If we trade Infante
Rename this thread, please. Writing 'Infante Trade' implies that he's already been traded. Agreed. We've been having a lot of ambiguous thread titles lately too. I hate that. Renamed the thread. Didn't mean to mislead, though personally I do deal Omar's as good as gone, regardless.

If we trade Infante
Per the Herald (http://www.miamiherald.com/2011/07/26/2332369_p2/miami-dolphins-pursue-veteran.html), the Fish would lsiten to trade offers for Infante. Not a surprise, despite the FO's contention the deadline will be quiet, considering his impending Free Agency and how he doesn't fit into our long-term plans. My question to you is, assuming we do trade him, what do we do about our IF? I'm assuming Boni would move to 2B, leaving 3B empty. Unless we get a 3B in return (doubtful because I think we go young pitching in any deals we make this year), do we roll with a tandem of Dobbs and Helms like we did earlier in the season? Can you all think of any other options, outside of another trade or FA (ie, Cantu), that would work? I guess we could try Castillo again, who seems to be tearing up the PCL w/ a 1.07 OPS. Do we have another option for 2B if we keep Boni at 3B? Seems to me Jack likes him at the hot Corner. Personally, my outside-of-the-box suggestion would be to promote Dominguez. The season's lost, and even though he's still not hitting well in the minors, I'd rather give him a headstart for next year against MLB pitching while we'd have time to find a replacement in the offseason if it looks like he's still not ready. I don't want a repeat of this year where we put all of our chickens in one basket only to run out of of time in ST to sign someone else when Matt failed to take the job he was served on a platter. It would start the clock on Arbitration, though, so with many expected future Options down to the minors, maybe it's best to delay that as much as possible.

7/22 Postgame
The thing is realistically aside from healthy players it won't be much different, but I suppose healthy players makes a difference. I'm normally optimistic but I think this team will be in a funk for years, until we build up the farm system again. Yet I still throw money at this team I figure since the logo and colors are going to change might as well bid on some teal hats. http://cgi.ebay.com/...T#ht_500wt_1129 Be careful; I bought a 7 3/8 a couple years back on ebay and while the size tag says it's a 7 3/8, it's definitely NOT. Either a chinese knockoff or it was "second" quality overstock because of the improper sizing.

Who does Wes Helms think he is?
Say what you will about Uncle Wes' career and veteran leadership, but I don't disagree with anything he said. Despite Hanley's immense talents, he's still yet to embrace the leadership role despite the Marlins being "his" team.

Coghlan/Cameron/Petersen
The way I understood it, the Marlins optioned him down to New Orleans to work on his hitting in a lower pressure environment and he only told them about the injury after that. I believe he did that so we would be paid his MLB salary while on the MLB Disabled List as opposed to playing or going on the Disabled List in the minors (in which case he would be making his Minor League salary). Personally, I take the Cameron trade as more of an indictment in the lack of veteran leadership on the team (and Trader Jack's experience w/ Cameron in Cincy) as opposed to an indication in the eam's unhappiness w/ CC. I still think the FO likes CC a lot, as he fits their mold: young, cheap, flexible and talented. He's done everything they asked of him (learn LF his rookie season after being primarily an IF his whole career, takeover as CF in spacious Sun Life stadium), and he's still only 26 compared to 38. I do not think, however, CC deals well with pressure and is prone to mental funks. I'd like to see him still get some games at New Orleans under his belt once he's 100% and kept 6 or 7 in the order back w/ the big club.

Target Stores- Player Photos
Found a catalogue of the available canvas prints. Looks like we have a night shot of Sun Life, the logo on black pinstripe background, Big Mike, Hanley, JJ and Dan Uggla (!?!). http://www.spimages.com/productinfo/2011%20Sports%20Licensing%20V2.pdf

Target Stores- Player Photos
Hi, I was hoping some of my South Florida peeps could help me out with something. Many of the Targets up here in Central Florida, in the framed art/decor section, have a bunch of canvas photos of Rays players and the Rays logo. They’re really nice, as they are good quality photos printed on canvas and stretched on a frame, with the players’ name. The logo is just a nice large logo in the center of a solid color background. They’re roughly 8X10, maybe 16X20 at most. I was wondering if the Targets in Marlins territory have the same product, only with the Marlins logo and players. The reason why I ask is the stores up here recently marked down these canvas prints on clearance on some end caps, and I’d like to get some of the Marlins if they are available. They’d look really nice in my Marlins room/den. These don’t appear to be on the Target site at all, so they must be in-store, only. I’ve generally found the regional merchandise tends to mirror itself; for example, most of the Rays stuff up here has an equivalent in Marlins down there. If you could tell me which store you found them in (if at all) and what players they had, I’d appreciate it. Thanks for your help!

