uggla's slugging amongst 2B is great. He's not really great at anything else, however. I said this during the All-Star Break. His .OPS was 161 points higher than it was at the end of last year. To me, he's just a very streaky hitter. If he wants a long-term contract, he can prove he's worth it by proving last year was nothing more than a sophmore slump. I, personally, believe last year's Dan Uggla is more him than this years' 1st half Dan Uggla. As "The_Godfather" said..."sell high, buy low." See, it depends on how you feel. Was he more like himself last year or in 2006? His OBP at the break was .035 over his rookie season. I don't think it's that big of a deal for a guy to increase his OBP by that after two seasons. I think his he will be closer to this year than his sophomore slumping year in his career. As I said, he can prove he's worth a long-term contract by continuing his 1st half success. He controls his own destiny. His staying or leaving with the Marlins will have a lot to do with how he does from here on out. Whether he can keep his #'s steady, or if they'll look more like last years' #'s. I agree, but we sit on different sides of the fence. You think he is the 2007 Uggla, I think he is closer to the 2006 Uggla. The '06 and '07 Ugglas were basically the same. I'll never understand the talk about Uggla having a bad '07. The OPS differnce was .013. That's nothing.

Trade deadline thread
I think Blake has more value than Jacobs. If you have a hole on your team I think Blake can fill it. I don't think Jacobs can fill a hole.

Eric Byrnes is hilarious
They wasted $30 million on that guy... and their GM is supposed to be a genius.

base loaded up
miamibaseball is correct. We have stunk with the bases loaded. Most of the other NL teams have stunk more than we have but that doesn't mean we haven't stunk. Our .711 OPS with the bases loaded stinks when compared to the NL average over the past few years. '01 AL - .812 '01 NL - .771 '02 AL - .783 '02 NL - .727 '03 AL - .805 '03 NL - .729 '04 AL - .795 '04 NL - .719 '05 AL - .763 '05 NL - .735 '06 AL - .826 '06 NL - .769 '07 AL - .844 '07 NL - .741 '08 AL - .791 '08 NL - .664

Hanley's lazyiness at the plate and defense!
I think this is ridiculous but others agree with you. This morning Sid Rosenberg had Jason Starks on and one of the two morons (forget which.. maybe both) said Hanley is lazy.

Most underappreciated player on the team?
And lets not forget, he's shown that he's a 2nd half player, in his early career. 1st half : .256 avg., .752 .OPS 2nd half : .293 avg., .851 .OPS He has played two full seasons, '06 and '07, and in one of them, '06, he OPSed .601 in the 2nd half so I don't take it for granted that he's a 2nd half player.

Most underappreciated player on the team?
On this board, Jeremy Hermida. Yep... people forget he's only 24 and that he put up great numbers back in high school. Yeah, why couldn't he hit .296/.369/.501 last year and .340/.401/.555 in the 2nd half? If he played his entire career like he did the 2nd half of last year I would join you in the Jeremy bandwagon but unfortunately other than those 72 games he has stunk.
