July 6, 200323 yr Today I just happen to tune in to WQAM. I heard Orlando talkin about keeping Lowell and Castillo as your core players. I agree to a point. A core player is not only a total team player but a great leader. Lowell I agree has turn into that player this year but Castillo IS NOT A CORE PLAYER. I'm not saying I wouldn't want him. I think of a core player as someone you couldn't live without. Look at the Braves, who are there core players? I can count 3 to 4 guys. Chipper Jones Andrew Jones, and those pitchers(before this season). You can't keep everybody and they done a great job in punging those holes throughout the years. AJ was turning into that type a player, that is the signature of your organization. I only see one on this team right now but that doesn't mean there won't be more. A Beckett, A Willis or A Cabrera have that chances to be great and a core player. The bottomline is can you replace Castillo? Did SF replace its former NL MVP(KENT)Yes so Yes

July 6, 200323 yr Castillo isnt a core player but it batting .314 with 5 homers....he is doing everything good except he isnt running much. Our core players have to be Lowell,Pierre and AJ when he gets healthy....

July 6, 200323 yr oops forgot Beckett...Loop is a great pitcher for sure, but I still dont think he has closing stuff. One of the lowest K/IP ratios out of closers.

July 6, 200323 yr I think the Core of the team is: Lowell, A.Gon, and Willis Cabs, Burnett, and Beckett could join them if they stay healthy and in Cabrera's case keep developing more.

July 6, 200323 yr I dont think Pudge,and Looper are core players, but they are valuable to the team. I think We will have to see how Red peforms for the rest of the year to see if he's a core player or not.

Who says you have to have power to be a core player? Without him we wouldnt of scored as many runs. He is our Leadoff hitter and if we didnt have him on base it would of been hard for us to be at .500. He has to be one of Core players.
July 6, 200323 yr I think Pierre is a toss-up. He's Mr. Consistant, and that's one of the best qualities you can find in any player, whether they consistantly bat . 250 or . 350, at least you know they will always do that. Same goes for Lowell and Castillo.
