I think you can absolutely hold out for a teams best prospect when it comes to JT. He's athletic enough where he can stay behind the plate for a while and rest some at 1B- I'm sure he can play 3B in a pinch and he's somewhat affordable as far as resigning. If a team can get him resigned, and I'd make that the nessesity on any deal- I'd push for Vladdy Jr and similar players. Potential isn't the same as projected. JT is projected to remain a great catcher in terms of CS, CERA and defense. He's got pop and can hit / steal. Theres only 4 or 5 great catchers and a dozen failed prospects every year. Shoot for Vladdy types, settle for others if they can't resign him.

Don't twist my words. Every player is different. In Yelich's case a change in environment complimented his skillset and his demeanor. In Stantons, being relied upon as the only pure power threat in an injury riddled lineup while himself injured didn't compliment his skillset. Plenty of players drown and thrive when they change teams, Jose Bautista for example. Others flounder (Hanley, Pablo Sandoval, Jose Reyes).

Because Stanton was a DH, played hurt for three months while Judge was out and he couldn't rest, and was playing in the bright lights of NYC. Stantons power plays everywhere, Yelich doesnt. His home runs are from solid contact, not pure power. Edit: Stanton also hit 38, not 30. ALSO ALSO; you cant expect someone to hit 40 HR in a half every season. AND AND AND: he batted all of 2017 with Yelich and Ozuna behind him and Gordon in front. When Stanton got hot last august with 18 HR, they were there for him *insert friends click click click sound* AND AND AND AND: He was missing Judge for half of july and august, Sanchez all of August. AND AND AND AND AND: yeah.

That's the thing, outside of the 100 or so people who want to go to every game- even the core fan base would rather watch on TV. The more I think about it, the more I believe a jointly owned channel between Fox Sports and the Marlins is the way to go for now. A Marlins Network would bring in more cash than just game broadcasts rights fees. The question is do they want to risk the overhead. If they pull their own network off, the money issue should go away. We've always done well TV wise, its the asses in seats that don't happen often enough.

TB won't, like us its too much a transient / transplant market. Sustained success like the Braves in the 90's won't bring out the fans long term either. Maybe, just maybe- a run like the 2010-2014 heat will bring them out, but it won't keep them loyal. The sooner we all realize this market sucks, and let the team just play instead of worrying about attendance figures- the better off we all will be. This team needs to ad/revenue sharing/ and TV revenue to compete. Attendence should never be relied upon like it was in the past w Delgado and Lee signing and trades.

Who says I defended it, I'm just saying you can't judge what we gave up vs. what we got because I don't believe he'd ever would have become this in Miami. What I'm saying is we traded a .290 hitter with 20hr potential, not an MVP. The ballpark arguments to me only solidify that even more. In other words, we traded a nice little player who was cost controlled. Not this monster he's become. Judge the trade on that. I was pissed that we didn't try to add SP and blow it up at the deadline or this offseason. One more run would have been nice. Adding the SP who signed late would have added 15-20MM in payroll but net more prospects when we flipped them to contenders. It would have helped our farm and showed face a bit especially if the new ownership said in March, "We're giving it until June, and if we aren't in contention were blowing it up". Theres a post somewhere where I broke down what all these SP got. I'd be interested in seeing what teams like the Blue Jays got for trading them.

NEVER! GTFOH! I can't remember who said it, either Ethan Skolnik or one of the 790 midday Hosts, but they mentioned Yelich was surly during a given interview, realized it a few days later and reached out to the hosts by DM on twitter. He pretty much apologized and mentioned how unhappy he was in this market. This was two years ago it happened and it came to light after his trade. If the timeline is right, he batted 300, then dropped in average last year. If I was miserable I'd let it affect my work. He might have filled out, but he's motivated and happy now. Good for him.

Yelich said in the past he didn't want to be in Miami and he hated it here. That was said to radio hosts on 790 and referenced in one of 5ReasonSports first podcasts. Seeing how he "put it together" in Milwaukee without a change in physical appearance, he had a change in demenor and he became a bad man. Pretty much everything anyone ever said his ceiling was- he's become. I don't believe even his batting stance has changed. He just hated it here, and the new situation is bringing out the best in him. Wish we could have gotten a motivated Yelich for the last few years, maybe we could have been the Yankees of the NL in regards to power. All things equal though, we got what we could for him... no matter what happens people will look at the player he's become, not the one we traded away (20 + HR, 70+ RBI, .300 BA)

Lets have a debate about it.... Why do you believe it was intentional. Is it simply the circumstances? I'm more likely to trust a Marlins fans opinion than anyone else on the internet with this--- too many people have hot takes.

If the first pitch of the game goes 5 feet behind him or above him.... you KNOW it was intentional. He threw a pitch while he was amped up and it got away from him. We saw that on Opening day, and we've seen it a few times from him. Those who swear it was intentional haven't been paying attention- and that includes Buster Onley and the other national reporters on twitter who are acting like they know the Marlins inside and out- while they haven't even seen em play on TV. This team is dismissed nationally unless it can be sensationalized and turned into a story.

Do you really think that was intentional? One pitch into the game? This is the same pitcher who threw first pitch BP ball to Happ on the first game and hit three players and walked two more that inning. What made that worse was Acuna walking TO the Marlins dugout, and then tossing his shin guard on the mound... all after Urena asked if he was ok. The logo was leaked, the merchandise was leaked later- like I showed. A image like the leaked logo is nice, but can be done by a capable photshop artist. The New Era hat posted by a sports reporter with the miami herald and purchased at the new era factory....was confirmation this was the logo. The seat ends were another confirmation. When that logo was "leaked" there was still immense doubt as to that being the logo.

The M marlin was leaked in October by George Richards of the Miami Herald while he was on a roadtrip covering the Florida Panthers. The New Era store in buffalo (the league supplier) let the cap slip into a factory GOOFs bin, and Samson and everyone decided to deny it until the day of the unveiling. They were right, the cap wasn't the one they'd wear. The MLB batterman would be black and orange with white rather than the Blue/Orange and White on the cap he bought. The Orange cap sold to fans at first had the blue batterman too. I think the logo is smaller as well than what we went with.

I believe its a two year process for uniform and logo changes. After the design is approved with input from MLB, they have to confirm with manufacturers and distributors and give them a chance to stop producing the old stuff and move it out. Year one: Design, testing and approval. Year two: move existing inventory, ensure merchandising can be done (remember the 2 million stitches in the 2012 rebrand for the M and the random orange-red color), and allowing the companies a chance to stock the colors we need. I see the Marlins going and using the Mariners Pacific NW Green, since its readily available for jerseys and caps- and a darker color for a modern uniform and a chance to sell more merch instead ofthrowback stuff being dug outta closets

You know, I never considered that either. From what I've ever seen, everyone seems to like the guy- and Samson played the role of the two Bobs (office space) before he ultimately left too. The few times I've interacted with Hill, be it crossing paths in a hallway or staircase- or at Spring Training.. he seems like a friendly enough person to where I felt comfortable saying "Hi" and striking up a little convo and wishing him luck. He SEEMED genuinely happy to have someone pulling for him. But after the ownershipo change, his media sessions are more company line and more scripted respronses. Chances are he's now able to be more introverted with the media and do his job rather than always interviewing for his next one. I really hope he succeeds, not only as a Marlins Fan, but as a minoritytoo. They talk about wanting to open doors to the Americas and bring baseball into the inner cities with programs like R.B.I. If he succeeds, it'll be good for the game. Lets just hope the "Bi-racial Angel" in the owners suite knows what he's doing.
