Gold Glove for Luis..

Featured Replies

That's too bad.. I was hoping Sea Bass would get it.

Congrats to Luis!

I don't agree with that. Alex made plays nobody else in the league could. While Izturis' errors were lower, his level of play definitely wasn't on a 'different plain'.

Luis...congrats!!

but I must say that I am also disappointed that Alex did not get one.His plays were hilighted a lot this year, but what can you do?? :confused

Alex had way more web gems than Izturis. He made plays on balls that most SSs would never get close to.

Only his lowly BA kept him from consideration.

This has become more of an offensive award. Helton for instance isn't in the same category of fielding compared to DLee. Same thing with AJones and other outfielders. The voters showed little imagination in giving Maddux another award, when if they had watched Livan Hernandez could have saw that he was more deserving. And finally for AGone, what more does he need to do? He made more plays that shouldn't have been made this year than I thought was humanly possible. I sure hope the voters used lube because Sea Bass got cornholed.

Sea Bass was not robbed, Cesar was amazing and down the stretch Bass made a couple errors that made Iztu's % look that much better.

maybe next year.

Lou deserved it, awesome % and more range than any other potential gold glove possible player.

Sometimes it's making the easy plays that are important, not how many times you make the highlights on Baseball Tonight.

And I think it's an insult to the voters for you to assume that his low BA kept him from winning the award, when offense doesn't count here. I don't see any proof that was considered.....do you?

Offense gets attention. This is fact.

If not for this, why does DLee not win a GG out of the chute?

And Greene had alot more web gems than Gonzo and he isn't half the defensive player Gonzo is...

You can only evaluate players you haven't seen with players you've seen on the basis of statistics alone. You haven't seen enough of Izturis to even compare him with Gonzo, but you can see his stats.

The most important of which is Zone Range, in which Izturis crushed the competition. Fielding percentage is also looked at and he came in third...

Offense gets attention sure, but in gold glove voting? If this is true, then it's wrong.

MAYBE there was someone better than Lee? It IS a matter of opinion, after all. There's a reason that if it was up to this board, 3/4 of the Marlin infield would get a gold glove.

Lee wasn't all that great defensively this year, if anyone got robbed at first it was Albert

Seabass got robbed, but this will just make him play even harder next year.

No, he didn't. You guys just haven't seen Izturis - that guy is unreal. You could make a case for either him or Sea Bass.

It does. How else do you explain Derek Jeter winning a gold glove, when it's no secret the guy is one of the worst defensive SS in baseball.

Well, you explain it as ARod at third this year making him look much better because balls he (Jeter) usually boots are fielded by that new third baseman they have in the Bronx...

But yes, offense does factor into the gold-glove voting, which is unfortunate.

That's funny- his fielding pct. was better than Alex Gonzalez, who everyone is complaining DIDN'T win in the NL.

More importantly, his zone rating was worse than Gonzalez. Granted, this probably was Jeter's best defensive year, but he definitely didn't deserve it over the likes of Miguel Tejada or Jose Valentin (among others).

Umm... I wouldn't call Jeter the worst defensive shortstop in the AL. He's not that bad.

And I think A-Gon got robbed. There is nobody like him. I've watched Izturis.... A-Gon is better.

AJones? .... he is quite possibly the best defensive outfielder in the league, he is a step above Jim Edmonds in my opinion ... it's just the Edmonds makes those behinds the back catches look so freaking easy.

voters showed little imagination with Maddux? ... only the most intellingent pitcher to ever wear a freaking glove.... the guy is like a shortstop in a pitchers body, there is a reason why he has 12 or 14 GG

I think you just got cornholed
