Passion
Rule 5 pick Adam Stern, a Red Sox bench player, got his first hit tonight in the 8th inning in the Red Sox lopsided win and Derek Jeter realized he had, retrieved the ball, and gave it to the Boston bench. "It was pretty cool," said Stern. "Those guys are superstars out there and it's great for someone like that to recognize a first hit." Say what you want about Jeter, im his crtic and heckler often, but I have and always will respect what he does for the game and how he conducts himself on the field. Very classy Derek. MarlinatPenn
This is not a special occurence, for a player to throw the ball in the dugout, it happens all the time. It's not especially classy.

I saw it live, as a Red Sox fan I thought it was a big deal...

MRMarlin93
This is NOT anything special. Jeter is not a Class act because of this. He is following a mlb folkway. It's just what you do.
