May 6, 200422 yr I dont think that there should be any excuses for not going to the games. Last year during the World Series, these bandwagon fans had no trouble going to a weekday game with a 8:00 start time and taking tickets away from the fans that supported the team all season long (me) but now that its the regular season all of a sudden its too much of a hassel to go to a weekday game. Over half the fans that went to the World Series, never and were and never will be baseball fans. The only way they are going to go the games are if they are giving something away or if it is the hip thing to do (playoffs). In the end its going to be these kind of people that run the Marlins out of South Florida, there shouldnt be any excuse of why you wont support your team. I am only 16 but have purchased a 20 game plan and will be attending other games. I dont want any awards or anything but why cant we have fans that are even half as loyal to their team as myself and the rest of the people on this board. I broke my nose last week and had to have it fixed on Tuesday which is causing alot of pain, I also will be at school tomorrow and my mom has to work tomorrow, but you know what I will still be at the game tonight supporting my team. All I want to know is how come people cant drive themselves out to the stadium and support the team also. The World Series, at best, comes along 4 times a year. School the next day is irrelevent. But one of 82 games, when there is traffic, work and school the next day, and you play a cooler team on the weekend (IMO)? It's ok IMO. You can't compare The Show to a game in May.
May 6, 200422 yr I went to 7 of the first 8 but missed the Sunday nighter. Then on Tuesday I went to the Heat game and last night I had to catch up on hw (hey its not my choice). I have no rides nor tickets tonight, but I'll go Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Thats 10 out of the first 14 and once summer comes I'll go every night I'm in town. I'll probably go to a good 50 games this year so don't blame me.
May 6, 200422 yr Yeah does anyone realize there was a Heat game Tuesday? I realize this isn't just about the 13k on Tuesday but to use it as an example is kind of inaccurate because there was over 20k at the Heat game. Granted, all those wouldn't have went to the Marlins game instead if there was no Heat game but I am totally sure attendance would have been higher. Me for example, even if I had had tickets for the Marlins game, I wouldn't have went because I would wanna watch the Heat game at home. And I think that other than Tuesday, our attendance hasn't been too shabby.
May 6, 200422 yr oh, South Florida isnt in SC? Didn't realize there was a difference b/t Greenville and Miami (thank God there's a difference, and I chose the former). Miami might have a lot to do, but so does Chicago. So does New York. So does Atlanta. I'm in South Carolina, but I'm up here for school, I'm from Central Florida. My home is 3 hrs from Miami, and when I'm in SC, I'm 2 hrs from ATL. So, I can make a good comparison, and both have equal to do. Yet Atlanta has more show up. 13k is terrible. Flat out terrible. Bottom line. I really don't know what South Carolina has to do the conversation except for the fact that it's the reason I don't attend games right now. When I'm home this summer I'll make that trip to that disgusting part of Florida known as SoFla and make it to a few games.

Dont compare Atlanta who has yet to sell out a playoff game for the Braves. The Hawks would be lucky to get 10 people at there games. Your in South Carolina because no Florida school would accept your poor excuse for a resident. Think about it. You belong in South Carolina where there is nothing to do. Dont be jealous of South Florida.
May 6, 200422 yr there is no need to flame. Actually, I decided to attend a school with a top 50 undergraduate program in the country as opposed to a large party school, and because I had a better shot at playing at Furman as opposed to UF, FSU, or UM. But I digress. The point is, 13k is unacceptable. You talking trash about what school I attend, what state is a better state, is beside the point. The point is that at places like SF, LA, NY, Chicago, ATL there are plenty of things to do. People still put in more than 13k. It's embarassing.

Ours is in the middle of nowhere. 13k on a Wednesday night in May is decent by our standards.

They have stadiums in downtown, and a club with tradition. Eleven years and two World Series even, but we still lack both of those things.

