And if so, do you think he is having a career year, and do you think he will be able to replicate his success this season again?(this stems from a conversation I had with Cardinals fans who say what Carpenter has done this season is expected, and if he had done any less it wouldn't of been normal, and he is actually pitching BELOW his ability level...then they said he will show the D-Train how to pitch Tuesday and it made me mad)

August 1, 200521 yr Because some Cards fans are stupid doesnt mean most are.. Sorry.. You'd be pressing to hard to think Carpenter isnt overachieving or playing beyond what he should be. At the same time, he's having a great two years as a Cardinal player and I'm enjoying watching him. Having learned from Roger Clemens (Who happens to be impressed with Carpenter as a pitcher), having surgery, and then learning from Dave Duncan I would think he'd be a better pitcher personally. It's showed as a Cardinal. Also why do people keep saying he's gonna fall back to reality.. Is it because he's never been this good and because he's had surgery? I heard that last year.. I hear it this year.. When's it gonna happen?

I was born and raised 60 miles east of St. Louis in southern Illinois. I have lived here 21 years. I have seen the Cardinals and associated with their fans for 21 years. They really are some of the least-knowledgeable fans there are. Trust me, I know.

August 1, 200521 yr Why does it even matter? We love our Cardinals and Cardinals only for the most part (Well my 2nd favorite team is the Marlins). Some may not know anything else about other teams but not all of the fans are like that like your are making them out to be. Eh, whatever. Personally I dont even know who started that 'best fans in baseball' stuff and everyone went with it. But it's far from the truth. Some of us know our baseball. Some of us dont. That's just the way it is.
August 1, 200521 yr the cardinals are known to have one of the most knowledgable fan bases of any team in baseball. and look at what chris carpenter has done in his two years in st louis. he was good last year. better this year. i dont think its simply 'a fluke' at this point. and matty is going to get a huge raise this offseason and i fully expect the cardinals to keep him in st louis.

I think he might just of worn out a bit, he had some major off-season surgery. I like Morris too, one of the few Cardinals I like actually.

Then why are you a member on a Cardinal board? Before his injury last year, he was 15-5. He has the same number of wins at an earlier point in the season. Face the fact that he is a good pitcher and be done with it. It amazes me that you can be so two-sided on these boards. You have no idea how much knowledge we have of the game. Probably some of the MOST knowledgable actually. That is why my Oakland A's are first in the AL wildcard, and close to the top in the AL West with my guys Danny Haren and Huston Street doing unbelievably well, with Danny having won 7 straight decisions, my Yankees are 2 1/2 games back of the Red Sox in the AL East even with a horrid pitching staff, my Houston Astros are in second place in the NL Central and my Braves are doing pretty well too. With Jeff Francoeur hitting right around .400 in 16 games with 6 HR. Yea, we're only knowledgable about ONE team. Try again.

The Cardinals fans in my area are complete and utter morons, and alot of them I encounter at Busch are the same way(one guy poured a beer on my head when I was 9 because I was wearing a Marlins hat) and it makes me overly critical of the fanbase. I have no problem with the knowledgeable ones.

August 2, 200521 yr Carpenter has always had talent. He used to have a HUGE future before that big arm injury. He still should be an all star year in and year out now.
