New Stadium Pics
The New York Times has a good write up of the stadium. Overall, it's pretty positive. This pretty much sums it up... Now that Mr. Loria has gotten his new stadium, he is doling out big money for marquee players, talking about World Series games played with the roof open, under the stars. Through seven home games, according to ESPN, the Marlins have sold an average of more than 29,000 tickets. If the Marlins are bottom dwellers in late September, that home-run sculpture may come to seem forlorn, the new team uniforms clownish and the cost of the stadium a renewed scandal. But that’s then. For now, Miami has reason to cheer. http://www.nytimes.c...smid=tw-nytimes

New Stadium Pics
First pitch! Just beautiful. As a longtime Marlins fan, I never thought this day would come. I thought it would have been more likely to happen in St. Antonio than in Miami. http://lockerz.com/s/189922143

Reality Check Thread
I'm excited. If this is what the offseason looks like, I can't wait to see what happens right before the trade deadline next season. Nothing will happen. We're not serious. I'm excited. If this is what the offseason looks like, I can't wait to see what happens right before the trade deadline next season. Think Loria is serious now? I kid, I kid. I know I'll never live that thread down. But never before has being wrong looked so glorious. :geek

Does anyone else get the sense the Marlins aren't serious?
Pretty sure my thread is responsible for lighting the fire under Loria, et. al and is therefore responsible for Reyes, Bell and Buehrle. :jacobs

They are dead serious. So they say...

Does anyone else get the sense the Marlins aren't serious?
They offered Pujols less than $200 million. When you consider A-Rod is in the middle of a 10 year, $275 million contract that was signed in 2007, it's hard to take this offer seriously. As for Reyes, it's possible things still might work out and I hope they do, but I'm sure other teams that need him worse than we do will come up with more than $90 million over six years. I also question the timing: reports that the Marlins were interested in Pujols and Reyes coincided with the new logo and uniforms announcement. There are other teams interested in Pujols and Reyes, and yet the Marlins were the only team that seemed to tip their hand this early in the offseason. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like Loria is more fascinated with the idea of having his team associated with these big names in media reports than actually signing them.

Worst and Best Giveaways In Florida/Miami Marlins History
Best had to be the floppy hats they gave away in 1997, marking the 5th season. I remember seeing people wearing them at the World Series later that year.

What happened to the stadium forum?
Just curious... I was hoping it would stay around until at least Opening Day.

New Stadium Pics
I personally think Zack Hample is insufferable, but he recently visited Miami and stopped by the new Marlins stadium on his way to Sun Life. Check it out: http://snaggingbaseballs.mlblogs.com/2011/08/07/8511-at-sun-life-stadium/

New Logo/Uniform Update
The more I see it the more I can't stand the thought of us wearing orange and blue. Its to much like the mets. And don't forget the Florida Gators. :fit

New Logo/Uniform Update
If anyone is wondering, here is what the old Miami Marlins uniforms and hats looked like:
-
Loria on the new uniforms
If we hadn't won two World Series wearing teal I wouldn't mind. Would the New York Yankees ditch navy blue?

Loria on the new uniforms
Doesn't sound good if you're a fan of teal like I am: Q. Will the team have new uniforms? A. We’re two years away, but we started working on a new look for the uniforms, new colors, something special for the new home. Teal is a color for the ’90s. You have to be cognizant of your time. The seats will be a beautiful shade of blue. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/21/sports/baseball/21loria.html

Out of State Fans
I live in Washington, DC. You'd be surprised how many Marlins fans show up at any given Nats/Fish series. Actually, it may not be that surprising considering how terrible the Nats are.

What's the record for best start of all time?
We're probably no where close to meeting it, but does anyone know what the best start for a team all time is? 162-0?

Website Updated
off topic, but we are speculating here now. I was on CCSLC reading and they were talking about MLB09 changes. Well one of the things they noticed was Florida Marlins do not have an authentic hat on newera or mlb.com. They have the all-star cap but not the game cap. Maybe a cap change? They are eventually changing their name to the "Miami Marlins." Perhaps that's what the M is for? It could easily go on a cap, but will it happen this season?

Fan Ownership
Not to be an ass, but I spent 2 minutes reading that site and there are tons of spelling and grammar errors. If you want to be taken seriously, you might want to fix that.

