Dave O'Brien returns...

Featured Replies

I always liked him since he first came on the scene back in '93. Always did a classy job with Joe Angel and even Gary Carter. It was funny to hear him talk about the 97' Marlins and also about the attendance troubles. What did you all think?

i never really liked O'Brien. Joe Angel was my favorite, they should've never let him go, even though Kasper has done a good job. "and the Marlins are in the WIN COLUMN!!!!!"

Dave O'Brien never worked with Gary Carter. Jay Randolph and Gary Carter were the Marlins announcers from 93-96. Starting in 97, O'Brien and Joe Angel rotated between radio and tv with Tommy Hutton as the tv analyst.

Jay Randolph! Joe Angel! Oh...the memories...I cant keep track of tv and radio announcers.

The best name in radio is still "Boog"

Correct Ross. Hutton used to call ESPN games before he joined our team. He is the longest standing broadcaster for the Marlins.

Oh yeah that's right what was I thinking. I couldn't remember the guys name that was with Carter, I thought it was O'brien.

Jay Randolph now does golf coverage. His last few years here he served as on deck host. Minervini replaced him.

did he give up the ESPN job or did he get fired?

I met Gary Carter. He spoke at my church. He signed my Bible (that's the only thing I had) after the service...it's pretty cool...he signed it, "To one Carter from another" (my first name is Carter). And now he's in the Hall of Fame!

He was only working as a part-time analyst for ESPN, so I think the Marlins job was just a better deal for him, especially considering he lives in Palm Beach Gardens.

Len Casper and Dave O' Brien have similar voices.

Sometimes I even forget that Len Casper is doing play-by-play...

I prefer Len with Tommy than O'Brien. O'Brein and Hutton didn't seem as at ease calling the game together as Len and Tommy do.

Thats true. That mood changed when Dave came in in the 4th to replace Joe.

I believe Joe Angel is doing Giants games now, and I think he did Mets games in the early 90's. I'm not sure.

Joe Angel and Jon Miller are a great Radio team for KNBR and the Giants. they host radio shows on KNBR about the Giants and do a very nice pregame show before every game.

Dave Justice was even okay tonight. I usually can't stand his voice but it wasn't too bad. Maybe I was just too into the game to listen though.

Yes he is horrible...

What kinds of things did he say about the Marlins?

Last time I saw him he was bashing on the Marlins saying they won't make the playoffs and how he thought Lowell wanted to leave.

He was suprisingly positive but I don't think he had a choice. How can you bag on the Marlins the way they are playing? Best record in Baseball since mid-May! He spoke very highly of the fans saying they deserved a good baseball team and had waited long enough for a good season. Dave O'brien was great though. They gave shout outs to Dontrelles mom Joyce and Dave kept saying, "Wathchu talkin bout Willis" after he saw the sign. classic

Dave justice as on David Justice?

Correct

Then of course he hates the marlins. After all he lost a shot to win the a world series ring in back in 97 because of the marlins. I never knew he worked for ESPN.
