September 5, 200520 yr better not be on my team next year. I have had more than enough of this kick ass one night, get your ass kicked the next night bulls***. He doesnt totally screw up today and we have a chance to win it. As it was, him and his stupidity gives up 4 runs. Good job a**hole. If Beinfest doesnt move him this winter he is stupid. And it would be one of his stupidiest moves to date.
September 5, 200520 yr He was pretty darn good for the first inning. I blame McKeon more than anything, we saw last year that Mota's shaky at best in his second inning of work. But, yeah, if we can get something for Mota (and get him to the AL), I think we should take it.
September 5, 200520 yr Author someone is angry 931525 ya cause mota never went more than one inning with the dodgers. do your damn job. its not just about one game, its about him doing this crap all year long. I've had enough.
September 5, 200520 yr He's been garbage ever since he arrived with us. Even last season he couldn't shut down any lineups that hit with a pulse.
September 5, 200520 yr No, I think Mota's been bad since the Fish got him. It's their own silly fault that they let Mota stay; last year should have been a red flag. That said, I was at the game today (I live in MD, about half an hour from RFK) and I was pretty pleased with Vargas's performance. The first inning was kind of rough, but then he settled in and pitched pretty well. And I thought Jack looked like a genius when he put in Alfonseca to get out of that bases-loaded jam; I must have been the happiest person in the park after that double play ball. :-) When I saw Mota out there on the hill for the seventh, I started thinking that just because Jack put Mota in he was giving up on winning today. Mota gave up a triple or something and then was ok, but I still think Jack should have called it a day, maybe put in Messenger to pitch the 8th. But I'm not the manager, and even though Mota's a one-inning pitcher he got two innings. It was obvious in the second inning that his confidence was getting rattled. He wasn't throwing as many strikes, walked some guys, gave up some hits. Then when he gave up that hit to Livan, I think he should have definitely been yanked. When Marlon Byrd (who already had a single and a triple) came up and Mota was still in there, I was getting pretty furious. Then when he hit that double over Hermida's head (Hermida looked like a fool on the play), and all three runners scored, I just thought, "Told ya so. This is the Mota I know." When Cabrera hit that home run, at least that let me know that at least one of the Fish was still at the game in the ninth inning. My dad and I were almost alone cheering for him, but we were pretty pleased. This definitely was a game that the Marlins could have won, and Mota lost it... my condolences to Vargas, who didn't deserve getting his record punished for Mota's usual colossal mistake.
September 5, 200520 yr When Mota is "on" he is one of the best but he is extremely inconsistant which is why he is not one of the best. I wonder about him mentally as well Todd Jones doesnt have the stuff Mota has but has a toughness about him that allows him to find away to get the job done....Mota is soft and I always get nervous when he is in a close game .
September 5, 200520 yr i think it was jacks fault for keeping him in, i mean comeon wat did we bring villone here for...we have more than enough people in our pen.
September 5, 200520 yr Mota is great. His stuff has been good as of late. Just don't let him throw more than 30 pitches. I blame this on bullpen management.
September 5, 200520 yr jack mckeon is to blame for all of this 931581 If Jack took Mota out and put in Mecir or Messenger and gave up a big hit, you'd all be saying Jack is to blame for not letting Mota get out of it himself.
September 5, 200520 yr Mota has been very inconsistent this year. Hermidia did look like a fool on that ball hit over his head. Offense is only part of the game.

Offense is only part of the game. 931592 on Hermida. that was a tough ball to catch and Miguel was not going to catch it. So I'm not going to fault Hermida for that. I did fault him on the game thread, but I was joking as a way to vent my frustration
September 5, 200520 yr I wouldn't have a problem, with Mota pitching 2 innings, if his pitch count was low. Today he ended up throwing 51 pitches.....that would be a lot for a starter.....
September 5, 200520 yr The finger can be pointed at McKeon. Mota can be good and was for one inning. Jack had no options when Mota got rattled because Jack had nobody warming up during Mota's second inning of work. He was stuck. With all the arms in the pen there is absolutely no reason not to have someone else ready to go when Mota is in the game.

All we could tell was that it looked like he misplayed it, and that cost us big time. I was waiting to hear from those at the game for their opinion. We've heard from one. I'll wait to hear from others.

Isnt Hermi a right fielder?

Isnt Hermi a right fielder? 931631 Yeah. Supposedly he can play all three outfield positions like Encarnacion or Aguila can, but I wouldn't really agree with that thinking... watching him today at the game, he sort of looked lost on some plays... I'd say he's more comfortable with RF.
September 5, 200520 yr I'm not the world's biggest Enc fan (or Mota) but...I wouldn't actually mind seeing Aguila/Conine in LF, Enc in CF, and Hermi in RF for a while with Castillo (batting around .300 leading off)
September 6, 200520 yr Mota looked great until after the run scored and Wilky stepped to bat. That's when he started losing his spots and getting hit hard. As I pointed out in IMF's thread, the defense and general bad luck deserves a lot of the blame for that inning.
September 6, 200520 yr Also I had reservations about the intentional walk. It made sense strategy wise. But it showed to the pitcher on the mound, who hasn't had the best professional relationship with Jack, that Jack did not trust him. And at this point of the season and today's game, you're playing off pure emotion not physical strength. That move might have derailed Mota.
