hahaha, peter and kruk just had a little fight...

you guys see that?

kruk kept backing us up

paraphrasing:

gammons: "SF won 100 games last year cause of barry"

kruk: "marlins won a champoinship cause of pierre and good pitching"

gammons: "that was also their 2nd winning season"

kruk: "and their second championship"

haha, gammons tried everything he could to not give JP props, but Kruk stuck to his guns, i really like the job he is doing, he wont let the older guys take control of the show, he gets his swings in. I LIKE IT!

Bonds is so overrated! The only reason why people are paying to see him is becuz they wanna see him break some record. But since when does the amount people wnating to c u dtermine how good of a player u are? The only thing Barry does is hit homeruns, and sometimes he can't even do that becuz they walk him so damn much. And what does Barry score when they walk him... nothing. If u walk Juan PIerre, ur in trouble, cuz that boy will run. If u don't walk him, he'll just hit the ball and get on base anyway. So i think JP is more valuble than Bonds... And that guy who said that JP was more valuable.. U the Man!!! JP IS THE mAN!!!

This is a very interesting argument. Remember, Kruk said Pierre is more valuable to HIS team than Bonds is to HIS team.

Think about it. You can walk Bonds and beat them - in fact, that is what most teams do. But you cant just walk Pierre and forget about him. He changes the game.

This is a very good argument because this is how the dynamic of the game changes. Last season, I felt Pierre and Castillo would be a success because of how they would force the defense to adjust to their speed. That opens up all kinds of places for the following hitters to place their hits. Someone has to cover second, the third baseman and the first baseman have to respect and be ready for the bunt.

Bonds walks, and you take him out of the game and force his team to drive him in. Bonds is NOT going to steal 50+ bases. Pierre would cause so much havoc if he got on base as often as Bonds does. He already causes a lot of havoc.

Remember, Kruk did not say that Pierre is BETTER than Bonds. He said simply that Pierre is more valuable to his team than Bonds. In other words, you can take Bonds out of the game by walking him and force his team to beat you, whereas if you do that with Pierre he is more likely to cause havoc on the basepaths AND his team is more likely to drive him in.

In my opinion, Kruk won that argument.

Bonds is by far the most valuable player in the game. He changes the way it is played. The gap between him and the next guy in stat categories like OPS is just insane. Kruk is out of his mind. Pitchers tremble when they face Bonds and I'm sure they don't like pitching to Pierre because he's pesky but Bonds is the most feared hitter in the game.

Kruk wont take s*** from anyone and thats why I like him on BBTN, he may be wrong now and then but he will defend his reasoning and not back off his stance (the only time he did was when he faced Big Unit in the All-Star game but I forgive him for that..)

Tonight's ruling:

John Kruk: Da Man!!!

Juan Pierre: Da Man!!!!!!!!

Harold Reynolds/Peter Gammons: OWNED BY KRUK

Pierre proved his value in Game 1 of the World Series when he bunted to start the game...

I am not saying Pierre is a better hitter than Bonds, but I think the point trying to bemade is that when you compare Bonds drawing a walk versus Pierre drawing a walk, I think Pierre geting on base creates more intangibles as far as the options the team manager (McKeon) has as far as bringing that run in...

As Harold Reynolds just said, You gotta manufactire runs...I think Pierre walking versus' Bonds walking creates more opportunities for runs to be manufactured

Bonds scored more runs than Pierre last year though.

no player is more valuble then Bonds, not even close.

The pitcher is always thinking about Pierre when he's on base

The pitcher is always thinking about Bonds three hitters before Bonds. Bonds effects the way a manager manages a game more then any other hitter. If he's due up to hit that inning it effects the way the guys in front of him are pitched to.

Like Gammons once said: everybody on the Marlins would have started on that Giants team last year except for Bonds. and the Giants still had a better record
