July 30, 200521 yr SARNI: Marlins' analyst calls the shots from new seat Published July 29, 2005 Tommy Hutton trades in his spiffy FSN Tommy Bahama shirt for a Fox blazer Saturday. Fox picked up the Nationals-Marlins game for a regional afternoon telecast and asked Hutton, the Marlins' analyst, to work the game with play-by-play announcer Josh Lewin. The veteran broadcaster will take a different approach for the Fox audience. "My approach on Saturday will be down the middle," said Hutton, who is in his 24th year as a broadcaster, ninth with the Marlins. "I probably lean a little toward the Marlins when doing a Marlins telecast. I'll be less personal with names to make it more a national telecast. "I do look forward though to telling people about Miguel Cabrera, the Marlins' defense up the middle and other things about the club that the general public has not heard enough." So what Florida team will show up Saturday -- the Good Marlins or the Bad Marlins? "This was supposed to be a year of expectation, and it's been so frustrating to do the games," Hutton said. "We run into scouts and other broadcasters and they'll say `You have the best team.' And we answer `But you haven't seen us play.' "It's an intriguing team. The Marlins still have a chance to go on a nice run and make the playoffs." Link

July 30, 200521 yr Hopefully they don't like him too much and end up offering him a national contract. 880223[/snapback] Exactly what I thought. In any case -- give 'em a good show, Mr. Hutton.
July 30, 200521 yr Honestly, I don't think Tommy is the kind of guy who would want to be with a national network. He used to be on ESPN, and seems to be pretty settled down here. Anyway, FOX only has one game a week, so their announcers are with other teams the rest of the week.
July 30, 200521 yr awesome! I wont get too see it, ill be at the ballpark... so hey.. ya'll keep me informed..
July 30, 200521 yr Thank goodness for Tommy, the Fox announcer said something like "Miguel has the range for this one..." he was referring to a weakly hit pop up not 10 feet from Cabs... makes me want to slap all fox announcers...
