July 4, 200521 yr got knocked around in his first rehab start for the Jupiter Hammerheads. I was there , it wasn't pretty 2IP 6 hits 7 Runs 2 Walks 2k's - even the outs were hit hard.

July 4, 200521 yr 2 IP That's the important part. We know the rest follows Valdez in every classification of baseball.

July 4, 200521 yr 2 IP That's the important part. We know the rest follows Valdez in every classification of baseball. 838911 We do? 838925 we know Valdez isnt very good :mischief 838928 In the end that may turn out to be true but at this point he's a guy throwing for the time in (th e equivalent of) spring training against batters who are in mid-season form, there's no way you can draw any conclusion based on this first outing. What are we really expecting from him? At best a fifth starter. Let's see where he is after three or four or five starts. Clearly he still needs to build up arm strength and the only way that will happen is by pitching.
July 4, 200521 yr He's a 5th starter turned emergency starter .. I don't know what people are expecting out of him? Am I missing something?
July 4, 200521 yr We've got better options than Valdez already up with the big club I think...what exactly would his role be?
July 4, 200521 yr We've got better options than Valdez already up with the big club I think...what exactly would his role be? 839085 We could look to trade him for another reliever. Starting pitching is at a premium right now.
July 4, 200521 yr Even if he stinks, as long as he doesn't give up 3 grand slams (Leiter) between now and Sept I'd be happy. If he throws strikes, that'll be a step up from Leiter. If Olsen isn't in the rotation that is.
July 5, 200521 yr That was his first start, its hard coming back after a couple of months and not get spanked. Give him some few more starts down there, we dont really need him right now.
July 5, 200521 yr Curt Schilling also had a rehab start today and he gave up 5 ER. You guys are blowing this way out of proportion.
July 5, 200521 yr Curt Schilling also had a rehab start today and he gave up 5 ER. You guys are blowing this way out of proportion. 840338 And I was at the game and can attest to the fact that almost everything that got hit was hit hard today...thread about it in the MLB section.
July 5, 200521 yr Curt Schilling also had a rehab start today and he gave up 5 ER. You guys are blowing this way out of proportion. 840338 Exactly. Valdez is there to simply "get his work in" and make sure his leg isn't going to snap in half (again). Besides, not like he can be worse than Leiter.
July 5, 200521 yr When he is ready he will take Resop's spot in the bullpen and then they can send him to AA or AAA to get some work....he needs to throw and get some experience against good hitters....that way he will be ready for next season and truly compete for a job in that bull pen. Young right now and inexperienced....can he do the job most certainly....but needs more work this season
