July 10, 200323 yr Ed knows people.... and Kevin Youkilis is a 1b/3b oh, i forget that a lot of pepole on this forum are older....im still in college so i dont know anyone that would know cool stuff like trade rumors...
July 10, 200323 yr If he plays 1B, and we acquired him, it would allow us to trade Lee for pitching to replace Penny...
July 10, 200323 yr I don't think Youkilis (sp?) has played much first this year in Portland... but I don't follow them anymore. Here's his stats, per seadogs.com: Stats Portland Sea Dogs (47- 39) statistics through 7/09/03 PLAYER AVG G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS SLG OBP E Youkilis, Kevin,3B .319 80 263 61 84 19 0 4 29 71 35 6 0 .437 .482 18
July 10, 200323 yr 18 errors is a lot... :confused Yea, but that pretty . 482 On base percentage makes you forget all about that... :w00t
July 10, 200323 yr Yeah but what would we do about our starting rotation, I'd hate to see Phelps go back into the rotation we need him in the bullpen.
July 10, 200323 yr Youk plays mostly 3B. Sanchez would replace Castillo for you guys next year. I'd pick Sanchez If I were the Fish...he fits a need. Youk does not. oh and that trade is a steal for you guys....the Sox/Dodgers had apparently worked out a Perez for Nixon deal but the Dodgers backed out so Nixon appears to be available and Theo wants a starter who is still young.
July 10, 200323 yr Sanchez would replace Castillo for you guys next year. i would take Hooper over sanchez...i dont like his numbers or anything :unsure : Youk, might take over for Derrek Lee at first
July 10, 200323 yr you would take Hooper over Sanchez? Sanchez is batting like .198 in the Majors this year, when he's played...i know he has a better average than Hooper in the Minors...but i think Hooper has more potentential to do better in the Majors, than Sanchez...considering his ST numbers , also the Marlins cant take Nixon..Youkilis AND sanchez, If they do the trade they most likely will get Nixon and Youkilis
July 11, 200323 yr 2. Kevin Youkilis - 3B/1B - DOB: 3/15/79 - ETA: 2004 Notes: 2002 was very, very good for Mr. Youkilis. He hit .344 with a .462 OBP and a .500 SLG in AA-Trenton and instantly shot up the depth charts with the takeover of the new statistically-oriented regime. Ten years ago Bill James would have written about how a prospect like Youkilis with unbelievable plate discipline deserves a shot. Now, James may play a part in giving him a chance. Youkilis won't give you much in the way of power or defense (may see more time at first base or DH than third), but he'll hit for solid average and be a permanent fixture on base. If Hillenbrand is traded, Youkilis may see a shot at the starting job before the 2003 season is over. he is a sabermetrics dream, ie Billy Beane would love him Beane is obsessed with Kevin Youkilis. In "Moneyball" Beane is willing to do almost anything to get Youkilis. As Ramp said he is a Sabremetrics dream. My comments regarding Tejada & Zito were "tongue in cheek." However, if Theo was willing to give Youkilis up would could parlay him into something of greater value due to Beane's fascination with him. I don't think Theo would trade him to Oakland directly!
July 11, 200323 yr Ah! Yes thats the Left Handed bat we have been looking for this past Off Season. He would be very good and can replace Hollandsworth and maybe share the Outfield spot of Miguel Cabrera. I like this deal. Freddie Sanchez isnt a bad hitter anyways and Penny has been struggling but since WE arent going to fall out of contention i dont see it happening. So many teams want penny and are willing to give up good prospects and players!
July 11, 200323 yr Ah! Yes thats the Left Handed bat we have been looking for this past Off Season. He would be very good and can replace Hollandsworth and maybe share the Outfield spot of Miguel Cabrera. why would you have Nixon and Cabs share time?
July 11, 200323 yr why would you have Nixon and Cabs share time? So what do we do with cabrera? Send him down...no way.
July 11, 200323 yr FishFan, I'm not picking on you, just using your post to make my point PROMISE, SMOMISE...I WANT TO WIN NOW ! 2004 is a million years from now. Right on!
July 11, 200323 yr So we gain Trot...which is nice, but his numbers are inflated some from Fenway...and we get an awesome prospect in Youk...who replaces Penny?
July 11, 200323 yr Lets say we trade Penny, and I am all for trading that under-achieving, pouting, loser. Say we get Nixon and Youkilis. First off, is Youkilis ready for 1B at the big league level? Probably not. Then what? We already have Ad Gon and Stokes lined up for 1B (they need some more time...). And putting Youkilis in OF only puts him behind Cabrera, Encarnacion, Pierre and the newly-acquired Nixon. We may never see Youk... Also, like Wildcard suggested, we have D Lee to trade too if we want. We can acquire Conine, plop him at first. But if we deal Penny, we need to replace the starter we are losing, and to trade pitching for hitting right now is too risky. I think we need to consolidate hitting talent for hitting, and if we deal pitching it has to be an improvement over what is departing - and that is unlikely to happen since every team needs more pitching. Penny, as much as I cant stand that big ol softy, is going to chew up innings and we need him now. But if we do trade him, we better make someone pay big for him because Penny is young and talented and that can get you a lot on the market. Nixon does not wow me, sorry. Never has, so I'll pass on this deal.

But you probably haven't been reading earlier posts, Billy Beane would giz his pants to have Youkilis and we'll give it to him at a nice price
