Winning Thoughts, 7/17
The corners for both teams were having trouble spotting fly balls pretty much all night. So, your hate is unjustified. Hermida always has trouble spotting fly balls. He sucks in the field. Everything I do is justified.

Billy the Marlin named after Billy Martin?

ya but regardless of whether those balls go out, its not helping him field or find the ball

RVH pitched well and should stay up. Hanley is The Man. Alfredo continues to hit and show why he should be moved up while Uggla continues to show why he should be moved down. Hermida looks silly in the field again. Why is Eric Reed still with the team? Couldn't we use some additional scrub out of the bullpen for long relief, to replace Wes?

well that's exactly what i'm talking about. because he has a silly name, is tiny, from mexico, and an untouted guy who went to st. petersburg college or whatever. i'm not saying i'll be really excited if he is our starting center fielder on opening day 2008 but to say you know what type of player he is has nothing to do with his performance.

i mean on this board, the intelligent marlins fans, rich and tommy are talking nonsense most of the time, which i miss anyway when i attend the games with the other 29 of us

in the long term, yes. i just feel that amezaga doesn't get the credit he deserves

why do people think center field is a bigger problem than right field? since they have both been playing every day, alfredo >>> hermida, in the field and at the plate anyone who watches the games can plainly see this I was all ready to disprove this, but holy sh*t, Amezaga is playing out of his mind right now. .922 OPS in July. Of course, Hermida's got a 1.080 OPS in the same month. So, I guess Hermida's been better lately. Can't complain about either. Still, it's completely ridiculous to suggest that CF isn't a bigger long term issue than RF. Amezaga's been great lately, but he's not this good of a player. He's on a really hot streak, for sure. But he's not the long term answer. i wasn't talking about the long term. i was speaking about this season. obviously we all hope hermida steadily improves and will be the permanent answer in right. but just because amezaga is tiny and wasn't a 1st round pick, whenever he's going good, it must be a fluke or he's gonna come down. hermida is definitely hitting the crap out of the ball right now, but i still for the time being have no faith whatsoever in his fielding and cringe whenever the ball is hit to him in fear of another little league play. amezaga has been outstanding recently, and in terms of years to come, he might just be a stopgap for this season. but he should definitely play nearly everyday until he proves so.

if fredi watched tonight's game and has any brain cells at all (which i doubt), he needs to move uggla down tomorrow

My Lineup
you have got to be joking with the way alfredo has played over the last month and a half or so. carroll???? alfredo absolutely deserves to be the everyday starting centerfielder and has proven that he should hit higher in the order. outside of the top contributors all season (hanley, uggla, miggy, hammer) amezaga has been as solid and productive as anyone else. can the man get some respect?!?!?!?!

Trade Idea with Royals
good trade but i want more, olivo is joe mauer in kansas city

Scott Olsen gets a two game sit down
fredi needs to do his best joe girardi impersonation and throw scotty up against the wall. why's scotty o always picking fights with guys that would kick his ass. he's basically pitched a little better than garbage and really needs some composure and teamwork training. and he could also cut the horrible acting he does as the professor and in commercials.

A team needs to look at whats best in particular situations. If you lead off with hanley, you don;t need a guy to just come behind him an walk. Hermida has a great eye and on many teams may be a useful #2. However he's been hitting sub .250 for most of the year, and if hanley gets on and steals second, all a walk does is set up a double play. Granted if the Boy hits a homerun you get two runs in, but hermida is not a speedster (evne though he isnt slow) either that is most likely going to score from first on a double. As of right now I would not be opposed to putting amezaga in that spot, b/c he can make contact to move hanley over to third if hes on second, but he also has a good enough eye to draw walks when needed. Furthermore, amezaga also can steal bases and has the speed to score on a double hit by cabrera or someone after him. If Hermida walks with Hanley on base, that puts 2 guys on for Miguel, Hammer, Jake with no outs. You'd better believe one of those 3 guys is gonna be able to get at least one of those runs in with no outs. i wouldn't count on it... as bad as this team struggles with RISP. that's the point though. i don't disagree with you that the team struggles with BA w/ RISP. but if those players aren't gonna knock guys in, this team is not going to be successful regardless of the lineup. the order as it is now constructed does not maximize the team's potential for scoring runs with uggla 2nd. either alfredo or hermida needs to slide into that spot and see some meatballs. then let's see how much better he gets.

i'd prolly try a hanley fredo cabs jake hammer uggla herms olivo/treanor or flip hanram and fredo around see what happens. i just personally dont like hanley hitting before cabs much because it really filters his steal attempts. Doesn't attempt as often or cabs fouls off balls low and off the plate forcing hanley to go back to first. just my 2 cents. I like that lineup YES

Dan Uggla
but who will perform as the leadoff man if it is not hanley
-
Dan Uggla
i still like hanley's ability at the leadoff spot hermida and alfredo right away isn't so great is there any chance at all fredi may ever try to change things up a bit with the order. this team has a very solid offense as it is but switching a few people around here and there could make it a well oiled machine. even as a hermida basher, i'm sure he'd have much greater success if he hit in front miguelito.

Dan Uggla
uggla needs protection but he's just simply not a 2 hitter. although it seems like he's walked more in the last couple of days than he has all year, he's a slugger who belongs in the middle of the order. his production has been very very good but he has way too many at bats in which he fails to put the ball in play. if the lineup and offense overall get better who cares (besides daniel) if uggla's numbers go down a little bit not being in front of miggy. maybe 5th between jacobs and willingham would be an improvement. and hit alfredo 2nd. hanley alfredo miggy jake uggla hammer hermida TREANOR

I'd like to see this: Alfredo Hermida Hanley Cabrera Uggla Willingham Hammer Olivo That sounds like a pretty strong lineup, and I"m one of the few people that prefers Hanley hitting 3rd. We just need to tell him to do the same thing he's doing at leadoff, and not try too hard. Take your pitches, wait for the hanging slider or curveball. Steal some bags. is jacobs 6th or 7th? i wouldn't mind seeing something like that although i like hanley 1st. we need a change.