Eduardo Perez new hitting coach
I was thinking about this more today, and I thinkthis was more of a message up Edwin than an indicator of Marlee's abilities. Esp when I just saw the A's fired their manager today after they lost 9 in a row. If we lose tonight, esp of it's another 1 run loss, Edwin better update his resume. I wonder if Esp's number is on speed dial, if you know what I mean.

Here we go again.

Eduardo Perez new hitting coach
From what you guys say it doesn't sound like he's very qualified. Looks like Tony got his son a job...if I worked within an organization and saw that kind of nepotism...it wouldn't sit right with me. I hate that sh*t, reminds me of working in the back front of house in a restaurant. FIFY; in my experience, the nepotism wasn't w/ the chef and cooks, it was with the GM, servers and hostesses. Anyhoo, true his career stats weren't impressive, yet he still had a 13 year career in the Bigs. If you're not a good baseball player, it doesn't matter who your father is, you're not going to spend longer than a coffee cup in MLB. Plenty of great managers and coaches had poor playing careers but have what is needed to be a coach and/or manager- Tommy Lassorda and Tony LaRussa come to mind. The jury is out if Eduardo has that "something special," and we have right to be cautious as he's largely unproven in that regard, but let's give the guy a chance before we call him unqualified. He comes off as very knowledgeable, and there is familiarity in the organization beyond the obvious Tony Perez connection; I'm fairly certain he was a Spring Training invite in 2001 or 2002.

6/7 Post Game
The offense should be ashamed of themselves for spoiling Hand's debut.

5/10 post game
That 96 MPH down the middle to sit Ryan Howard the f down was magical. Kudos to Hanley for hustling on that infield hit.

Hensley to DL, Hopper called up
TheDragon = Antonio Alfonseca Per John Baker, the team's nickname for Hopper is the Dragon. "He loves it when you call him that," according to Bake, though I suspect he might have been sarcastic about that. Personally, I called Alfonseca "Fingers" for obvious reasons.

Hensley to DL, Hopper called up
I guess that explains why he only pitched a 1/3 of an inning. Glad to see The Dragon back on the big club where he belongs.

ESPN 30 for 30 Steve Bartman:Catching Hell
Interesting, the reviews coming out of Tribecca indicate this was a well-done and researched documentary. Apparantly the filmmaker was able to obtain some alternate angle footage shot from the crowd and interviewed some of the security staff that ushered him out. However, it also seems that there's much (if not more) focus on Buckner and the Sox than the 2003 NLCS. Confirmed airing in Fall, probably to coincide w/ the Playoffs.

4/25 POST GAME!
I think I want to vote for Bonifacio; who knew that he could draw a walk on that 3-2 pitch? Maybe Edwin just told him not to swing at anything. I almost went there myself, especially consiering his history w/ 3-2 counts. Still went w/ Cogs, though, cause subtract his 2 runs and we still might have lost despite the 9th inning heroics.

4/22 Post Game
A question for all you experts. JJ, who has had arm surgery, goes for a no hitter into the eighth against Atlanta. Freeman doubles with one out in the eighth and Edwin immediately pulls JJ after 109 pitches. Anibal, who has had should surgery, goes for a no hitter into the ninth against Atlanta. Fowler doubles on Anibal's 117 pitch and Edwin leaves him in to finish the game. Why the difference in the handling extended pitch counts for the two pitchers? I know where you're going with this. :thumbdown The difference, and I say this w/ all the respect to Anibal, is JJ is our ace and and has 35 mill/3 years left on his contract. Anibal doesn't.

4/22 Post Game
I have to say, something does seem different about this team compared to previous seasons. It is still early, of course, but they're scrapping and not giving up. Everyone seems to be contributing and picking up the slack when someone falls behind (or gets injured). It cannot be emphasized enough the impact winning a bunch of games early will have on a young team. Go Fish!

ESPN 30 for 30 Steve Bartman:Catching Hell
Or too depressed to do anything. I think I read somewhere that a radio station in chicago bought the bartman ball and boiled it then blew it up? Maybe hearsay, dunno, anyone know anything about it? if it's true gotta love baseball and its church of superstition. They indeed blew it up at Harry Carry's restaurant. Year after, I believe.

The Next Generation...
...of Marlins fans is here! We were having dinner at a sports bar last night to watch the Fish. Logan came to bat, and since my 6 year old's name is also Logan, I said, "Logan, do you know the name of that Marlins player?" He did not hesitate to say, "Logan Morrison!" Mind you, the name graphic was not on the screen. Pretty awesome.
