News about mondays exhibition game

Fish bites: The Marlins agreed to terms with relievers Nate Bump, Ben Howard and Hagerty on Monday. Miguel Cabrera is the lone unsigned player. ... In Monday's intrasquad game, Hagerty had a rough outing, hitting a batter and walking four straight without recording an out. The team isn't too concerned because the tall lefty hadn't faced batters in months and he is rebounding from Tommy John surgery. ... Joe Dillon belted a two-run homer off John Riedling and Derek Wathan homered off Bump.

:lol

Frisaro and MLB.com are usually a day or two behind the beat reporters for the three South Florida papers.

And forget about any sort of analysis. Berardino, Capozzi, and Baxter provide far more interesting critiques of the team.

Wow Hagerty hit a batter then walked four straight batters...a little struggling hopefully he can get that control thing down.

It doesn't really matter what Bump does this Spring because I just can't see him making this team...and not sure or not but I think he is out of options so this spring could be last time we see Nate Bump in Marlin uniform :(

It's nice to see that our bullpen guys are doing great? :whistle

That may be a good thing for Nate. Hook on with a team with taller infield grass and an opening on the squad.

Also, watch out for Wathan. Switch-hitting super utilityman with pop in his bat and speed in his legs. Hope he gets a shot!

:lol

I've found it to be the exact opposite.

Both Das and RFerry were misinformed by an errant poster.

And for the record, it's usually Frisaro who breaks news, albeit because he can post at anytime day or night and the beat reporters post once a day. More times than not the first place you'll find breaking Marlins news is at the Marlins' website before it hits the newspapers or the broadcast media. Occassionally Steve Wine, the South Florida AP reporter will scoop everyone but it's never insightful and often vague.

The game you're talking about took place TODAY. Yesterday was a rain-out.

If anyone is at fault, it's the author of this thread who doesn't know what day it is.

Maybe that's because I look more for transaction news and interesting quotes, two things Frisaro and MLB.com tend to avoid.

RFerry, how can you say that?

Frisaro's pieces are almost always filled with quotes from players, the front office or manager/coaches.

I would agree that the Marlins/MLB news seldom varies from the who-what-where and seldom deals with the why and how, but that's because he (Frisaro) is a reporter and not engaged to opine. But then again neither are Baxter or Carpozzi. Berardino is a columnist who is paid to give his opinion.

And as for transaction news MLB covers every transaction.

sorry guys, i did get the date mixed up , it was todays exhibiton game...sorry guys......I changed it

No plain face. Hitters are ahead of the pitchers right now. The pitchers' stuff just isn't very crisp right now. It's no big deal. Armando had an ERA over 5 in spring training last year... look how he turned out. :plain

I've always found more interesting quotes in the dailies. More controversial quotes that shed light on the true view of the team. Quotes from all players and coaches. Frisaro's game stories and analysia are just vanilla compared to the others. Although Frisaro has plenty of space to tell some very good human interest stories.

I guess if what you're looking for is the Herald opining that a Loria inspired sign calling him an MVP meant he was a "Most Vile Parasite" or Clark Soenser and Kevin Baxter suggesting to baseball fans while supposedly cover the day to day coverage of games that they not bother to go to Marlins games because the Fish were about to pack up and move out of town under the guise of "reporting" is what you're looking for, then the Miami Herald is the paper for you.

Just for the record Benitez had an ERA of 2.03 last spring.

My bad... you're right. I must have been thinking of Josh Beckett.

Wow.

:angel

I see Nate hasnt changed....he might as well get his nameplate ready for AAA because i don't want him in the majors.

Oh, Nate's going back to AAA, but it won't be only because his performance. It will be his contract status and that other Reidling, Jones, Perisho and others.
