Good Fish Article
Marlins Getting Most Bang for Their Buck from a couple weeks back Its interesting that Washington is writing an article about attendance, when from what I have seen this year & last, despite a new ballpark, most Washingtonians are also ignoring the Nationals, or is that the Natonals ? Yeah, it's kinda funny, but they have a couple of good points though, about the location, possible attendance, etc. I wonder what the prices for the admission tickets + parking + food are going to be, given the hardships of the economy today it might be tough to take your kids to the ballgame. Not to mention traffic issues. And it may be even tougher for the fans from the neighbor counties. We'll see.

8/14 Post Game
11th game with 10 hits or more. JJ was AWESOME. Nuñez spanked again. (Even though ANY pitcher takes a homer) Hermida producing. (About time) Cantu seems to be waking up. The remaining question is: Can they keep it up? I hope so, if they can we'll see the magic again. GOOOOOOO FISH! Only problem being that he's given up 9 now. True, and I could add that he dares the men at bat too much, and many times he abuses the fast ball so he gets probably more than he should, however, the guy still holds, while Lindstrom was a nightmare. We could have a couple of more options, like Sanchez or Calero, heck! after all a closer doesn't have to throw @ 100 mph, all he has to do is take men out. (Sounds easy) One way or the other I still think Nuñez deserves the chance.

Dan Uggla
Why would it be so ridiculous to have Uggla stay here and keep Coghlan in LF on the same team? It's not as though Coghlan is known to be better defensive IF. I think it's also kinda strange how much people have been down on Uggla's production when (excluding the recently acquired Nick Johnson) Uggla has led the team in BB and HRs all season, and still then he's viewed as a strikeout machine. I think someone else pointed out his second half numbers so far, but I think it bears repeating - AVG: 286 OBP:393 SLG: 527 Not to mention big HRs to tie games and big hits to win games. I will never understand the desire some of you have with getting rid of good players. Coghlan can stay perfectly fine playing in LF, and here's hoping we make a run at this year that motivates the FO to keep both of them in the lineup. Seriously, while we could deal with the loss in power production that came from replacing Cabrera with Cantu, and with shipping Jacobs off altogether, you can only go so far and maintain a strong offense year after year when you remove offensive power and don't really replace it. If Hanley is the only 30+ HR guy in the lineup next year we will not be in the race. Amen to that.

Call me crazy, but it's conceivable!
I predicted JJ to get the Cy Young award at the beginning of the season, but the way that Haren and Lincecum are pitching, he might have to settle for runner up. Although, if he wins anywhere close to 20 games and keeps a low ERA and WHIP and the two losses, it's going to be very close. Even though i believe it's a li'l early to predict I tend to agree, it should be a close race depending on the shape those arms may be at the end. Ah! before I forgot... Industriales campeon! Hell yes! That was my team for 30 yrs, and still in my heart.

Does Freddy knows he is allowed to at least 1 or 2 visits on the moun
Well, it's just the title was hard to comprehend, so I didn't get it. As for not taking Volstad out...I'm not blaming Fredi tonight. The bullpen has thrown a lot of innings lately. At some point, a starter not named Josh Johnson or Ricky Nolasco has to step up, and give the team 6-7 innings. Bottom line. Plus, despite struggles...it was a 2-1 game in the 5th. I doubt any manager would've taken Volstad out, at that point. Despite struggles? I'm sorry my friend, but I've seen that movie too many times, specially with Volstad, if it was a 2-1 game in the 5th it was pure luck, and it is not the first time. What i doubt though is that any manager would not send a couple of pitchers to warm up since the third inning just in case, that waiting/keeping philosophy has costed us a lot of games already, some with Volstad. If your main purpose is to win games you cannot bet on the offense when your team is leaving 10 or more men on bases per game and take so many runs against. As far as the bullpen, why can't they throw one inning a day? Try to win today's game my friend, tomorrow we'll see... how to win it too!

Volstad's last few starts have not been very impressive. It's beginning to look like a problem, and August is the worst time for him to be struggling. Maybe he's pitched too much? I thought I'm one of the few optimistics around. Beginning to look like a problem? Imo we already have a problem there, too young and inexperienced, even naive, and he looks very tired, I'm not sure he can take the pressure any longer. But I don't blame him though, he's been subjected to an unnecessary punishment. To me, that "keeping the starter for as long as possible because the bullpen is overworked" philosophy it's just crap. Starters are as human as relieves, the last ones work one or two innings (Sometimes less!) while the starters are kept for 6 or 7 innings even if they're bombarded. Furthermore, if you keep your opener untill the team is 5, 6, (Fredi's magic number) or 7 runs down, chances are you are going to lose the game, specially when your team is not producing. Deja vu?

'09 Marlins reminiscent of '03 Champs
I actually was thinking this team is starting to play like 2003....lets see if they can keep it up. They are still coming together in many ways. I really wished we had Leland in the dugout I agree, like I mentioned in another thread we may see the magic again this year, the team is fighting fire with fire, they don't give up and that's the spirit. The only thing that really scares me is the skipper's decision-making some times.

I swear I hate Nuñez
Imo the kid is doing a good job, he's got courage, I trust him better than Lindstrom, just look at the ERA and compare. Nuñez might not be the best closer, but he is the best we have at this point. I wish him success.

Where do you see us going from here?
Hi everyone! New at the forum and glad to see the level of knowledge around here. Great place! I really think we can get there, true we are in serious need of another consistent opener, but the boys are giving the max on the field, and it has paid off. I believe we could see the magic this year, I'm looking forward to it. Well, that's if Volstad and Hermida don't give me a heart attack.