But don't blame other people for not going until you start spending your time and money supporting arts and events that you don't want to spend your time and money on. This is so stupid... NO ONE IS TO BLAME FOR THE LOW ATTENDANCE!!! THERE IS NO BLAME!!! PLEASE STOP ALL THIS!!! IT'S DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!! So many things have closed over the years due to crappy patronage. Teams, event halls, stores, whatever...do the people who frequent these things blame everyone else for not supporting those same things? No! Let people do what they want. Not everybody has to love going to baseball games.
May 6, 200422 yr I already did a voul when i was 10 yrs old that when i got a car and good money i will go to as many games as possible. NOW i am 13 yrs old and go to like 10 games a year because my family is not much of a sports family. except for my brother and a couple of cousins. i wish i can go to everygame though. yesterday i went to the game and i felt kinda pissed off because of the disgraceful crowd. i hope i get more oppertunities to go to the games instead of cheering alone in my room watching the game. my days will come. I will start saving money for the future. by the way this post is by FISHFAN25....FORGOT TO SIGN IN.
May 6, 200422 yr it's not like I care too much about attendance. I'm surprised I even put forth this much effort in a thread whose topic was attendance. I f*cking root for the Marlins, not their fans. Especially during the season. I might talk attendance or stadium issues in the offseason, but we're playing a game every day, so there is always baseball to talk about. There are no excuses though. 13k is pitiful. Quit making excuses. Nothing can be done by us. Whoever started this thread was right on.
May 6, 200422 yr so what do you care if they get 12k in attendance? does it do you harm in some way? we're the fans here, you're preaching to the choir.
May 6, 200422 yr FurmanGator: Do you b***h around Furman that there attendance in Football averaged around 11,000 a game. They should be around 20,000. P.S. "Actually, I decided to attend a school with a top 50 undergraduate program in the country as opposed to a large party school"= NOT ACCEPTED AT UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA.
May 6, 200422 yr I'm in Alaska and believe me when I say that if I lived down there in Florida,I would most certainly be in the stands cheering my fish on!
May 7, 200422 yr Perhaps the season is just too many games. I mean, look at the NFL, 16 games, every one is so important, and they're almost always sold out. Perhaps the MLB shouldn't have such a gargantuan season, and then the ticket sales would go up??? :mischief2
May 7, 200422 yr Perhaps the season is just too many games. I mean, look at the NFL, 16 games, every one is so important, and they're almost always sold out. Not here in Miami. The Dolphins "play" here 365 days a year.

For the record, Paladin Stadium only seats 16,000 smart guy. So you saying they should average 20,000 is absurd. Furman University sells out every game man, can you do us all a favor and think before you open up and spew ignorance?
May 7, 200422 yr Before I begin this rant, I must say that I love you all and don't know your individual stories so don't be offended. I just have to say that you are the worst fans in sports and I never want to hear anyone make fun of Atlanta and their lack of attendance. This team won the world series and now their getting 12k. You people, and you may, should all have at least 16-30 game plans and should support the team. You all cry when they discuss leaving the city but then instead of going, you sit on your butts and post on this board. Get out to the ballpark!!! It was the same case with the Heat....Hey, we're in the playoffs, let's go now! During the regular season, where were you? In Philadelphia, I have tickets for all the Marlins games, I'm goin to all the games at Shea. I'm making it my business to support the team. I can tell you this, if I lived in South Florida, I would probably have season tickets. Why don't you all? This is a joke...I'm sorry but it's something I had to get off my chest. You stupid retard. You come here and insult our fans and then say "PLEASE DON'T HATE ME!!111"! Screw you. We got 12K the other day because the HEAT were playing GAME 7! Last night, no one wanted to go. What's wrong with that? And it's a WEEKDAY. Wait until summer where kids can go to games and people are on vacation from work and then we'll see. Until then, STFU talking your stupid s***.
May 7, 200422 yr There's no need for this bashing. When it comes to loyalty, we're basically preaching to the chior.

No need to call people names...geez. Anyways People will come eventually. It is still an improvement over last year. Have to keep it going So it's ok for him to call us the worst fans in baseball? Even though we're not. We have proven that the fans WILL COME. Look at the New Jersey Nets, they win and go to the finals two years in a row but they still get no fans. We on the other hand, do get fans. No one wants to see a losing team though. I could understand that. And the Dodgers don't really bring anything SoFla wants to see on a weekday with the Heat playing. EVERY SINGLE TEAM HAS BANDWAGONERS, it's how you get fans. And the fact that we're still a fairly new franchise doesn't help either. We need to have a few more winning seasons and we'll get a decent fan base. Old teams like the Cubs, Yankees, Red Sox, etc have tons of fans because they're old teams. No one in Chicago is gonna like the Marlins. No one in New York is gonna like the Marlins. And because the Marlins are still a fairly new team, some South Florida people like the Mets or Yankees more. Sticking to their team. And how could we be the worst fans when Montreal got 4,001 "fans" at a game a few days ago.
May 7, 200422 yr like minervini said a couple nights ago don't expect the marlins to have a decent fan base around the country for 15 more years, but if we win a couple more titles that number should decrease.
May 7, 200422 yr Look at the New Jersey Nets Actually, fans in New Jersey have pretty much given up on the Nets after the recent sale of the team and announcement that they will be moving the team to Brooklyn.
May 7, 200422 yr I'm a bit north of Orlando but I will make it a priority to attend some games during my summer vacation this year. This team needs all the help it can get. Anyway, regarding the original post, Miami has some of the worst, if not, the worst fans of sports. They never show up until the team is winning tons of games, and even then it's hard to make a draw. Heck, one year the Dolphins couldn't sell out a freakin' playoff game. Then again, I don't know why people don't go, but in a metropolitan area with like 5 million people I find it extremely hard to believe that 30,000 people (.6%) of the population can't make it out to a freakin' baseball game where tickets are no more than $20 or so. Maybe Vegas or Tennessee deserves this team more than us... :confused

Dont come with info unless you have a clue what you are talking about. In your case, your mommy is calling and it is time for bed. http://www.ncaa.org/stats/football/attenda...lattendance.pdf Look at the tab to the left under div. 1-AA to prove your ignorance.
