Contact lenses

I have been thinking about getting contacts. Can anyone tell me how they feel after you have them on? Are they really a bother? etc etc

I've had them for almost 10 years now. I can tell you that when I first got them and in my eyes, they did feel a little strange. Your eye is trying to reject a foreign object basically and it does feel strange at first. But I can honestly tell you that give it a day or two and you won't feel a thing.

And they really aren't a bother once you get used to it. Only bad thing is if a eye lash or some gunk falls in your eye, it will irritate the heck out of you until you take it off. I think you'll be okay though :)

After you get past the initial struggles, they're fine.

Only problem I have is whenever i rub my eye (which i do a lot), it sometimes gets displaced. I like them a lot though, a lot better than glasses, especially for athletics (which is why i got them)

Also Miri, if you want to take a nap, I highly recommend that you take them off. Its recommended that you take them off before you go to bed at night, but you'll be surprised how quickly your eyes can get irritated by taking a quick 30 minute or so nap.

After you put them on, it's like you're wearing nothing unless the contacts are dirty. First time, I had them. It took me forever to put them on, now it's just an everyday thing. And it's way clearer than glasses.

Always take them off when you sleep or even a short nap. It'll dry up, and might cause alittle pain. It'll be hard to take off, you can use eye drops for that.

I have very dry eyes as it is and work at a job where I spend all day staring at a computer

contacts iritate me to some degree .... i do prefer them though, they are much clearer than the haze of glasses

i just wish I could comfortably wear them more than 30% of the time

I just got contacts last week and I love them. It may take a while to get the hang of putting them in (the first day or two, it took me about 20 minutes of trying to get them in), but taking them out is easy. I can barely feel them now. The first two days were the weirdest, but youre supposed to gradually increase the amount of time that you have them in so that your eyes can get used to them--I did that and I was fine. I was told to never fall asleep with them in, and that as long as you are good about keeping them clean you shouldn't have any problems at all.

I went back for a checkup and my vision with the contacts is actually better than it is with my glasses now. The weirdest thing for me was just getting used to the idea that I could see without glasses on my face.

Good to know. What brands have you used and which ones do you think are the best?

Also, I have miopia, so I get a lot of headaches. I get them almost everyday. Is anyone the same way and after getting contacts, have you noticed less headaches?

Miri, about the brands. Everyone uses difference brands because everyone's eyes has different sizes. The optometrist will recommend you a brand.

If you have to wear toric lenses, it'll be expesive. 2-3 times more.

I use Focus monthly, it's a good brand. I've been using it for 3 years.

Miri I started using contacts in 6th Grade. For the first week or two, leave 45 minutes extra in your get-up routine to install them properly so they do not get lost in your eye. Nothing like rushing late because your contact got lost in the eye.

Be careful of too much use and NEVER SLEEP WITH THEM!

Always carry your glasses with you. Always carry you case and solution. Never use them when cleaning or near chemicals.

I haven't used them for 2 years due to my science classes. Chemicals and contacts don't always mix.

If you get irritated by them, remove the most irritable one last. Then wash them out and reinstall.

Just some tips from my experiences.

Miri I have the same thing and sometimes I experience headaches almost daily and other times go through periods when I don't experience them at all. Best thing you can do is to have a pair of glasses handy and take off your contacts when you do get the headaches.

Also, NEVER wear the contacts past what the optometrist says. You will not believe how dirty these contacts get after wearing them for two weeks to a month and they can really hurt your eyes if you keep them on for too long.

I have astigmatism which can actually see contacts give me a headache.

Just keep them clean and follow all the rules your eye doc tells you to.

Just put mine on. If you are offered the Johnson and Johnson Soft Lenses those are the ones I prefer. They slide in well and are clear.

So they're really not that bad huh? I was always afraid of them because I have heard so many horror stories like people getting them stuck in their eye somewhere.

I had one stuck behind my eye lid for 3 days. I was scared to death and didn't use them until it came out. Came out while I was swimming.

Ouch. Not fun. I guess the only way it can get up there is if you rub your eye or something, huh?

Also, I would guess that when you shower you need to remove your contacts right? Also, you should definitely remove them when you go to the beach or something.

I never take off my contacts when I shower.

It's people who put things in your head, if they never told you about the lens getting stuck behind your eyes. You would never worry about that.

No you should be okay when you take a shower, swim, etc. Its just when you sleep since your eye lids are always closed.

wow u guys really freak out over nothing.

contacts are the easiest thing ever. i've had them since 7th grade now sophomore in college. like they said once u learn to put them in theres nothing to it, i never had to adjust or anything, now the lenses aer soft and some of them they have now u can sleep in and some u cant. its not going to kill you if u sleep in them although your eyes will be irritated in the morning just take them out for a couple minutes in solutiona nd rub them and you'll be fine. if u nap in them yo're not going to die either if u sleep for 30 minutes nothing will happen, if its a little longer just rub ur eyes when u wake up and blink a lot and youll be okay in a minute. defintely get them defintely, i'vve been able to take them out and put them in in the complete darkness.

The person who admitted you into college should be slapped...

first time i put them in...took me something like an hour.

once you figure it out, its a piece of cake.

get disposable ones for sure. i sleep in mine all the time, supposed to take em out daily, but the hell with it, make that once a week.

contacts make life easier as far as i'm concerned and gave me added confidence which is always a good thing.
