Oliver = terrible

Perisho = terrible

Howard = below average

Tejera = bad

Koch = train wreck

Manzanillo = ass grabingly good, but it's only been a week or two.

Benitez = automatic

Available:

Phelps = meh

Borland = bleah

Bump = eh

the one thing that has been consistent for the Marlins this season is the bullpen (except for the closer) has been god-awful.

hopefully during the break wayne can work with koch and figure out his mechanical flaws....

as far as the rest.....:plain

Yea Benitez and Manzanillo are the only ones worth a crap in the bullpen

Phelps isn't available he's out 6-8 weeks.

You do know that just about every major league bullpen would have given up the lead a few times tonight if forced into the same situation, right?

You can not expect to win a game like tonight with your 4 worst pitchers forced to pitch 8 innings. You need offense, much more than 6 runs.

Ok Beinfest here's what you do.

Get on the phone with Seattle and get a deal done for Ron Villone and Eddie Guardado.

Release Oliver, send down Perisho.

Call up Justin Wayne, send down Howard.

Problem solved.

These guys are going to have pitch sooner or later you can't expect 7 innings out of your starter every night. These situations are going to come up during the season, and the good teams have the depth to deal with these situations.

You can at the very least expect the reigning NL Rookie of the Year to reach the 6th inning in more than half of his starts.

I hope. Right?

Give Scott Sanders a try. I mean it worked with Manzanillo and his numbers were awful in AAA.d Whats the worst that can happen?

Everyday Eddie would get my vote, maybe BJ Ryan if the O's were dealin but I don't see why they would. Koch has the stuff, he just uses it 50% of the time it seems like

gracesqui is sporting a 1.93 ERA and a 0.93 WHIP in 14ip for the topes.

let's bring him back. he's gotta be better than some of the garbage we have now.

he's been on the DL for well over a month. That's the reason he only has 14 innings pitched.

I have been a believer in adding Ron Villone. I am also calling for Willis to be moved to the pen.

Closer: Benitez

7th & 8th inning: Willis / Manzy / Villone

MR: Billy Koch & Ben Howard

P.S. Check out Ben Howards stats in 2003 as a starter. 35 IP with an ERA of 3.64.

I think if Koch can get his stuff together, then we are just one arm away from having a decent bullpen. I think that Perisho should only be used as a situational pitcher and never pitch a full inning, Howard could do the same thing but to get out righties. I also would rather have Gracie than DO.

ah, gotcha

I agree with Rferry here - to a point. I think Willis has got to get beyond the 5th and into the 6th inning. As it is, Burnett, Willis and Beckett have all been very inconsistent this season. Oliver, sigh, has been terrible.

But I do think it is a lot to ask your pen to pitch 7 innings and get a win, at the same time I think they should have been up to the task. There were a lot of 2 out rallies by the Braves and a lot of walks. A lot of walks. And, a lot of bad pitches. The pen generally has shown a lack of control.

I think something is going to happen soon here. We have to get some relief in the pen otherwise, we are in serious jeopardy of being on the outside looking in.

The offense is fine and the starters will be there when they get back healthy. The Pen is the real big scare right now.

how bout bringing back nate bump?

he has been ballin in AAA since being sent down.

1.38 ERA and 0.62 WHIP in 13IP... he's allowed 7 hits and only ONE WALK

sure i have always liked nate bump, maybe we could even see him up tomorrow...who knows?

dont worry though...trades are definitely on the way for the pen

the FO knows this team can win and they wont sit around, they didnt do it last year so why would they do it this year?

Anyone who can't throw a strike needs to slow down to the point where they can throw them a significant majority of the time. All the good relief pitchers pound the zone.

Amen. I thought the same thing tonight. Too many sexy fastballs, not good enough on location. All the sizzle, but none of the steak.

I agree too. I have always like Bump and I think he has the talent to contribute to this team's success. He is going to be a pivotal part of this team and it is only a matter of time.

I would like to see Wayne come back too.

That, and ship off several of our bullpen arms for one, solid arm that throws strikes.

is justin wayne good to go

During the break, Wayne is going to be in Houston working with Roger Clemens, Randy Johnson, and other Cy Youngers and future hall of famers... not Billy Koch ;) .

You have to remember that Bump and Wayne are doing well at Albuquerque because they are doing what they have done their entire minor league careers....and that is starting. Not everyone has the make up to be a reliever. Plus I think that Jack McKeon caused some of their problems by trying to be tough on them in front of the whole stadium and that is not a technique that will work for all pitchers. You try it once or twice and if it doesn't work, don't do it on the mound...call them into the office and talk to them.

I am hoping both Wayne and Bump are getting their confidence back in AAA because they are both very good starting pitchers. Maybe they'll get traded to teams that can use them in that capacity. They are really wasted with the Marlins who have no need for anymore starters at this time!
