May 6, 200422 yr Damn piece of sh*t bandwagoners. Lose 4 straight, and theyre jumpin. LOL That's Miami for ya, esp. since they're all into the Heat now.
May 6, 200422 yr ScottCane, it may be funny that FishfaninPA is the one bringing it up, but the fact remains...13k sucks.
May 6, 200422 yr Furman: This is not South Carolina. There are things to do in South Florida. It is what it is. This should not be shocking. South Florida has too many options for entertainment .
May 6, 200422 yr ScottCane, it may be funny that FishfaninPA is the one bringing it up, but the fact remains...13k sucks. 13K may suck, but it is better than the 8-9K we had last year. Building the fan base will take time, so we should be pleased with the progress made so far this year. Do your part. Keep encouraging everyone you see to come out and support the team. Let them know how much fun it is to watch these guys play. And of course, make it to every game you can.

May 6, 200422 yr i went to the game last night and it was very sad to see so little people at the game..there was a couple from detroit sitting behind me and my brother and they were saying wow i cant beleive we got such good seats to see the defending world champs cause we cant even get seats like this in detroit were we knowing were gonna get beat almost every night...the upper deck was empty...
May 6, 200422 yr I got 3 friends from Richmond...you from there, DodgeMarlin? I'm not from Richmond, I live right on the coast of the Chesepeake Bay (Mathews County) on the weekends and I work and go to school in Williamsburg, VA. I will, however be in Richmond next weekend for the NASCAR race. :cool Thats cool man Im from little town called Warrenton in VA..like 40 miles directly west of DC
May 6, 200422 yr Scott....It's nice that you want to call me out...How many games do you go to? And oh by the way...i went to all the Marlins games at the new ballpark and have tickets for all of them. I'm also going to Shea. If I was in South Florida, i'd be at almost every game. It's weird me calling the people out but there's no denying how much I love my Fish.
May 6, 200422 yr Marlins2003 said it best. Right now the best thing the marlins have going for them is the fact that the kids are getting into the marlins. This is how a fan base is built, not buy people who are already adults because it seems to me it is a lot harder for adults to stay loyal because they didn't grow up with an alegiance to the team. In 10 years when these kids get into their 20s is probably when the real mass loyalty starts to begin, but before then it will be the few die hards like many people on this board, and the ones you see in the stands every day. Crowds will slowly begin to increase, unfortunately I think the team needs to stay over 500 to do this right now. Btw. Everyone says it is too hard to get to the games because of work. What if games started at 745-8. That would make for a late night though.
May 6, 200422 yr FishFanNOT IN FLA: So you go to Marlins games in PA. Do you support your PA teams when they are not playing the MARLINS? How come you dont go to your home resident team games other then when they are playing the Marlins? Are you asking longtime New Yorkers to go to Marlins games in FLA when the Mets or Yankees are not playing? Do you know how much of the South Florida population is not from South Florida. I think if I was a Pirate or Philly fan hearing you talk about the Marlins that I would be upset about your lack of loyalty. If you think I am wrong for questioning your loyalty to the Marlins because you live in PA then how in the hell can you question the loyalty of a majority of people living in South Florida who are fans of other teams just like you. I think you should be able to understand my point. You called out South Florida. Now I called you out.

Upper Deck seats are not sold on weekdays unless absolutely necessary
May 6, 200422 yr well to get back on topic, Im in school right now but when I finally come home Saturday Ill be going to alot of games
May 6, 200422 yr The fact of the matter remains, Marlins 2003 said it best, the foundaiton of our fan base (children) can't go on weekdays all the time. Maybe they can go once in a blue moon, but they can't now. The fact that the stadium is isolated from them (45 minutes there if you are lucky, 30-45 minutes back) and the threat of a delay or a long game could cost the kids in school the next day. For such young children education is more important. If the stadium is put in the Orange Bowl like it continues to look right now, I do believe you'll see more people at games, but more than 25k consistently on weeknights is asking alot in any stadium anywhere.
May 6, 200422 yr Not for nothing, but I think a major reason why there isn't alot of attendence on weeknight games is simply due to the geography and spatial development of SoFl. Unlike most other cities, Miami is not a "Hub and Spoke" city. Because of the everglades and the water sprawl has almost exclusively gone north and south. Therefore there is no central point in which to place a stadium. Thus, wherever the stadium is a large portion of the fans will not be able to attend due to work. Also, it's not like there is alot of employers in the PPS area. Go to a stadium in any other town and it's among skyscrapers filled with 9 to 5'ers who walk out of their cube with a couple other coworkers and walk over to the game. For example, I went to the 1:05pm Angels-Tigers game last Wednesday at CoPa. The stands were filled with suits who took a half day and wandered over to catch the game. That can't happen unless you've got a downtown site.

