His act is tired.

Barry needs to leave the game of baseball.... seriously.

Bonds on missing the season: "Maybe"ESPN.com news services

A dejected Barry Bonds said Tuesday that there's a chance he might not return this season because of multiple knee surgeries.

"Right now I'm just going to try to rehab myself back to, I don't know, hopefully next season, hopefully middle of the season. I don't know," Bonds said. "Right now I'm just gonna take things slow. I feel bad for the guys because I want to be out there for them."

When asked directly if he said he might not be back until mid-season or next season, Bonds answered, "Maybe. I told you that before I left, remember? You thought I was joking."

Bonds arrived on crutches at spring camp Tuesday, bringing his son, Nikolai, to meet with members of the media.

While Bonds was defiant and confrontational during his first press conference of the spring Feb. 22, he was despondent Tuesday, using the word "tired" 14 times during his approximate 10-minutes session.

"I really don't have much to say anymore," Bonds said. "My son and I just going to enjoy life. My family's tired. You guys [the media] wanted to hurt me bad enough, you finally got there.

"You wanted me to jump off the bridge, I finally have jumped. You wanted the bring me down, you've finally brought me and my family down. Finally done it. From everybody, all of you. So now go pick a different person. I'm done. Do the best I can, that's about it."

Asked if there was something specific he was talking about Bonds said, "Inner hurt, physical, mentally. Done. I'm mentally drained. I'm tired of my kids crying. Tired"

Bonds originally underwent knee surgery on Jan. 31. Four days later he accidentally hit his knee on a table at SBC Park in San Francisco and the knee had periods of swelling. An MRI last week revealed further tears in the knee.

Conte said there was no way of knowing whether the incident on Feb. 4 caused further damage.

"And we don't care," Conte said. "We're starting with a clean slate. We'll try to get it right."

Bonds begins the season third on the career homers list with 703, trailing Babe Ruth (714) and Hank Aaron (755).

I feel sorry for the Giants, but WTF does having an injury and surgery have to do with the media getting Bonds? is this guy delusional?

Hahaha, Barroids possibly done the entire season? Someone start a Mays24Bonds25 suicide watch.

Bonds looked horrible. He wasn't his defiant self.

The home run record might be safe, after all.

God works in mysterious ways.

all i gotta say i SO LONG LOSER hope u never come back u cheater.......by the way where is maysbonds??? :shifty :shifty

f***. This is not how the best player of this generation needs to be going out.

And to all you haters who will respond, or at least think, that this is what he deserves and such...you're gay.

Of course, he's probably just being Barry and will be back in mid-May and still win the batting title.

Hopefully Balco Bonds won't come back, and the important records will be safe.

Unfortunately the single-season home run record will never be the same.

Oh come on Ramp. MLB's pathetic steroid testing policy is a joke... The media is the one trying to clean up basebal and SHOULD be all over these guys.. The media policy is what is working.. not the MLB testing policy. Bonds deserves all of it. How nieve does he think we are? Seriously?! He's still denying it? The media should be and IS all over him and they should continue to be all over EVERY mlb player that is connected with steroids until this game is BACK to where it should be.

:notworthy

Here are some scary statistics for you guys:

Barry Bonds: Average home runs per season

-1986-1999: 31.8

-2000-2004:51.8

Looks suspicious to me, especially since the 2000-2004 period would usually be when many players decline in ability.

MLB's pathetic steroid testing policy is a joke... Bonds deserves all of it.717988[/snapback]

Because he wrote the steroid testing policy?

Bonds is the best player of all time, and I'm hoping to see him come back in mid-May; prove all the nay-sayers wrong, and shatter Aaron's record.

I know I use this every time, but if some scum-bag reporter can get ahold of Bonds' grand-jury testimony (which is meant to be confidential) don't you think it's possible that they also got a hold of Bonds' drug test that he took last season? Or maybe they did and it turned up clean, and afterall, that doesn't sell any papers, does it? And if you say "that doesn't prove anything" then baseball doesn't need a drug-testing system, you've already made up your mind regardless of the facts...

Conveniently dissected my post. Way to go.

Bonds really needs to leave the game of baseball before he ruins it anymore.

What I want to know is: is this a baseball problem or a legal problem? People seem to confuse the two things. Steroids are illegal without a perscription, it's law enforcement's place to prosecute them. Unfortunetly, much as the case in the rest of life, law enforcement isn't too interesting in subjecting the rich and powerful to the same justice you or I might have to face. Now who's problem is that? It's not MLB's. It's not MLBPA's. Employers and unions are not required to report the crimes their employees commit on the job.

Yeah, it's unethical, it's illegal, but it's not baseball's problem. And it's not baseball's job to take a stand against steroids to protect the records you so foolishly still believe have substance in spite of all the changes baseball has gone through. If it was, they'd be correct in placing an asterisk next to every single record explaining the era and circmstances that it was accomplished in. Including one next to Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Barry Bonds and the rest of baseball's greats.

I'll say it again.. he's trying to make us feel sorry for him and I sure as hell don't feel sorry for him. I applaud the media for being all over him. They're the ones who are calling out the idiots that take steroids. I hope they keep it up.

sucks for barry.

great player. would of gone down as one of the greatest even without steroids.

this only leaves the 'clout' of barry not as great as it should have been.

would of challenged williams and musial as the greatest left fielder ever even without steroids.
