Marlins Fans

Before I begin this rant, I must say that I love you all and don't know your individual stories so don't be offended. I just have to say that you are the worst fans in sports and I never want to hear anyone make fun of Atlanta and their lack of attendance. This team won the world series and now their getting 12k. You people, and you may, should all have at least 16-30 game plans and should support the team. You all cry when they discuss leaving the city but then instead of going, you sit on your butts and post on this board. Get out to the ballpark!!!

It was the same case with the Heat....Hey, we're in the playoffs, let's go now! During the regular season, where were you? In Philadelphia, I have tickets for all the Marlins games, I'm goin to all the games at Shea. I'm making it my business to support the team. I can tell you this, if I lived in South Florida, I would probably have season tickets. Why don't you all? This is a joke...I'm sorry but it's something I had to get off my chest.

I have a 41 Game Flex Plan. I ain't saying anything.

I have 4 season tickets on the 20 game Saturday plan. Plus I plan to attend another 20 (already have tickets). I'll be at the game tonight. So, likely most "fans" on this board do attend games. It's the rest of the community that needs to step it up.

Even though I don't have some type of ticket plan, I try to go to as many games as possible. It's true that a lot people on this board go to a lot of games anyway. Wait until the weekend comes. It will get better.

yah, weekend games get better for EVERY team. There is no reason for excuses anymore. It used to be, wait till the Yankees/Braves/etc. play. Or wait till we get on a winning streak. Or wait till the weekend. Yah, the crowds will be bigger this weekend, but the problem is weeknight games. It's utterly embarassing. I definitely don't blame the board. 1) most of the fans on here don't even own a driver's license, 2) the people on this board that CAN go to games, do.

It's the rest of the piece of sh*t fans in SoFla.

Please then don't hate me, as it isnt you guys that im talking to...It's just frustrating seeing all those empty seats.

I got 3 friends from Richmond...you from there, DodgeMarlin?

I'm not from Richmond, I live right on the coast of the Chesepeake Bay (Mathews County) on the weekends and I work and go to school in Williamsburg, VA.

I will, however be in Richmond next weekend for the NASCAR race. :cool

In a sense, I think we got a bit spoiled by the early attendance numbers...should the attendance be better? Of course, but to expect the crowds to be as large as they were for opening day, ring day, and the Braves is a bit unrealistic at this point. Again, I'm not saying it shouldn't be better, but I'm honestly not that surprised that a mid-week game during this time of the year (while school is still in) got a low attendance #.

We're not hating on you. Trust me, I do know exactly what you are talking about because it frustrates me too and it breaks my heart seeing all the empty seats.

Furman - Yea, a lot of people go on weekends and when certain teams visit. It sucks but what can you do. Weeknights are tough. We all know that.

Exactly.

You're ignoring a few things - the incredibly bad press the Marlins are getting down here right now (regarding the stadium vote today especially on QAM where the bad-mouthing of this deal has been non-stop from Joe Rose in the morning to Ed Kaplan at night and everyone in between, and in the broadcast media generally) and the increase in attendance over last year and the year before.

Let me give you example of the former.

This morning, listening to QAM (Joe Rose) had Ike Seamans from NBC6 on to continue to spew his particular brand of poison regarding the proposed stadium plan. As he did last night on tv, Seamans continues to rant about taxpayer money (there is none), inability of the Marlins to come up with their contribution in cash (which is unnecessary with this funding plan) and continuing the lie that this stadium is the Marlins stadium (which it isn't, it will belong to the County with the Marlins taking a minority ownership position by contributing $20 million in equity).

As for the latter, MLB attendance is up 15% this season. The Marlins are drawing somewhere north of 50 and in some cases close to 100% ahead of last year. It's unfair to expect any more than what they've done attendance-wise. Rebuilding fan support will continue to increase incrementally. The idea that all of a sudden 35,000+ are going to show up night after night is just plain foolish.

I have a 41 game pack. This morning after this post, I'll be calling the Marlins to increase my package from two seats to five because others want to join my son and I at the games. These are people who haven't attended more than three Marlins games in the last two years and now they're hooked. This is happening all over South Florida.

Excellent post.

In addition, I believe once the stadium is firmed you will see attendance go up.

Fans would not support this team 100%, unless they feel confortable that this team will stay here for ever. It is sad, but it is the reality.

It's Miami we live in.... bottom line is most of the "fan base are bandwagoners who probably can't make it to the stadium during a weeknight without special preperation. That is reserved for BIG event's... playoff's, Opening Day, a BIG giveaway of some sort. It's a fact..... Most people even here on this BOARD don't go to weeknight games. Instead they buy WEEKEND packages and go only on weekends... It's just hard for People from MIAMI to commit to games during the week.

But I thought you weren't a real fan if you couldn't drive across town to make it to games? :confused

But I thought you weren't a real fan if you couldn't drive across town to make it to games? :confused huh? Nope it's Miami I know there are a lot of Marlins Fans out there. It's just very hard to make it to 82 home games a year. Weekends are the most convenient time o go to any sporting event. Our fan base is simply NOT large enough to support 30K+ people every night...Bottom line is not EVERYONE is going to all 82 games so we will essentially need enough fans so that on days where 30K people say I am not going there are another 30K that will say they are going.... Weekends are the only time where MOST fans agree to go.

The main reason there's a fall-off on weeknights is because much of the Marlins increased fanbase is coming from families (parents and kids) and because they are school nights, opt to buy weekend games.

It's amazing frankly how kids are driving this resurgence. A couple of years ago every kid in Little League wanted to be on the Cubs or Yankees or whatever team, least of all a LL Marlins team. Now every kid wants to be on a team named after the Fish.

You see in the stands - kids everywhere - and that's the reason the Marlins are adamant about a domed stadium, and rightfully so. When the Marlins can guarantee parents that there will be a game regardless of the weather, the sun, heat, etc. you'll see them packing the place.

i try to go to about 10 games in a year and im currently trying to buy dolphin season tickets.

im a little broke though

Weeknights are tough at STL, Atlanta, San Fran, LA, NY, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Colorado, etc. It's tough to draw a 30k crowd on a weeknight, but 20k is feasible...or should be. Damn piece of sh*t bandwagoners. Lose 4 straight, and theyre jumpin.

FishFANinPA: Are you serious? You live in PA and your calling South Floridians out. Maybe your the reason the Pirates have crappy attendance. Or why Dont you go to Philly Games? You see, there are alot of people in South Florida just like you in PA. They live in South Florida but have allegiances to other teams. I bet there is a BUCFANinFL on the Pirates board saying the same thing. "Why doesnt anyone go to the pirate games? I am in Florida and would go to every one with that new stadium" JMHO

why would he constantly go to phillie or pirate games if he's a marlin fan?

Exactly my point. Why would half the population of South Florida from New York go to a Marlins game when there Mets or Yankees fans. I love South Florida for the different ethnic backgrounds, variety of people, and cultures. For that reason, South Florida has a lot of people from other areas of the world. They may not have an allegiance to the local teams. You got the idea!!!!
