lolol, there was a recent poll im not sure which sourse,i tihnk possibly a college. but a large number of americans were polled and something like 55% chose creationalism.

Creation.

If evolution were true, I could grow a tail or an extra arm right now

Not unless you needed one.

I believe in creation because I can't fathom the beauty of nature came from a glob of cells.

Go to Sweden, and take note of how everyone looks. Then go to Nigeria and take note of how everyone looks. That's evolution, captain.

I'm gonna have to go with a mix of evolution and creation. The thought that the universe (which is infinite) came from nothing in the blink of an eye just seems absurd beyond comprehension.

something tells me you haven't taken biology yet.

Little bit of both.

Damn you may have just opened a can of worms. Adaptation to environment and evolution arent exactly the same. Are you saying that the people in sweden involved from the people in Nigeria, which would mean that the swedes are superior to the nigerians much in the same way that a salamander is superior to a trout?

Spoken like somoene who has never taken a biology class in his life.

WHOA!!! Where did this superiority stuff come from? Now, if your point is that Swedish people are superior to Nigerian people as far as being able to survive in the Swedish climate then, can you really argue with that? But, generally superior? I hope you're not trying to say that.

Adaptation is not exactly the same as evolution, but they are closely related in the same way as microeconomics and macroeconomics.

You misread my post. the comment that Fritz made was "Go to Sweden, and take note of how everyone looks. Then go to Nigeria and take note of how everyone looks. That's evolution, captain." Now I was asking him to clarify, does he mean that the swedes have adapted to colder climates or that the nigerians have adapted to warmer ones, or is he saying that swedes evolved from nigerians. In which case to evolve from somehting makes you a superior species. Humans evolved from monkeys b/c monkeys lacked something that humans the new species now have. So nigerians lacked protection from harsh climates so a more perfected human has evolved which can withstand those climates. That is very similar to the Aryan race arguments in Mein Kampf.

So nigerians lacked protection from harsh climates so a more perfected human has evolved which can withstand those climates.

At the same time, they lost the ability to withstand the Nigerian climates.

Placed within context it's not a bad or misleading argument. Swedes are more perfected for harsh Scandinavian climates, but Nigerians are more perfected for harsh African climates. The problem is when you're arguing that one is "better" than the other completely out of context and using it in a general sense.

The problem is that I'm not arguing that. I'm asking for clarification on a point and saying that something evlved from something else is a biological superiority argument. And if Fritz is someone who agrees with the African motherland theory then the swedes evolution from the nigerians is a hard hitting biological superiority argument similar to what hitler advocated

Why is the swedes evolution from the nigerians a "biological superiority" argument? Hitler advocated inherent superiority, not conditional superiority.

Ok let me start over b/c youve misinterpreted me from the beginning. What Im saying is that the comment that Fritz made about nigerians and swedes can be interpreted as an inherent biological superiority argument which states that swedes are a perfected form of nigerians. Once you (fish fry) made the point that we're talking about adaptations to environment, then it cna no longer be interpreted the way i stated. But Frtiz's argument on its own can

Not unless you want to interpret it that way. I found no such argument in what Fritz was saying. It was perfectly valid and what is being taught in many history and anthropology classes - the first humans came from Africa and the characteristics of Scandanavians evolved from humans adapting to the harsh climates of the north. Evolution isn't always about creating inherently superior beings. It's about creating superior beings for the given environment in which those beings exist. Your interpretation is taking the environment completely out of it (which is equivalent to Hitler's "master race" stance), and while I know you weren't trying to argue for that; I just had trouble understanding how you came to that conclusion.

Exactly what I was trying to say. I'm not implying that Scandinavians are superior to blacks (why would I as a half-black with Scandinavian blood?) only saying that they evolved to more suitably fit their environment.

This is a crazy argument. Nobody claimed Swedes were "superior" to Nigerians. If you are trying to claim that Swedes have evolved from Nigerians, you are making a major assumption that the first Homo sapiens came out of Africa - which has yet to be proven.

If you want to see evolution on speed - check out the history of a couple of viruses or strains of Pneumonia. I'm sure the CDC would be an excellent source. In my mind, there is no question that evolution exists. It happens. You can document it - especially with diseases.

I am also of the opinion that one does not necessarily negate the other. Afterall, where did that "stuff" come from anyway?
