alright thats wat i like to hear :thumbup

Am I foolish for putting the name of another power hitting left hander who can play 1b and RF out there?

Jeromy Burnitz anyone? He can probably be had for 4-5 million a year.

boo!!!!!!!!!!!! burnitz no way :thumbdown :ban :ban

I would have been happy with Dellucci or someone else but as far as I'm concerned I want to see more lefty bats and a more balanced lineup.

Burnitz is certainly not the optimum guy but he has consistently hit 30 HR wherever he's played, and his defense is of major league caliber. Sure he strikes out way too much but if continues to have difficulty finding a home I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a good look from the FO, but after we sign Delgado.

He's said a few times he'll retire if he can't play on the West Coast.

Magglio won't happen: He's not lefty, and his agent is Scott Boras,

Burnitz's road numbers speak for themselves.

I agree... it's Delgado or no one. Maybe John Olerud in a much lesser role.

He will turn 31 before the start of the baseball season.

Yes, Magglio is right handed. So! Yeah sure in an ideal world the big hitter we add would be a lefty. It has been said many times on this board that we won a world series with a righty loaded line-up.

Magglio is a great hitter and would put up huge numbers hitting at the teal tower. He lives down here. Boras will know that there is money to spend here. We will be the best contending team with a spot for him. Three years will not be an issue with magglio and we probably could sign him for 3 years $30 million.

definitely dont want to sign him to a multi year contract till he proves he can play. offer him 1 year 8-10 million backloaded. take it or leave it. no one is sure if he will return to form after his injury

It's also worth noting that Burnitz played for Colorado and he hit .322 at home and .244 on the road.

Yeah but he also had a OBP of .327 and a slugging of .448 for a total of .775. He hit 13 HRs in 270 road ABs. Those numbers are better than Juan Encarnacian and his 16 HRs in nearly 500 ABs.

Ive heard that he was in negotiations with the Astros but that that fell through and now the DRays, Pirates, and Cubs were all interested along with the Dbacks. But you may be right as Im basing this on ESPN and theyre often wrong.

Id much rather have Magglio of course. This is under the assumption that we dont go after anyone else. I dont think the front office would go after Magglio though because the only reason they are willing to go after Delgado is they badly want his left handed power bat since it is perfect for us. I agree that all right handed lineup works fine but Im not sure if the front office wants to pay unless its for something special, hence the special money.

Some of you guys are putting too much emphasis on the fact that Ordonez is a right-handed bat meaning he won't hit right-handed pitching as well which is completely wrong.

Career against RHP: .310 / 50 HR / 160 RBI (803 AB)

Career against LHP: .306 / 137 HR / 543 RBI (3004 AB)

In actuality, Ordonez hits better against righties but he is a huge risk and I hope that Boras is not demanding outrageous amounts of money for him. To be honest, he did the right thing for Ordonez by waiting for all other marquee power free agents to be off the market until he made his move. Teams will be in desperation by then so you might see some team foolish enough to pay him $10+ million for a few years when they only wanted to hand out a one-year/ $8 million deal.

You guys do know you are not getting Delgado, right? :D

I'd guess Ordonez is looking for a 4/40... If the Cubs get rid of Sosa, I think they'll land him.. If not, I think Balitmore gets him. I'd like to make a run at him, if he gets a clean bill of health, because he is a VERY impressive player.

Magglio wont sign for one year most likely. He's a great player, but hes also injury prone. My guess is that Boras wants a long term deal so just in case injuries continue to plague him he can have guaranteed money. A one year deal is risky b/c lack of production can cause him to not command as much money next offseason as he would this offseason. Anyway, I agree with f_m about Burnitz. He adds power to our lineup and would solidify our team. Burnitz for a one year deal or magglio for a one year deal. no more. Other than that, the team is ready to go.

We can't sign Magglio because Boras is his agent so he'll never come here.

Burnitz can only hit if he's playing in Coors.

It really is Delgado or wait till 2006.
