Willis, AJ, and Beckett will be back. I would re-sign Valdez and one of these guys:

 

a) Orlando Hernandez

b) Woody Williams

c) John Leiber

You people are getting upset at who they are looking at without regard to what these people might fetch. If Rusch could be had cheaply he would be a great addition, you might as well complain that the Marlins aren't interested in Martinez because he's better than any of the pitchers out there...

 

Lima would be a nice addition for a million or so...

I'd like an good veteran in the vein of Lieber, Leiter or El Duque for a 1 or 2-year deal. They can teach Beckett, Burnett and Willis while improving their stock behind our defense and Pro Player. Then add a cheap swingman like Reyes or Oliver. We shouldn't be paying any 4th or 5th starter more than a million.

I agree with that. It lets our young pitching talent develop. I'd prefer a 1-year deal because I think Vargas, Olsen, Tankersley and Kensing could be ready by 2006. Heck I wouldn't be surprised if we see Vargas pitch next season. We'll have a little more leverage next season because our best talent will be much closer to the majors.

signing El Duque will also be a very popular move....

Couldn't Lieber or Hernandez possibly pitch out of the bullpen? If so, sign both.

Don't have to worry about Rusch.. sounds like the Cubs are about to re-sign him.

Anyone who thinks Steinbrenner will let a rejuvenated El Duque get away is insane. I see him staying with the Yankees, if only out of loyalty to a team that gave him his break back into the game (as well as into it the first time around).

Well... honestly, there is no way around getting starting pitching without doing something to the bullpen... but really... I do think, bullpen considered, O.Hernandez would be fine... because as far as injury risks go, Id still say Id worry more about Beckett's endurance or injury risks... so, if Im worried about anyones IP its Beckett's sure hes got great stuff... but maybe like Max Kellerman said once "there is a perceived value, and an actual value" of course, I would hate for something stupid to happen, like trading him and finally having him turn into the Nolan Ryan/Roger Clemens everyone expects

The Marlins will add a LH power bat this offseason and send Encarnacion packing, this will be a better lineup than the WS season team.

 

The Marlins will add a good (not Pavano-level) starter to the rotation either through trade or FA. This will be a comparable rotation to the WS year if Burnett and Beckett remain healthy, otherwise all bets are off.

 

The Marlins will have a legitimate closer. The bullpen is a question due to injury comebacks.

Why dont they call Lima?! Hed be awsome here. Pavs seems out of our league....

I suggested some days ago as that rumor made its way through the media and this board that it was nothing more than idle speculation by our dear friend Mr. Berardino ( :thumbdown ) going from one source to another and gaining credibility each time someone new mentioned it.

 

You'll note it never appeared on the Marlins website.

Neither had the interest for Dellucci, the likely departure of Redmond or a half-dozen other things now coming out.
