Reggie Sanders

Featured Replies

Just activated from the 60 day DL. Royals are reportedly aggressively shopping him around and are willing to pick up most of the $2 million of his remaining 2 year, $10 million contract. If they can't find him a home, he might just be granted his outright release.

Still has some pretty decent power and speed, especially for a 99 year old. Worth a look?

Note: They also optioned Joey Gathright to AAA.

Please tell me your not serious when you say CF! Reggies Sanders should not be allowed anywhere near any CF.

why do people think center field is a bigger problem than right field?

since they have both been playing every day, alfredo >>> hermida, in the field and at the plate

anyone who watches the games can plainly see this

Isn' Hermida hitting the crap out of the ball right now?

Gathright might be going down because he isnt drawing any walks)2 in his last 17 games). And on top of that, his bat is coming back down to earth. His OBP has become completely dependent on his batting average as of late(which isnt good), has been caught almost as many times as he has been successful when trying swipe a base, and still...despite his blazing speed...seems completely incapable of getting XBH(4 in 73 at bats).

A singles hitter who is roughly 50/50 on the basepaths who isnt drawing walks isnt going to stick in the show for too long.

Gathright is hitting .315 with a .390 OBP.

What part of that isn't good?

Overall. Both have been dropping for a while now though. Gathrights OBP for July for example is under .300.

He has been falling back in line with how most would expect him to perform as opposed to how he was playing when first called up.

I was all ready to disprove this, but holy sh*t, Amezaga is playing out of his mind right now. .922 OPS in July.

Of course, Hermida's got a 1.080 OPS in the same month. So, I guess Hermida's been better lately. Can't complain about either.

Still, it's completely ridiculous to suggest that CF isn't a bigger long term issue than RF. Amezaga's been great lately, but he's not this good of a player. He's on a really hot streak, for sure. But he's not the long term answer.

I'm still trying to figure this out. Why is he a bad option in CF? He's got a ZR around .900 and a RF of 2.84.

No interesting in the 1000 year old Sanders

Gathright for cheap wouldnt be a horrible option but personally I still think there are better options out there. Right now we really need a catcher and to DFA Olivo's asre off of this team.

Sanders will more than likely be on a playoff team's roster.

I don't know why any non-playoff team would want him to trade for him (aka give something up) as a starter or a bench player for less than half a season. Doesn't make much sense. The guy is nearing 40.

Well he hasn't played the position consistently in nearly 10 years. So yeah, I think that has a lot to do with it.

I think Sanders would be a clear upgrade over Joe Borchard and Todd Linden on our bench...especially Borchard. If we aren't giving anything up of value and not paying him, I'm 100% behind this move.

i wasn't talking about the long term. i was speaking about this season. obviously we all hope hermida steadily improves and will be the permanent answer in right. but just because amezaga is tiny and wasn't a 1st round pick, whenever he's going good, it must be a fluke or he's gonna come down. hermida is definitely hitting the crap out of the ball right now, but i still for the time being have no faith whatsoever in his fielding and cringe whenever the ball is hit to him in fear of another little league play. amezaga has been outstanding recently, and in terms of years to come, he might just be a stopgap for this season. but he should definitely play nearly everyday until he proves so.

It will be a lot easier to upgrade from Amezaga's performance than Hermida's.
