Posted May 27, 200519 yr Is not ready. Don't treat him like Logan Kensing as your personal board whipping boy. He is very clearly not even close to being a major league pitcher. He can't even drink legally yet. In other news, was Frank Castillo really that much better than any of the others would have been?
May 27, 200519 yr This is disconcerting and I just hope the kid doesnt get too messed up in the head...he really needs to either buckle down or come out soon because I fear for his future.
May 27, 200519 yr How long was the rain delay? If people are taking Leiter off the hook for sitting through a delay and going out afterward, we gotta do the same for Castillo, don't we?
May 27, 200519 yr The entire pitching the past two nights has been horrible. Batting practice for the Phillies and Mets. If that is the best the Marlins minor league teams have to offer, it looks like we are in for a long year. Where Have All The Pitchers Gone? Looks like next chance for a win may be Saturday with Willis. :banghead
May 27, 200519 yr Simply put, anybody who still thinks that trading for Danny Graves is a bad idea because of his ERA, can tune in to Fox Sports and see the beating we are getting when we are forced to user a journeyman and a baby face pitcher who still hasn't grown a mustache against the Mets. Specially the day before we have to face Pedro Martinez. You can count this series in the loss column. I just hope that Dontrelle pitches the way he has been pitching on Saturday and we can savage one game. Because thinking that Moehler may win tomorrow is just that... wishful thinking. :banghead
May 27, 200519 yr Meh, I hope to God none of our starters gets hurt and that AJ gets back real soon because obviously there is no one ready to step in. Makes me worried for next year, but thats for another time. As for Yorman not a big fan of him seen him pitch a couple times and well he hasn't exactly impressed me, but he is only 20 so can do nothing but improve I would think. Weird to me that he was even called up. Probably were better options. It really doesn't matter who pitched anyways because odds are this would have happened anyways if Kensing were the pitcher. I'm not sure if there was a 'right' choice'.
May 27, 200519 yr We just have the misfortune that we've been hit with alot of injuries at the same time. If not for the injuries to Mota, Alfonseca, and Spooney, Riedling makes this start, or maybe Bump. Let's not even talk about AJ being healthy for the start or Ish being around to be a spot starter.

Because thinking that Moehler may win tomorrow is just that... wishful thinking. :banghead 785364 First of all it's a 4 games series. Secondly they normally play ok against anyone when they see them for the second time. I have a feeling we are all in for a pleasant surprise. You are way too pessimistic. Yeah they are taking it a little easier today trying not to get hurt in the soggy fiel, doesn't mean the series is over. It's the Mets, we own them.
May 27, 200519 yr I was expecting worse, so I'm happy with Bazardo's and Castillo's pitching performances. And it's only one game, it's no biggie. There's a game tomorrow, and we can be in the W column...
May 27, 200519 yr I'm confused. When did Brian Moehler become the stinky cheese? Is this the same Brian Moehler who hasn't let up more than 2 runs in any of his 6 starts? Someone help me out here. Why are we counting ourselves out of tomorrow's game?
May 27, 200519 yr No biggie...good try kid. He's way too young. I still think he has potential unlike Kensing. We'll see.
May 27, 200519 yr Castillo impressed me somewhat. I still don't think he's any better an option than Kensing or Bazardo or Valdez or any others though. We could address the backend of the rotation at some point. Moehler is likely to come back down to earth at some point. Leiter might be done. Valdez needs unbelievable run support to look good. Injuries concerns surround the club. I don't want to sound too much like a pessimist. The club is good and in a great position to compete and win the divisional crown. But among our non-problems-but-likely-could-be-at-some-point, I think the back of rotation has surpassed our middle relief and bench problems.
May 27, 200519 yr I wasn't expecting much out of Bazardo tonight, since he's only 20 and came up from AA. The rain delay tonight was an hour and a half, compared to the 30 minute or so delay last night. I didn't expect much from Castillo either, but he still did better than Bazardo.
May 27, 200519 yr Because thinking that Moehler may win tomorrow is just that... wishful thinking. :banghead 785364 Moe has been one of our better pitchers so

Why are we counting ourselves out of tomorrow's game? 785417 because he's facing Pedro I guess, but c'mon Moehler's been fantastic so far. He's only got a better ERA than all the starters except Willis. No reason he can't hang in there against Pedro. Plus the next two games we have Willis & Beckett pitching.
May 27, 200519 yr To be honest, I felt more comfortable with Castillo out there than with Leiter. I really hate seeing Bazardo having to eat some innings. Why the scare on Pedro? Last time I checked, he had a higher ERA than Brian M

And yes, I love being pessimistic. :whistle

Plus the next two games we have Willis & Beckett pitching. 785467 I am not saying that Moehler is not a good pitcher. He has been fantastic this season. It is a shame that he hasn't had the run support to win more games. I like him better than Valdez. The problem is he gives up a lot of hits and he will be facing Pedro. It's not like I am giving up on tomorrow's game, but it's not going to be easy... Unless, of course, Pedro gives up 8 runs in the first inning... :thumbup
May 27, 200519 yr It's too bad for Yorman the experiment failed. Very few are able to come up from AA and make it. He'll be a good pitcher one day. Let's hope he keeps his head held high. Unfortunately we may have awoken the sleeping giant tonight. The Mets couldn't hit anything against the Braves. With their confidence restored this could be a difficult series for us.
