  1. I don't know much about Winters... where is he playing right now?
  2. We drafted Graham Taylor last year (2006, 10th Round) out of Miami. He's a big guy at 6'4" / 210 and I am anixous to see what happens with his good start. where Miami???UM?? i don't remember that name associated with the Hurricanes Yep. Miami of Ohio. Sorry, forgot to clarify. His stats are VERY interesting. I always look at HR/9 and K/BB ratio to judge the early development of an arm, and his both are outstanding and always have been. Last year he allowed .27 HR/9 and .55 BB/9 at Jamestown in 13 starts. Plus his main category stats were impressive (2.47 ERA and 0.96 WHIP at Jamestown). I know it's Jamestown, but even in college his highest season ERA was 3.83 as a freshman at Miami-Ohio. He continues to improve as his Junior/Senior year combined ERA was 2.89. I'm excited for him.

  4. Man, Graham Taylor really brought it back very strong after his last tough outing, and if you can believe this, the guy has only walked 1 in 25 innings, while striking out 24.
  5. He was drafted at number 636 in the 2005 draft (our infamous pitcher draft), out of Virgina Weslyean College. He started his career in Jupiter last year but was sent back to Greensboro shortly thereafter after only hitting .246 at Jupiter. He did worse at Greensboro, but after a successful start at Greensboro this year, he was sent back up to Jupiter, where he has struggled, but is starting to pick it up. There seems to be a slight interest in this guy, he might never amount too much, but that's been said about a lot of people who have experienced success.
  6. Colin Roberson was promoted from Greensboro to Jupiter earlier this week after going 3 for 9 with 2 homers at Greensboro. This guy has a lot of potential, but a very high strike out rate. 7 K's in 13 AB's so far this season.
  7. I can't wait any longer... Colin Roberson. Done.
  8. Steve Barry talks about who should be our closer in the long run... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/index?lpos=g...;lid=gn_MLB_MLB Go here, and should see a big picture of Tank under the fantasy heading.
  9. All I'm going to say on that play is this: If you're an outfielder trucking in, you're not looking at anything other than the ball. With the roof, the ball's tough to pick up, once Borchard got into the area, his head never came off the ball. If you watch the replay, Uggla clearly takes the ball out of Borchard's glove. If Borchard were to peel off there and the ball drops behind Uggla (because, let's be honest, he had to use all 5'5'' of him just to reach up for that one) it's all Borchard's fault. Finally, if Borchard's in position, it's only rational for him to assume that the infielders knowing the outfield priority would peel off, Uggla's presence alone doesn't mean Borchard knows he's going to catch it, or should be expected to catch it. Still, its your job as an outfielder, no matter how green you may be, to notice a guy frantically waving and calling you off. Not to turn this into a pissing contest, but have you ever played baseball? Catching a flyball is hardly as easy as it looks, and the process done is nothing like you'd expect. You run to the spot and then find the ball again. Once you're in the "spot" you're doing nothing but looking skyward. There's no recognition of what's going on around you at that point, it isn't a half and half looking around. It's no coincidence that so many collisions happen on 'tweener fly-balls like that. There is just an inexcusable lack of communication. He's right. Even though he sounds like a jerk, he is right. I always had so much respect for my OF's when I played, because I knew I couldn't do it.
  10. Anyone have any info on when Hermida is returning? With Alejandro out, and possibly DL worthy, he really needs to get over his bruise. Even then, if he doesn't produce what do you think happens post ASB?
  11. I'm in full agreement. I think the attendance will get better with a new park, but after 15 years of the franchise, I can't see the attendance ever growing past below average, in So Fla. Please note, I am not trashing anyone on these boards that lives in SoFla, because I have seen your support, here and at the games. But, for whatever the reason, South Florida doesn't care about the Marlins.
  12. Olsen is good. He probably belongs in the mid to lower half of a rotation, but you can't deny that he is good. I know people always talk about his slider, but that pitch might be the best pitch in the rotation. He doesn't have great velocity, but he touches 90 with no problem. I've heard hitters say that his fastball (when on) can be thrown anywhere and make you hesitate. Is he a pompous ass? Yes. Is he good? Yes. I like Scotty. I like his fire. I don't know when competitveness became such a negative attribute.
  13. Yeah, we are glad you are here. I'm not the new guy anymore. I hate UF... because I am a tear...Buckeye... tear.
  14. Yeah, I will add ER instead of ERA in the most recent outing, but I'll keep the season ERA. Yeah Sinkbeil did get rocked yesterday, but it was against some fantastic hitters. Gaby had a fantastic outing as well as Volstad. Graham continues to absolutely attack the plate.
