Jeff Conine still remembers the snowflakes falling during batting practice at Jacobs Field during the 1997 World Series.

Conine is the only player left from that Florida championship team as the Marlins open interleague play against the Cleveland Indians.

``It was cold, but we didn't care, it was the World Series,'' Conine said.

Omar Vizquel is the only Indian left from that Series, which the Marlins won in seven games for their first championship.

The two teams met in 2002, when Florida swept the Indians in a three-game series at home. Conine has since returned to Jacobs Field, playing with Baltimore from 1999-2003.

``I still have fond memories of it,'' Conine said.

Dontrelle Willis will make his 12th start of the season, and his third interleague start. Last year, Willis went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in two starts against Oakland and Tampa Bay.

Lou Merloni is the only Indians player that has faced Willis, going 1-for-5 while playing with Boston last season.

None of the Marlins have faced Cliff Lee, who makes his first interleague start. Lee comes off his first loss this season in which he allowed five runs and 10 hits in 6 1-3 innings to Anaheim.

The Marlins split a four-game series against the New York Mets after a 5-2 loss Sunday. Florida leads Philadelphia by two games in the NL East, and is up 3 1/2 over New York and Atlanta.

The Indians won their third straight Sunday with a 7-0 win over the Anaheim Angels. Cleveland's next 12 games are against Florida, Cincinnati, New York and Atlanta -- all teams above .500.