May 6, 200422 yr Monitoring the attendance is one thing, but I wish threads like this would just go away. Because: 1) You're barking up the wrong tree. The people to whom you're really addressing your rant aren't going to read any of this, and there's nothing any of us can do about the situation. And, MORE IMPORTANTLY, 2) I think it's extremely stupid to bash an entire region of people because they don't go to baseball games. People will go to baseball games if they want to go, and if they don't want to go, that's equally okay. Would you start rounding them up and forcing them to go? And you can call people bad fans if they don't show up, but to do it with such anger is ridiculous. SO what if they're bad fans? That doesn't make them bad people, and they really don't deserve all this rage and mockery. And, in any case, the concept of a "bad fan" is just ridiculous. Like I said, people will go to games if they want to, and who are any of us to say whether they should or should not go. If one person is a "bad fan" then we're all "bad fans". How many NHL games did you all go to this year? Bad fans. How many MLS and arena football games did you all go to? Bad fans. How many ballet recitals have you all been to this year? You're all s***ty ballet fans. It's just baseball, you know? It's important to me, but if it's not important to someone else, I think that's understandable. Let people support the team however they want, and if that means only watching games on TV, or whatever, then good for them.
May 6, 200422 yr Until last summer, I couldn't go to games regurlarly for a variety of reasons (couldn't drive, school, the list goes on and on). Was I a bad fan until now?
May 6, 200422 yr How many ballet recitals have you all been to this year? You're all s***ty ballet fans. you really know how to hurt a guy.

Got to start somewhere. They are up 95% over last year at this time. Thats pretty damn good to me. It starts with that. People get more interested then start going to games more often
May 6, 200422 yr Attendance has gone up this year and tuesday night was weak because of the Heat game. Bandwagoners however are important for teams, the real fans like us will go to games all the time, but bandwagoners are the ones that push attendance way up. We won the World Series, but many old fans and 97 bandwagoners were disillusioned by the fire sale after the 97 series and as long as the stadium issue isnt resolved and the team moving is sitll a possiblity, many fans are reluctant to return to this time or to grow too attached. I am not tlakin about myself, but its common for real fans to bash bandwagoners but they are a part of sports and every body in the stadium is good. Fans need stability and a competitive team (the latter we have)
May 6, 200422 yr I dont think that there should be any excuses for not going to the games. Last year during the World Series, these bandwagon fans had no trouble going to a weekday game with a 8:00 start time and taking tickets away from the fans that supported the team all season long (me) but now that its the regular season all of a sudden its too much of a hassel to go to a weekday game. Over half the fans that went to the World Series, never and were and never will be baseball fans. The only way they are going to go the games are if they are giving something away or if it is the hip thing to do (playoffs). In the end its going to be these kind of people that run the Marlins out of South Florida, there shouldnt be any excuse of why you wont support your team. I am only 16 but have purchased a 20 game plan and will be attending other games. I dont want any awards or anything but why cant we have fans that are even half as loyal to their team as myself and the rest of the people on this board. I broke my nose last week and had to have it fixed on Tuesday which is causing alot of pain, I also will be at school tomorrow and my mom has to work tomorrow, but you know what I will still be at the game tonight supporting my team. All I want to know is how come people cant drive themselves out to the stadium and support the team also.