Concept Miami Marlins Logos
I like how the Marlins have very classic-looking jerseys and I don't think they should change that. The black pinstripes with teal accents are the way to go, and if redesigning the Marlin is part of their plan, as long as they stick to the classic look I am cool with that. I hate to see clubs like the Blue Jays and Astros go with futuristic-looking jerseys just because they think it's hip and trendy. Just my $.02

The Media Round-Up
Cape's blog was/is a great source of information for this not only when it was going down but before then for people like myself who weren't following it every step of the way. I also liked reading his live blogging so I didn't have to sift through all the noise of the thread. Well done Cape. The blog shattered the single-day hits record by almost 3K. Blog is going to take off when we start covering the demolition of the OB and construction of the new park. While I don't expect it, anything remotely close to this guy's site for the Nationals' stadium would be awesome: http://www.jdland.com/dc/stadium.cfm The guy has been really dedicated and has been updating since they started the site selection.

Marlins Forgoing Mechanical Roof?
I'm not sure how I feel about this. I think it would go a long way in keeping fans out of the rain, but what about the oppressive summer heat? I'm not sold on this. Also, why aren't any other papers reporting it? To save costs, Miami-Dade County officials say they are considering a retractable "sail" design like the Rays proposed earlier this month. "The design of (the Rays') ballpark is intriguing to say the least, in particular the manner in which the roof will be designed and constructed," a county executive wrote in a memo to the Miami-Dade County Commission. http://www.sptimes.com/2007/12/14/State/Ma...ns_may_no.shtml CapeFish, is this accurate?

Crist meets with NFL, MLB officials to promote Florida sports
Dodgertown is a 1year stint for the Rays. They will be moving to Charlotte County in 2009 to play in the stadium off El Jobean. Where the heck is Charlotte County? Southwest Florida. South of Sarasota, North of Ft. Myers. I should know... I grew up there. :cool

Crist meets with NFL, MLB officials to promote Florida sports
It's good to know we have Crist on our side, however, where was he on the last day of the most recent legislative session? Crist meets with NFL, MLB officials to promote Florida sports BY BRENDAN FARRINGTON ASSOCIATED PRESS WRITER NEW YORK -- Florida Gov. Charlie Crist met with baseball and football executives Wednesday to promote the state's sports and was told Dodgertown will be preserved, the Marlins should stay in South Florida and the state can help the NFL promote football in Latin America. Crist also said he plans to host a dinner Feb. 26 for Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig, front office staff and players as a way of showing the league the state appreciates its presence in Florida, including spring training, minor league teams and the Marlins and Tampa Bay Devil Rays. "The relationship and the friendship between Florida and baseball is so long-standing," Crist said. "Keeping these teams in the Sunshine State, it's extremely important to me." Major League Baseball will seek a way to keep using Dodgertown, the beloved 59-year-old spring training site in Vero Beach, Fla., that the Los Angeles Dodgers plan to leave next year, said Bob DuPuy, baseball's chief operating officer. "We won't let Dodgertown go," DuPuy said. He said baseball is considering ideas for the park, or another team may move there. "Dodgertown is an important part of our history and culture. We'll try to keep it," DuPuy said. Crist and DuPuy also talked about the Marlins, who have been trying for years to get state help to build a new stadium in the Miami area. "It would be a shame to lose baseball, obviously, in South Florida," DuPuy said. "We're not going to let that happen," said Crist. "We'll do whatever we need to do." Crist also met with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, and urged him to keep holding Super Bowls in Florida. "I wanted to plea to the commissioner to have more Super Bowls - like all of them - in Florida," Crist said. Goodell said Super Bowls in Florida produce positive feedback. "Every time people go down there people have a great experience. And that's a tribute to the community and the state. That usually will lead you to more Super Bowls," he said. "The number one issue you want to balance is how do you make it a bigger and better event and Florida has always worked with us, in partnership, to do that." Florida is in the middle of a six-year period in which it will host four Super Bowls. The 2005 game was in Jacksonville and this year's was in Miami. Tampa will host in 2009 and Miami again in 2010. Goodell also said the NFL is trying to increase its presence in Latin America, and said that Florida can help. "It is a gateway, it has a significant Latin American population, as do a number of our other franchise cities. That's something that's very important to us in long term," Goodell said.
