March 3, 200521 yr "I am opposed to spending public dollars for private, for-profit sports franchises," she said. "This year alone, the Florida Marlins picked up Carlos Delgado and agreed to pay him $52 million over four years, half the cost of a retractable roof. Something is out of whack." http://www.palmbeachpost.com/marlins/conte...lstad_0302.html the only thing out of whack is this lady
March 3, 200521 yr whenever anybody brings up this argument i laugh how do you keep the team here and get a stadium if it's not competitive???????
March 3, 200521 yr Under the agreement, the county could place a lien on the franchise to pay off debts if the Marlins defaulted ? meaning taxpayers would take over ownership of the club. I almost want to see this happen just out of morbid curiousity.
March 3, 200521 yr Thats mighty smart thinking. Let the team not spend a dime so when they start to play bad, people will stop showing up. And when nobody shows up, nobody in their right mind when give this team a dime to build a stadium and stay here. And the fate of decisions for Miami-Dade county rest on this lady's shoulders??
March 3, 200521 yr She is an obstructionist for anything that does not give her district the lion's share. She has been doing this since Andrew. She is one of those responsible for the infamous South Dade Busway. Such a smart use of tax dollars.
March 3, 200521 yr how is she continually elected. 700452 no real challenge is made. plus after Andrew she walked on water to most of the people in her district.
March 3, 200521 yr This is the result of an uninformed and illogical person who has never seen a sports event in her life...
March 3, 200521 yr Well someone should spread the word in her district and get somebody with enough co-jones to give her a real run for her office. And do alittle spreading of the word to get her out of there as well. :whistle
March 3, 200521 yr Somebody loan this lady a clue. 700538 Even if you gave her one, she probably wouldn't know what to do with it.
March 3, 200521 yr Does it even matter anymore what this lady thinks? Didn't Miami-Dade already approve the stadium?
March 3, 200521 yr why is she retarded? it's a totally legitimate opinion. i don't agree with it necessarily but that doesn't mean she's a joke. question: if the marlins hadn't gone out & gotten Delgado, we would still have gone into the season thinking we had at least a fair chance at the postseason, no? and let's just say for arguments sake that Loria threw an extra 50 million or so into the stadium instead of hoping the state gives them 60 mill in tax rebates. So we'd still had a competitive team plus a big chunk of the stadium money. Again I disagree with her, but calling her names is ridiculous.
March 3, 200521 yr She is my commissioner, so I e-mailed her telling her how disapointed I was and that I would not vote for her in the future...

Again I disagree with her, but calling her names is ridiculous. 700576 but for her to say something is out of whack. in all realities, how optimisitic could you really be without delgado. i mean did they have a good team sure. but theres a complete difference between that 52 million dollars and the 30 they're asking for. in additon. delgado's only getting 4.5 this year and will get 17 when the stadium opens... now is it me or does the signing prove that they're anticipating becoming a large revenue team once they get the stadium? i think so.
March 3, 200521 yr Since other have said she has always looked out for her district I guess she does not see how losing county money helps her district, so she has decided it is best for her and her district to turn the deal down. So her arguement is valid in that case. Unless you want to argue that looking out for your constituency is a bad thing to do.
March 4, 200521 yr A lot of Delgado's contract will be re-paid by increased attendance and market opportunities.
March 4, 200521 yr Katy is being a BUNT. Use your imagination. There is whats good for your district and the greater good of the county. Having a state of the art baseball stadium with a competative baseball team is prestigous for the county. Im wondering if anyone could find out if our lovely friend Katy voted for the Performing Arts Center.

She might have voted for it and then smacked it down in public later.
March 5, 200521 yr A lot of Delgado's contract will be re-paid by increased attendance and market opportunities. 701353 That remains to be seen. I think it will, but that's only our opinion.
