Our Proposed New 5th Starter

Featured Replies

Derek Lowe: The Red Sox have talked to the Marlins and Padres about him. But would need to get a starting pitcher back (or somewhere else) to move him.

let's give up another starter!

not.

i would be happy to have him, tho, because even though his numbers aint so great, he's a groundball pitcher playing with the red sox D behind him, you gotta know thats not helping him. at all.

Does it even matter anymore

I just hate to think what our farm system is gonna look like after 4:00 tomorrow. I've never seen a GM screw himself in the ass like this. We traded 2 25 year old studs and we're basically in the same position as we were yesterday. We still need a bat, now we need a starting pitcher instead of a reliever. We're probably going to have to overpay to get those too because other teams know we have to make these deals if we're going to have a chance.

Sinkerball pitchers do not fare well in Pro Player. With the short nfield grass balls skip out into the outfield in a hurry.

He's also a free agent this winter and isn't earning his paycheck at the moment.

Lowe would be good, he is pitching in a hitter friendly park with an infield that is terrible, if you bring him here a pitcher park and one of the best infields in the MLB also he would be the 4th or 5th starter and is better then most other teams 4th or 5th......

and for all of you who keep on crying about our farm system when was the last time a triple A or minor league team won the world series. we need to win now not later on. if we can get to the playoffs most team will be scared to play us specially in the first round short series going againt Beckett,Pavano,AJ and Willis and at the in the 8th mota and 9th benitez!!! nasty now if we get Lowe or an ok starter then we look even better. plus if we make it to the playoffs that will make the stadium situation a lot better and it would be almost a done deal and once that happens we have more money to spend.

Doesn't Pavano have a sinker? I'd say he does pretty well.

Pavano relies on his fastball. As does Willis and Manzy, who induce a lot of groundouts.

Bump is the only one I can think of this year that throws a sinker exclusively.

lowe has his best pitching this season ahead of him

had a couple nice starts recently...one against the yankees

he's only getting better and would be an awesome "5th" starter

To those who don't want Lowe: would you rather have Bump, Wayne, Small, or Tejera starting for the rest of the year instead?

EDIT: Of course, now reading the first post, I wouldn't want Lowe if we had to give up a current starter either- we'd still have one empty spot.

I heard because of off days, we may only need a 5th starter for 5-6 starts the rest of the year

so make it an open audition if we cant get Lowe or someone

just some numbers here....our current #5 starters (tejera, phelps, wayne, and bump) average, in their eight starts:

3 and 2/3 innings per start.

and an ERA of 9.20 per start.

Giving up any of our starters fo lowe is dumb. All of our starters are better than him, plus, as stated before,we wouldnt fix a problme.

Ok now here is were beinfest will mess up badly. If we do that trade i know beinfest will give up Pavano or AJ. We cannot do that. We cannot afford to lose another young talented starter of ours. Thats our heart of the team, Pitching. I dont think that deal will be done, we wont give up a starter (i hope not) and Boston is in the race for the AL East. They are about the aquire Walker, so indeed we need to give them Either AJ or Carl.
