To anyone who thinks...

Featured Replies

Matt Treanor is the answer, you're nuts. This is merley a stall tactic by Beinfest to find a new catcher somewhere else, and while others shook off the possibility of it being a vet like Dan Wilson, think again. I'm sure it will be another cheap vet who can handle our staff well, because there is no way they trade for a young prospect-like guy (Ex. Toby Hall) when you have Willingham in the minors, ready to be the go-to guy in '05. It will NOT be Jason Kendall, or some other offensive stud.

If the Marlins pick up someone to improve the lineup, It's probably going to be in the outfield. At this point, Gonzalez won't be moved, because he has proven himself as the number one contender thus far for the gold glove, and shown that he CAN hit a little. I'd be very suprised if we picked up a new shortstop.

Hit a little? Gonzalez carried the lineup yesterday along with Mordy and Choi

He's hitting pretty well recently man. Maybe I'm just blinded by his not hitting at all before, but he's seeing the ball extremely well. And his defense is looking to have gotten better.

Yesterday in the tenth he just got under a pitch, and almost tied it up in one swing. Even getting under it, it almost dropped for a double if Dunn hadn't run over for the catch. The old Alex Gonzalez doesn't make contact on that pitch.

really going out on a limb there aren't you WC? you mean an 11-year minor leaguer isn't the savior for the marlins?

and weren't you the one leading the Castro parade during the offseason?

and who's saying Treanor is "the answer" anyway?

and the answer to what exactly?

he doesn't have to be the solution to all the team's problems. just split time with Redmond and put up mediocre numbers, which is all we really required from Castro in the first place.

Your Right JC, Treanor is not the answer. We need a solid catcher who has alot of experience like Kendall or Santiago. I think Beinfest will get another catcher a little later along with some Relievers.

The title of this thread is "To anyone who thinks...". Obviously, you are not one who thinks that way, therefore it does not apply to you.

Yes I was. We all make mistakes.

Just trying to get it in the heads of those who think Treanor coming up for Castro is great, that he ain't very good. In fact, I bet he isn't much better than Castro was. I could be wrong, and Treanor could turn into the next Mike Redmond (his stats go up and he becomes a better hitter in the majors than he ever was in the minors), but we all know that happens once in a blue moon.

of course treanor is not the answer but he had to do something about castro he was getting heat from everywhere about this guy...i hope we do get a veteran soon for at least the end of this season and then go after a stud in the off-season...as for AGon i hope he stays right were he is...the guy is starting to come around hitting and his defence is the best in the league IMO...

All I ask for Trenor is to hit .200+ and call a good game. Anything above that is a bonus. Redmond is our Catcher.

btw, I would keep Gonzo hitting 7th in the line up regardless of who is behind the plate. Sea Bass is in a grove and showing us that he has the talent to be a decent hitter.

fair enough.

Treanor doesn't have to be anything special though, he just has to be decent.

If you don't think he's any better than Castro was.... considering Castro was hitting .150 or so, I'll take my chances with Treanor for the moment.

(Though I'm sure Beinfest is looking at all kinds of possible moves.)

Let's just say Treanor has very small shoes to fill. We're in first place despite Castro, if Treanor can hit .200 with occasional power and take some walks I'll be happy.

or at least put the ball in play with bases loaded and 0 outs

Hey he can hover around .200 for all I care. The question is will he get timely hits? Will he come thru when we need him to. As far as I am concerned you can throw all stats out the window if a guy has the ability to come through in the clutch. Now I know that under normal circumstances a guy that hits about .200 probably isn't much of a clutch player. But hey like everyone else has already stated, I am just hoping that he does a better job than Castro. Now that is not asking too much I don't think.

We've been getting along just fine with minimal production from the catcher's spot this season. We need someone who knows how to call a game. If Treanor can do that, great. If not, we are in trouble.

Whatever Treanor does will be better than what Ray has done....

I bet Beinfest will give him a week or so to show him that he can hold the job..... IMO, he has earned the opportunity to try and win this job.

If treanor can be productive a platoon of red and treanor will be just fine, no need to go get a "veteran" aka wash up like wilson or benito.

Now, if we are talking about kendall...thats another story....but it's unlikely

Theres no doubt A-Gon has made an adjustment. Now lets see if the pitchers strike back...

Most likely due to not hitting in front of the pitcher anymore

which is good

i dont think anyone has ever thought that treanor is the answer to anything.

all i want out of him is an average around .220

which would be about 85 points higher than castro.....who has failed miserably in both his chances to be a major league catcher. he would go back to AAA and do well...watch......then someone will get back on his bandwagon and say how great he is.

castro has played his last inning as a marlin.

if treanor can tread water....the marlins will not need to make a move behind the plate.

if he struggles...then they will make a move.

this gives you up to 2 months to figure that out.

i would of done it about a month ago..but thats just me.

castro showed what kind of team player he is last night. i wish we would of just cut him right then and there.

Quit harshing our mellow. Anything is better than our previous situation. Let's see Treanor play before we damn or deify him.

I have. He isn't that good at all.

BUT, he is the third Marlin dating a celebrity, so who cares? :lol

IMO gonzalez is hitting better because he is showing patience... hes no longer swinging at ridiculous balls outside the strike zone... and according to len casper and tommy soutton gonzalez decides to take a pitch before its even thrown. However, in his recent outings i believe he is actually getting a better eye for the ball in and out of the strike zone...

its glad to finally not see him go into 0-2 every single time at the plate.... :thumbup

also what constitutes to a golden glove win?? its not necessarily the guy with the lowest errors right?

as for castro what a freakin bum... he cant suck up a sore toe and play the rest of the game?? but then again it could've been really painful i guess :mischief2

Who's he dating? Damn, these Marlins are pimpin!

yes I wanna know ... gossip gossip haha

... ohh yeah btw I think you can all forget the marlins resolving this situation since I dont think the team will go out on a limb and give up a couple of good prospects for a beat up and washed up catcher.... I believe we can do with mediocre production out of our catchers ... the need is in the bullpen and maybe another bat. I dont think that there is enough quality for us to get in the catcher posish since most teams have young catchers that they wouldnt wanna give up. (martinez, hall, olivo, bard, whoever )

... treanor is not the answer and neither is willingham ... Redmond is our backup and Castro should go to jail. I think we will platoon them 4 depending on who's hot and whos injured. (no im not saying carry 3-4 catchers as many of you might be thinking)
