Posted July 3, 200321 yr I said this in tonite's game thread and I will repeat here: If the Marlins are seriously thinking Wild Card, they need to make a few minor deals to bolster their bench and bullpen... We need better hitters (Castro excepted) to come off the bench late in the game and do whatever it takes to get on base or score runs when called upon...Even tho Atlanta got blown out 20 to 1 last nite, Mordecai K'd looking TWICE!!!!...that totally is unacceptable...Trade him to TB to play with Ben Grieve so Lou can have someone else to yell at... We need more reliable relievers to get to Looper...I do not know why ALmanza and Tejera get as much relief time as they do and cough up runs..So what if they are lefties, they still suck...Put in someone who is a Remlinger/Stanton type who will give you innings, throw strikes, and get people out...You need some ppl who will make you believe that with the lead you have guys who will get you thru the 7th and 8th innings to have Looper close the door...We also need guys who will stop the opposition from scoring late if the Marlins are trailing by a run or 2 to keep them in the game... Its the later innings that are hurting the Fish and it comes down to bench and bullpen (OK, and Derrek Lee too..)...The team does not need to make big drastic changes, but some tightening is needed...
July 3, 200321 yr Agreed, we need a good bench hitter to supplement Castro, and we need a bullpen guy that can pitch many innings (like Phelps did tonight) and be consistent.

I think what hurts Lee's case is that Sea Bass is putting together a great year finally and Derrek hasn't really seemed to click yetafter how many seasons with the club...

You can if he was facing his first batter of the game, a lead-off hitter none the less, who has almost no power form the right side, and gave-up a HR, the lead, the game.
