Kerry's lack of a post-convention bounce proves...

Featured Replies

...that he is simply a boring candidate.

Look, I know LCyberlina will come in here and attack me for saying this, but Kerry sucks, and I think most Democrats even know it.

The guy is boring, a less than great speaker, and doesn't bring anything exciting to the table. Most people that vote for Kerry this year will vote for him because he's not Bush, and most people that vote for Bush this year will vote for him because he's not Kerry.

The candidate's in this election SUCK!! in both parties! If the Democrats had anything resembling an exciting candidate, they'd blow out Bush in November, but no they have Kerry so it comes down to who is the lesser of the 2 evils for most people going to the polls.

Sorry, I needed to vent because no matter who wins the election, I think the next President of our Nation is going to suck.

Agreed. Damned if you do and Damned if you don't with these two and and at the end of the day you would rather not have either one of these two clowns running this country, but who would you rather have? Nader??

You have to take the lesser of two evils this year when you vote and its as simple as that.

Kerry+Bush= :thumbdown

everyone has known for a long time now that john kerry was the dem nominee, and his running mate was picked well in advance of the convention, so i dont think this year's dem convention packed any significant revelations that would have boosted interest in the candidate's campaign anyway. any "bounce" of the sort has already been sustained over the past few weeks....also, if i remember correctly, kerry had a bounce after he picked edwards.

to date, really all this election has proven is that everything is becoming increasingly partisan while the middle ground continues to shrink. most people have already made their minds up.

i would be willing to bet that bush won't be having any post-convention bounce, either. this will be an election that defies election-year common sense.

I'm not too impressed by Kerry either. He sounds fake, not an exceptionally well speaker and just isn't overly exciting.

But the thing that draws me to him and to other Dems as well is that....he's not Bush!

That's basically his biggest weapon, it's pretty pathetic that your best arguement over your opponent is that you're not him.

Regardless though, I'll still like him 3844648277464 better than Bush but there's definitely been better Democrats in the past.

I don't think it bounced much when they picked Edwards.

But the question is do you think they both suck or what?

Kerry's steam is all Bush hate and not love for Kerry. That will make him fail.

496306

why?

do you have reason to believe the bush hate will subside come november?

i don't.

It will not convince undecided voters.

Is there anyone left out there who is still undecided. Maybe a whole 13 people?

496324

Exactly, the number has gotten smaller since the convention where before a few undecided votes would throw support behind that canidate but it wouldn't be a solid backing. Kerry made that number even smaller after the convention because most know what they get in Bush.

What is this attack Lcyberlina day? You have your opinion dude, I have mine. Period.

When have I "attacked" you? I am the victim of constant attacks here, just because I have firm beliefs. People here hate me and constantly pick on me, even on the non-political forums, using personal attacks and low blows. Please post one instance in which I have "attacked" you. :mad :

woah! Chillski lina. I think he was just pointing out that you are probably the most "aggressive" liberal on this board.

Hey, there isnt anything wrong with having political views....it shows you care about this country...

I was telling f_m the other day, it's stupid to hate someone for political views. So they don't think the same as you on politics...big deal.

But, I think Craig was just saying that you are aggressive, and would probably throw out a post attacking his anti-Kerry stance.

I'm sure he's not saying you hate him :p

This is not the first time this happens Furman.

People mention my name without me having anything to do with their posts. They refer to me as if I was their "enemy" somehow.

Perhaps Oheeo's choice of words didn't help. The truth is that he didn't need to single me out if he wanted to make a point. There are several people here who share my views and are just as passionate about it, but it seems that I am the chosen one for conservatives to pile on.

I wish people were able to have a discussion without taking it personal, but I guess I'm asking too much.

I still hold by my claim that the devil you know is better than the devil you don't.

