Georgia 'under attack' as Russian tanks roll in
Russia needs to get over the Kosovo thing, much like what is happing in South Osietta, it is really none of their business. I kind of side with Serbia on the Kosovo thing, I think declaring independence was reckless and the fact that the United States jumped so fast to recognize equally so. Serbia has a competent leader, who while being pro west has went out of his way to maintain balanced relations with everyone. Serbia can fight their own battles. That pro-West anti-Kosovo government was eventually given a no-confidence vote, and Vojislav Kostunica lost his post as Prime Minister. His co-leader, Boris Tadic, formed a new coalition and won a landslide victory in May snap elections. While still anti-Kosovo independence, he's hinted at a moderated stance if the EU pushes them to give up Kosovo in exchange for membership.

Climate alarmists' last gasp
Please explain why the polar ice caps are disappearing a LOT faster than scientists have expected, and how it's just a myth perpetrated by the massive Global Warming Conspiracy. Only the north polar ice cap, and note last summer that Russia did a LOT of rooting around in the Arctic, "exploring for oil". Breaking up the ice = more surface for melting = more melting. The south polar ice cap, in reality, has been expanding year-by-year for a couple decades at least.

Our only hope really is that Garry Kasparov leads a revolution in Russia.

Georgia 'under attack' as Russian tanks roll in
The current claim is that Georgian territory is now being invaded by the Russians, and Georgian troops are preparing to defend their capital, Tbilisi. That the Russians expanded their invasion even after all Georgian troops left South Ossetia.

Climate alarmists' last gasp
http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/20...1/climatechange We need to get prepared for four degrees of global warming, Bob Watson told the Guardian last week. At first sight this looks like wise counsel from the climate science adviser to Defra. But the idea that we could adapt to a 4C rise is absurd and dangerous. Global warming on this scale would be a catastrophe that would mean, in the immortal words that Chief Seattle probably never spoke, "the end of living and the beginning of survival" for humankind. Or perhaps the beginning of our extinction. The collapse of the polar ice caps would become inevitable, bringing long-term sea level rises of 70-80 metres. All the world's coastal plains would be lost, complete with ports, cities, transport and industrial infrastructure, and much of the world's most productive farmland. The world's geography would be transformed much as it was at the end of the last ice age, when sea levels rose by about 120 metres to create the Channel, the North Sea and Cardigan Bay out of dry land. Weather would become extreme and unpredictable, with more frequent and severe droughts, floods and hurricanes. The Earth's carrying capacity would be hugely reduced. Billions would undoubtedly die. Watson's call was supported by the government's former chief scientific adviser, Sir David King, who warned that "if we get to a four-degree rise it is quite possible that we would begin to see a runaway increase". This is a remarkable understatement. The climate system is already experiencing significant feedbacks, notably the summer melting of the Arctic sea ice. The more the ice melts, the more sunshine is absorbed by the sea, and the more the Arctic warms. And as the Arctic warms, the release of billions of tonnes of methane – a greenhouse gas 70 times stronger than carbon dioxide over 20 years – captured under melting permafrost is already under way. To see how far this process could go, look 55.5m years to the Palaeocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum, when a global temperature increase of 6C coincided with the release of about 5,000 gigatonnes of carbon into the atmosphere, both as CO2 and as methane from bogs and seabed sediments. Lush subtropical forests grew in polar regions, and sea levels rose to 100m higher than today. It appears that an initial warming pulse triggered other warming processes. Many scientists warn that this historical event may be analogous to the present: the warming caused by human emissions could propel us towards a similar hothouse Earth. But what are we to do? All our policies to date to tackle global warming have been miserable failures. The Kyoto protocol has created a vast carbon market but done little to reduce emissions. The main effect of the EU's emissions trading scheme has been to transfer about €30bn or more from consumers to Europe's biggest polluters, the power companies. The EU and US foray into biofuels has, at huge cost, increased greenhouse gas emissions and created a world food crisis, causing starvation in many poor countries. So are all our efforts doomed to failure? Yes, so long as our governments remain craven to special interests, whether carbon traders or fossil fuel companies. The carbon market is a valuable tool, but must be subordinate to climatic imperatives. The truth is that to prevent runaway greenhouse warming, we will have to leave most of the world's fossil fuels in the ground, especially carbon-heavy coal, oil shales and tar sands. The fossil fuel and power companies must be faced down. Global problems need global solutions, and we also need an effective replacement for the failed Kyoto protocol. The entire Kyoto system of national allocations is obsolete because of the huge volumes of energy embodied in products traded across national boundaries. It also presents a major obstacle to any new agreement – as demonstrated by the 2008 G8 meeting in Japan that degenerated into a squabble over national emission rights. The answer? Scrap national allocations and place a single global cap on greenhouse gas emissions, applied "upstream" – for instance, at the oil refinery, coal-washing station and cement factory. Sell permits up to that cap in a global auction, and use the proceeds to finance solutions to climate change – accelerating the use of renewable energy, raising energy efficiency, protecting forests, promoting climate-friendly farming, and researching geoengineering technologies. And commit hundreds of billions of dollars per year to finance adaptation to climate change, especially in poor countries. Such a package of measures would allow us to achieve zero net greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, and long-term stabilisation at 350 parts per million of CO2 equivalent. This avoids the economic pain that a cap-and-trade system alone would cause, and targets assistance at the poor, who are least to blame and most need help. The permit auction would raise about $1 trillion per year, enough to finance a spread of solutions. At a quarter of the world's annual oil spending, it is a price well worth paying. The comments made in response to the article are much smarter than this guy's claims in the face of already declining temperatures. Another note: About that PE Thermal Maximum... how do we know the CO2 caused the temperature maximum, and not the other way around?

