December 11, 200421 yr the first rounders should help alot for trade bait....like if the marlins offer someone Enc. and they reject we can come back with how about enc. and a first rounder.... 632300 Draft picks can't be traded Where would these draft picks be? Who would we be getting them from? 1 from Benitez 1 from Pavano 1 of our own Where do the other 2 come into play? 632306 Sandwich picks for Benitez and Pavano For the record, thanks for what you did while you were here, I'm glad you got your payday. Now I will root against you
December 11, 200421 yr Great news, lest all hope Carl pitches a no hitter against the red sox and leads the yankees to an aL pennant
December 11, 200421 yr Great news, lest all hope Carl pitches a no hitter against the red sox and leads the yankees to an aL pennant 632370 ...Let's also hope that Carl proves all of us "haters" right and shows that they paid for an ace, but didn't get near that quality.

With the Yankees offense behind Pavano, he could have easily been a 20 game winner here.....might have even won the Cy Young. I doubt he will have an ERA under 3.00 in the AL, but 20 wins isn't out of the realm of possibilities.
December 11, 200421 yr Great news, lest all hope Carl pitches a no hitter against the red sox and leads the yankees to an aL pennant 632370 Lets not! :thumbup But i do wish him the best and hopefully he pitches up to his contract.
December 11, 200421 yr Best of luck to him. Marlins cannot afford to be tied down with that kind of contract with someone who has only had one good year.
December 11, 200421 yr :headscratch Best of Luck Pavy! Those Red Sox are going to give him alot of trouble :o
December 11, 200421 yr I dont blame him for leaving for that offer they are giving him. But he should think about it a little more. Hey, he wants to win another ring with the big money.
December 11, 200421 yr Good luck to Carl Pavano. Atleast he didnt sign in the NL so we would have to face him. Lets just get a number 5 pitcher and we should be all set.
December 11, 200421 yr The guy hasn't signed with the Yankees yet, ok... or with any other team for that matter. So stop wishing him the best until the deal is signed and true. And I hope there is a way for the Marlins to keep him, even though I know is almost impossible; otherwise I don't think our rotation is that good as it seems to be even with the addition of Leiter...

December 11, 200421 yr While it's true that his deal is not yet official, it IS official that he won't be returning to the Marlins. He called Loria to decline the 3 year offer and let him know that he wasn't coming back next year.
December 11, 200421 yr He wanted to go home and be near his family, was offered a lot more money, has an extremely hungry for success owner(though there is two sides to this Pavs), and now has a pretty nice offense behind him. Thank you for giving the Marlins an adequate chance to bring you back Carl. Youll be missed.

December 11, 200421 yr With the Yankees and Mets giving out mega-bucks to Benson, Wright and Pavano, you can just hear Kevin Milwood and Matt Clement getting ready to ask for $9 mil per. And with Ortiz getting it, they'll get it. Seriously, what's going on this offseason? Teams lining up to overpay for mediocre pitching but shying away from productive bats (Beltran, Drew, Renteria, Magglio, Delgado, Sexon)
December 11, 200421 yr there paying for the pitching cause there isnt much around.... teams rather have the ortiz, clement, benson, wright, than having some rookie...
December 12, 200421 yr It is final now By Anthony Mormile SportsTicker Baseball Editor ANAHEIM, California - The New York Yankees, their pride challenged by the success of the rival Boston Red Sox, fired the biggest salvo yet of the winter meetings Saturday, agreeing to terms with free agent righthander Carl Pavano. According to Pavano's agent, Scott Shapiro, the 28-year-old righthander made the decision early Saturday morning. SportsTicker has learned the deal is worth $44 million over four years. The addition addresses one of the Yankees' shortcomings - reliable starting pitching. Pavano is coming off a breakout season in which he went 18-8 with a 3.00 ERA for the Florida Marlins. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?section=mlb&id=1944227
December 12, 200421 yr Atleast we lost him to an A.L. team. Guys, don't be so mad. Don't expect a team with a low payroll to be able to compete with a lot of other teams with higher payrolls.
