November 7, 200421 yr McCain has been betrayed by his own party in the past, like when GWB launched a major smear campaign much like the "Swift Boat Vets" garbage during the 2000 Republican Primaries on him. As a result of those tactics, Bush won the nomination. McCain has the most common sense of any Republican in Washington.
November 7, 200421 yr John McCain is 68, so he'd be 72 in 2008 and 80 in 2016, so I doubt the nominate. Too bad though. I like him, out of all the others in that poll. I like Schwarzenegger, but who knows if they'd change the rules for him. I think it's stupid to call Colin Powell a democrat. Just because he "secretly" opposes what the Bush administration has done, that makes makes him the opposite of a republican? The democrats did the same with Wesley Clark during the primaries, calling him a republican, because he pointed out flaws in (or you could say attacked) other democrats. There can't be any opposition within a party?

November 7, 200421 yr John Mccain: Already hated by most republicans, can easily be painted as a person who simply goes over to each side when ever it's popular and a man of no real values(Basically right too, Biggest phoney you'll ever know and the fact that he's a camera whore) Rudy: Think The Relegious Right got mad at Bush in 00 for Drunken Driving when he was younger? What about a guy who's been divorsed numerous times and while Mayor was cheating on his wife with a women from my area and didn't even live in the mayor's house to be with his mistress. Yeah, that'll fly with them. The Republicans best choice to appease it's Conservative Base and the moderates is Lyndsey Graham. He's young but he's great with working with both sides(proven with his trip to Iraq with Senator Bidden). He's got some moderate views but enough conservative ones to pass with The Conservative Base and he has "Charm". He's a strong canidate for The GOP.

He's a strong canidate for The GOP. 610265[/snapback] imo, Lindsey Graham is one of the worst choices for republicans looking to appease their base (and not completely alienate their donors). A trial lawyer who outspokenly opposes tort reform simply will not fly with the pro-business and pro-doctor elements of the republican party. If you've watched any of bush's stump speeches this year, you'll notice that perhaps his biggest applause line comes when he mentions the need for liability reform. Republicans are crazy about tort reform. Personally, I think McCain would have been a good choice were he 8 years younger. While repubs might find him to be a bit of a maverick, he's still very pro-values and relatively pro-business. He'd also clean house in the general election (again, if he were younger) because he is viewed as heavily bipartisan . I happen to think Rudy would also clean house in the general election because of his iconic status, though he'd probably end up hurting the republican party's standing in the deep red states for future elections. Frist would be a great candidate for the party's base, but as has been mentioned, he has no personality, and I don't think he has much chance of winning in the general election, particularly if he goes up against someone with name recognition (e.g. hillary).

Could you inform me on some of the issues he's been "liberal" on? You can be liberal on some issues and still be a republican, especially the more social issues. Or at the most it doesn't necessarily make you a democrat.
