May 10, 200521 yr My thoughts are with many of the Marlins fans as no way. Beckett's talents rival that of almost any pitcher in the majors and he is still learning how to "pitch" and stay healthy. While Dunn rivals all power this side of Bonds, he still is not a great player in almost any other way. However, I am stil curious as to what the Reds' fans have responded to this. Can anyone summarize or copy and paste their thoughts? 768900 Just like us, they're quite mixed, but they tend to want Beckett more than Dunn because they are in serious need of a staff ace.
May 10, 200521 yr Let's play fantasy baseball NO to Beckett how bout Lowell and a pitcher( fill in the blank) for Dunn move Miggy back to 3B.
May 10, 200521 yr We need to show a bit more patience with Lowell. He is bound to break out of his slump soon.
May 10, 200521 yr We need to show a bit more patience with Lowell. He is bound to break out of his slump soon. 768946 I'm not saying this b/c of Mike's early season slump. I'm just saying would you rather have a Lowell or a Dunn in the line-up
May 10, 200521 yr Beckett for Adam Dunn? No thanks The only position player I'd consider dealing Beckett for is Mark Teixeira -- and even then -- It's tough to deal away a pitcher like Beckett for anyone.
May 10, 200521 yr You can take Al Leiter for Dunn :| 768810 Worked in MVP 05 with fair traded on :thumbup
May 10, 200521 yr The Marlins need to keep the rotation Willis, Burnett, Leiter, Moehler, Bump/other doesn't look that impressive Pitching wins championships, guys who strike out a lot aren't as vital as clutch hitters like Pierre when it comes to the playoffs.
May 11, 200521 yr I will never trade Dunn for Beckett. Dunn is a strikeout machine, Beckett is young and already a good solid pitcher. Pitching owns Hitting.
May 11, 200521 yr I dont think the arguments can be strong either way. Some of you guys vastly underrate Dunn as a hitter. He certainly makes up for his Ks with his ability to walk. And not only is he on pace to hit 41 home runs but he is on pace to chip in 51 doubles. Those are unquestionably sick numbers. With the end of the power era and a return to the pitching era, Dunn could end up being the premier power hitter in the league. Guys like that change the course of a game with one swing of the bat. Conversley, the only way people can justify the trade is to downgrade the value of Beckett. The best argument for this is that Beckett simply cannot stay healthy throughout the course of hte year. But Schilling was much worse early in his career and I think Josh is finally learning to listen to the trainers. He is much more humble this year than last. The fact that he is fully developing into a pitcher and not a thrower makes him way too valuable. So in the end I think it becomes a wash for either side. That side, since we have already filled out our power hole, there is really no reason to do the trade. I just dont see how the downgrade in pitching could be less than the upgrade in offense. Lets face it. Either we have a sick pitching staff, which we do now, or we have a sick lineup.
May 11, 200521 yr assuming there was room for Adam Dunn somewhere would you trade Beckett for Dunn? thats what I meant... I realize there isnt room for him 768789 are you still pimping that trade? pitching > hitting. 768828 pimping what trade? I just thought some healthy baseball discussion was nice for a change next time I wont say a word :thumbup
May 11, 200521 yr Even if we had a need at LF RF, and 1B I wouldnt do it Beckett is going to be one of the best pitchers in baseball for years to come Dunn is a 260 hitter that knocks 40 out a year
May 11, 200521 yr This debate happens atleast once a month. I am just glad to see most of the board is supporting JB a lot more. It seemed like people were more open to the idea of trading JB. That was until they noticed how awesome JB has been pitching...remember that (PITCHING > Hitting) always wins.
May 11, 200521 yr No, I would not trade Josh Beckett for Adam Dunn. I'd rather have someone who has had 9 wins each of the last 2 seasons despite injuries, and who has 5 wins already thus far, then someone who has never hit .270
May 11, 200521 yr Both are capable of registering a lot of strikeouts in their own way. How bout we go back to when Beckett was drafted. If the Devil Rays hadn't taken Josh Hamilton with their first pick, we would never have gotten Beckett. Beckett dyed his hair blond that summer and the D Rays were turned off by that approach. The D Rays ended up wasting a lot of money on Hamilton.