:thumbdown Condi on '08 fool. Repoublicans will have the first woman and black president in the White House in 2008.

i'm still undecided ... i don't like bush, but have never liked kerry ... i've joked on this guy for years, and it's scarry that he has a shot ... I have been forced to look at him with an open mind, mainly because I don't like W

this election is probably going to be either kerry or libertarian (for the second election in a row) ...... kerry has done little to make me want to back him, Bush has pissed all over my fiscally conservative beliefs along with adopting an intrusive domestic policy

I dunno ... seems like i get more jaded as the years go by ... i used to love politics, now it just kind of makes me sick

as for '08?! ... ABC (anything but clinton, hillary that is)

the non-bounce doesn't concern me much. media "experts" predicting 8 and 10 point swings were overshooting IMO, the undecided % is as small as its ever been, & conventions where people make safe vanilla speeches & don't have to answer questions or respond to opponents are pretty weak vehicles for getting an edge up on the other side. The debates would be a better measure I think, although even then they're often safe & stale.

There could be a large number of "hidden" undecided this year depending on how events unfold.

Turnout has historically been low in the US, there's a lot of people who might be convinced to turn out if they felt an immediate terrorist threat of some sort. This is one of the Kerry weaknesses - all the polling so far shows Dubbya to have a solid lead in handling terrorist threats.

Its conceivable that all the recent hoopla about the elevated alert level could favor Dubbya if something were actually to happen - the media downplaying, and Dem scoffing of this elevated alert status is basically betting that nothing happens. If something does pop, there's gonna be a lot of people wiping a lot of egg off their faces.

Of course any sort of significant WMD find in Iraq could torpedo Kerry down to McGovern levels.

496331

Umm, I don't know where you're coming from, because in recent polls for about a month, Kerry and Bush have been virtually tied on the matter of national security, with Kerry taking a slight lead.

Is it because he "won three Purple Hearts"? :D

Finding Osama would certainly give Bush a bump I would think.

496332

Not necessarily. This administration has had so many events happen at convenient times that I have become a more than a little suspicious. My gut feeling is that Osama is already in custody, but will be "captured" on October 15.

My gut feeling is that Osama is dead and buried by now. They are probably scrambling to find the body so they can put his cadaver on display by October...

Well he did get a 7 point jump in the Newsweek polls.

I think the best comparison for any change that might occur for Bush going into his convention and his post convention bounce are the indicators which show his approval rating still below 50% and the percentage of people who think the country is going in the wrong direction is still above 50%. This is not the same as Mondale or Dukakis because those were different situations. Mondale was not going up against a president with such low numbers and was not going up a oppostition so united. Dukakis was going up against a VP. The people get to know the VP the same way they do a challenger. People know Bush. I believe most peoples minds are made up.

Other factors are that Bush's economy is starting to hit a snag and oil prices continue to rise. Only one president has been reelected when oil prices were higher than when he started, Bill Clinton.

One problem could be matching the unity of the democratic party convention. Republicans are going to have more controversy since they will have to deal with the protestors, the division of moderates and conservatives(ie fiscal conservatives who shouldnt be too happy right now), and other unknown variables. And contrary to what capefish said, Bush is going to have to present himself rather than bash away at Kerry, which seems to be the primary operative now. Mark Shields wrote a good peice on this: http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/08/02/shields/index.html

And capefish, Kerry just attacked Bush and didnt present himself? The whole convention had very little Bush bashing. That even irritating some who wanted them to go for the jugular. Even conservatives say Kerry's speech was a good one.

when did bush all of a sudden become a great speaker?

if bush comes out with osama in late september/october..........

i am going to go nuts...cause I will know in my heart of hearts that they have had him for a long while now...and only just now 'released' him to the public.

that itself should cause the man to be tarred and feathered (bush that is)

So Bush is in a no win situation. What if they did capture Osama between now and the election? Is that not possible? Say he is captured the day before the election. What should the administration do? Do you honestly believe that if Osama was captured the news of his capture would not be leaked?

Let's pray that Osama is captured and you "go nuts." The world would be a safer place and I for one would be thankful.

Are Kerry backers rooting for Osama to be free until after the election?