Celebrity Deaths
This isn't terribly surprising. Hayes had a stroke a few years ago. Still, RIP. This stretch of the year seems to suck more and more.

Watchmen
I'm pretty sure that Alan Moore doesn't like films, period. It looks like it will be better than V for Vendetta, which was a quality film (IMO). The reason he hates film is because, at least in his eyes, they utterly butchered the film version of V for Vendetta. And judging from what I've seen, I don't see his opinion as unreasonable.

Watchmen
After V for Vendetta, Alan Moore wants nothing to do with this movie. He even went so far as to sign his royalties over to Dave Gibbons. He claims he won't even watch it.

Georgia 'under attack' as Russian tanks roll in
I've been listening to President Saakashvili on TV and he sounds like someone I would like. However, it might all be phony rhetoric because he wants Georgia to join NATO. Saakashvili is American-educated, which is a large part of why he has aligned Georgia to the West.

Edwards admits to having affair
I never knew Edwards liked men. Purely a rumor. While it is certainly despicable (though Elizabeth claims she knew of the affair...she probably doesn't know about the paternity, or the claims that he's promised to marry her one day), remember that neither major party has the market cornered on morality.

Bin Laden's Driver Gets 5 1/2 Yrs in Prison
Well, according to the article and a radio report I heard, his sentence has almost already been served (given credit for the 5 years he has been held at Gitmo), and he will be eligible for parole in about 6 months. This whole trial process has been a sham, thanks to the administration's insistence that suspects be held in a legal netherworld since 2002. If we could convict the perpetrators of the first WTC bombing in a regular court, why couldn't they do the same with these guys? I would also like to know why you would put the least threatening terror suspect on trial first, a guy who had very little importance in Al Qaeda. Meanwhile, KSM, Ramzi Binalshibh, and Abu Zubaydah are still awaiting trial (and are the biggest Al Qaeda leaders in custody). Some "legal netherworld". He'll be out in six months because they counted his time in Gitmo. Anybody who is tried won't be spending long in prison unless there is proof they directly killed somebody (which I doubt will happen in any cases). And as for "why isn't a regular court good enough for them" argument... well, it didn't deter them from a second attack, now, did it?

As if Florida needed any more bad news...
I wish I could personally lobotimize anybody that voted in favor of Amendment 1. Many of the job losses are the direct result of budget cuts in connection with Amendment 1.

Water found on Mars
Maybe Sampson can bid for a stadium up there? hahaha i bet you thered be a lawsuit there to I'm sure J'onn J'onzz is just waiting to file it. :mischief They also found small amounts of perchlorate in some of the soil samples, a material that hadn't been detected on Mars before. They're not sure yet if it was there when Phoenix landed, or was the result of contamination from Phoenix (it's a solid fuel component on Earth; think aluminum perchlorate). If it's a Martian component, it could be counter-indicative of life.

I am sooo screwed
You can get someone else to piss for you ahead of time and then sneak it into the bathroom with you. I know they sell belt-like straps with pouches that go around your waist, they're impossible to detect with clothes on, and it also keeps the pee warm since it adjusts to your body temperature. Just make sure you don't get a girl's urine. They also use a pregnancy test on "male" samples. :mischief

Hey guys. Sorry for the delay, very untimely request for help right as the game was beginning. Just got back from the Rays game too. Hopefully some of the mojo rubs off. :mischief How was it, Merc? Hair-pulling until the bottom 9th. I noted when I got home that Edward Mujica should rename himself Edward BOHICA. :mischief