  15. Since we have so many potentially successful arms in our organization, I just wanted to devote a thread to keeping an eye on their seasons, stats, and scouting reports. I've just compiled stuff for the top young starters, not any of the bullpen guys. I will update this post daily, and you can feel free to comment on any pitcher's progress or if you know anything. May 30th - June 5th Updates: A lot has happened since the last update. Thompson and Taylor were on hot streaks and both imploded last week, but I think they are both pitching tonight, so maybe they can bounce back. The good news is some of the top prospects who had been perfoming badly pulled together some good starts. Gaby went 6 allowing 1, while Volstad went 6 allowing 2. Tucker continues to improve and pitch very well as of late. Vandy's pitching with the big club tonight in the double header, so that will erase his MILB start, but he has been pitching very well for most of his outings since he has been in AA. Check the lines below... Gaby Hernandez, AA; 2-6, 58.0 IP, 4.81 ERA, 52 K's, 24 BB, .259 BAA most recent outing: ND, 6.0 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 3 BB, 6 K's -- June 4th Rick Vanden Hurk, AA; 2-1, 36 IP, 3.50 ERA, 44 K's, 12 BB, .208 most recent outing: ND, 5.2 IP, 2 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 8 K's -- May 31st Chris Volstad, High A; 4-5, 61 IP, 5.16 ERA, 44 K's, 18 BB, .302 BAA most recent outing: W, 6.0 IP, 2 ER, 6 H, 2 BB, 3 K -- June 1st Brett Sinkbeil, High A; 1-2, 13.1 IP, 5.40 ERA, 9 K's, 4 BB, .281 BAA most recent outing: ND, 5.0 IP, 4 ER (6 R), 11 H, 0 BB, 1 K's -- May 31st Aaron Thompson, High A; 2-3, 58.2 IP, 3.22 ERA, 47 K's, 17 BB, .259 BAA most recent outing: L, 4.2 IP, 4 ER (8 R), 9 H, 2 BB, 5 K's -- May 30th Ryan Tucker, High A; 3-3, 52.0 IP, 4.50 ERA, 35 K's, 22 BB, .265 BAA most recent outing: L, 7.0 IP, 1 ER (2 R), 6 H, 0 BB, 5 K's -- June 4th Paul Mildren, AAA; 3-4, 48.1 IP, 4.47 ERA, 32 K's, 24 BB, .225 BAA most recent outing: ND, 6 IP, 3 ER, 4 H, 4 BB, 4 K's -- May 30th Jesus Delgado, AA; 4-3, 46 IP, 3.72 ERA, 44 K's, 27 BB, .250 BAA most recent outing: L, 4.2 IP, 4 ER, 7 H, 2 BB, 1 K's -- June 2nd Graham Taylor, A; 6-1, 70 IP, 2.06 ERA, 54 K's, 5 BB, .190 BAA most recent outing: ND, 3 IP, 5 ER, 8 H, 0 BB, 1 K -- May 30th Sean West, A; ---- most recent outing: ----
  16. I went to college in Asheville. My favorite town I have ever been too. I want to move back soon. McCormick Field (where the Tourists play) is wonderful. It's so historic. Babe Ruth used to hit homers there. College students used to be able to get in for $4. Man, I miss it. I'm moving back to Asheville.
  17. sign me up...
  18. We also had Yusmeiro Petit. Thank God. I still believe he could be doing more damage than Julio right now.
  19. I like our chances this weekend. Hanley will be back. Tank is back. Julio isn't closing (although still pitching). The matchups look really good for us... Willis vs. Redman Olsen vs. Davies Sanchez vs. Hudson I see 2 out of 3, as I think we will lose Sunday. Sanchez velocity has come down a little bit from last year, and Tim Hudson looks back to his old form, after all his injury pitching in the past two seasons.
  20. The amount of Borch hate on this board never ceases to amaze. If he has back to back solid games, all it takes to reinvigorate the Borch hate is one subpar performance. I always love how fans will bash a player based on one games performance. Try and take a look at the big picture once in a while. The amount of unecessary Borch hate on this board, is directly related to the amount of unnecessary Borch love on this board. People stick up for this guy too much. I just don't think he's just good enough. I'd rather see guys like John Gall up here in his spot. I guess I resent the support of Joe Borchard more than I resent Joe Borchard (unless he has a performance like tonight... then I hate him more). Oh, and I don't think you ever want to look at the big picture when it comes to Joe Borchard if you are speaking on his behalf. (.209/.283/.365)
  21. 3 ER in 5 Innings isn't a crappy start. Especially against a lineup like the Phils. Maybe for our #2 guy it is below average, but in no way is it crappy.
  22. I think you have to look at this from a relative standpoint. We all know what Cabs can do... is he hitting out of his mind right now? Maybe. Maybe not. But, a lot of us were unsure on Jake, and the way he has been hitting lefties and driving balls to the opposite field, as well as a couple of beautiful pick ups at 1st. Jake gets my vote, because I halfway expected Cabs to be hitting .700 right now. Cabrera is definitely the better player, but relatively speaking, Jake had the better week.
  23. Uggla has struggled, Julio's contract is apparently being picked up by whoever we are playing, Nolasco hasn't looked good since the first couple games of Spring, and Borchard is an absolute mess (which he walked twice tonight, so I'll take that.) With Tank, Johnson, and Hermida gone... we have to be feeling pretty incredible about our start. Miguel Cabrera looks like he is in BP, everytime he steps to the plate. Hanley is the Hanley we fell in love with last year... only stronger. Jacobs learned to hit to the opposite field, and already has 3 hits to the oppo this year. This is huge for him. Hammer is hitting the ball very hard. You know who else is hitting well? Effing, Miguel Olivio, and some kid whose name sounds like a magic trick out in CF. Dontrelle has been dominate in 10 of his 12 innings Olsen looked crazy good for his first 5 innings and he has just as many or more hits than Borch or Uggla. Anibal Sanchez is so freaking crafty on the mound. Sergio Mitre far exceeded his very low expectation from us. Not to mention Messenger, Owens, Gardner, and Lindstrom and Pinto have allowed ZERO runs in 8.2 Innings. I know it's only 5 games. But for all the complaining we do, there is a lot more to be really ecstatic about.
  24. Man... Howard is busting so far this year.
