Admin Walker... again

White Flag.....DONT DO IT.....GO TO ARIZONA INSTEAD....OR PITTSBURGH....

Walker is a plus because he'd be around next year too. Its hard to see the Rockies taking on the kind of money we'd need them to though unless they're getting alot back. I'm still not sold on making a big move.

I agree, but I think as long as the Rockies can eat up $6 Million of his deal next year Walker could end up here. I also believe he is the best option we have out in right field, this year and next.

I think he's the best option thats been discussed. We can't burn the precious little thats left in our system on a rent-a-player, especially when its not really clear that we're a contending team. Walker would be a good move because he's a good player, and he'd be around next year. So we make a move that says to the fans and players we're in this race and at the same time if things don't work out this year we're setup nicely for next year.

That said we still need bullpen help as much as anything. You have to wonder if a move in that department might be imminent given the decision to move DO.

how bout his age, injury levels and lack of athleticism?

Or, if we get him, it'll probably drain what's left of our minor league system?

I'm not sold on the move as it is being reported we've proposed it...involving Conine.

From a pure baseball standpoint (factoring in our economic situation) Conine becomes very expendable when considering Walker's place on the team, and the fact that Conine becomes a $4 million platoon player...a luxury we clearly can't afford. However, from a sentimental (and also economic standpoint when considering merchandise sales for Conine) it screams bad move. Dealing Conine sends a bad message to the casual fans (who all adore Jeff) plus we trade a durable outfielder in Conine for an injury liability in Walker. I'd much rather keep Conine get Finley and do a lefty righty platoon of the two (or Conine / Choi) instead of Walker if it means giving up Conine.

Now I know this sounds radical, but here's my mini-plan for solving our problems for the stretch (with a long term explanation).

1. Walker comes over (with $5 million paid towards next year's total) in exchange for: Nunez, Reed, Murphy, and Holdzkom. Walker becomes our RF, Cabrera to left.

2. Choi is then traded for bullpen help...Seattle for Villone and cash(?) I know that this is going to get me yelled at vehemently, but we were rumored to be discussing a Choi swap when Nomar and Delgado were both linked with us. Also in this scenario, Conine becomes our first-baseman 100% of the time, and in a year, Stokes is playing first for us.

Go ahead, yell at me, but I think a trade that boils down, essentially to Choi for Walker, helps our lineup out a lot.

I have my doubts he will finish this year on the active list, never mind next year. He is a walking injury waiting to happen, which is the reason he has only been playing the last month...and has missed significant time over the last few years.

Bad investment, moneywise and personnelwise.

You have other teams in your sig and avatar, would you username really be that bad with a player on another team? That said, trading choi would be stupid imo.

Walker for Conine and a prospect is a no-brainer. Walker is a great player (when healthy), a true difference maker. He's a respected vet, so the players will listen to him. But most of all he's hungry. The Rockies have never been serious contenders, and bringing him here will refocus his energy and give us all a kick from our complacency.

Only problems might be health and money. Overall I think this is a better deal than Finely. Worst comes to worst this offseason trade him to an AL team where he can DH.

not a wise decision

How about Villone and a lot of cash (lol) seriously, I know we could get more than that, but that's just a thought, trade Choi for the best offer on the table then.

the cash better be $10mil or something like that

no reason to trade Choi, none at all

I like Choi, he's starting to grow on me, but if he's not going to play against left-handers, his value to me becomes marginal. Would I trade him considering our organizational strengths at first (Conine, Stokes) yes, but I'm not advocating giving him away.

Did you just say Admin Walker has a lack of athleticism?

:lol

I'm not a big fan of trading (what's left) of the farm to get an ageing outfielder with a history of injury problems....

Didn't Willingham start out at 1st base?
