September 10, 200520 yr "You got a 4-1 lead, you give that to Bob Gibson or Jim Bunning, they close you out," McKeon said. "You give it to Dontrelle [Willis], he'll close you out." :lol I wonder what AJ was thinking when he read/heard this? :whistle "We started out like a house on fire," McKeon said. "Everybody was charged up and then it deflated." Thanks for deflating us AJ :mischief2 http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/sfl-mar...la-sports-front
September 10, 200520 yr AJ has reverted back to being a thrower...with little command of his pitches. When will he ever realize MLB hitters can jump all over his 97 mph fastball when they know it is coming?
September 10, 200520 yr Yup, this year you give it to Dontrelle and he closes it out. AJ can't close it out because he's a bitch.
September 10, 200520 yr AJ messed up big time. We had good momentum coming into the series. Now with Vargas pitching tomorrow and a notoriously shaky Valdez (even though the last few outings he's looked decent), who knows how this series could end up. All we needed was AJ to keep us in it. 4 runs in 6 innings would have been a good enough outing, but, he when he sees that he gets in a serious jam he just quits until Jack gets him out. I've known pitchers like that.
September 10, 200520 yr the thing is with aj, if he's going to whine and bitch then at least back it up, i'm glad to hear mckeon giving it to him, and at the very least, challanging. but who knows, he'll probably take it as a hit and whine and bitch some more. oh the explatives that can be used.
September 10, 200520 yr Don't forget this quote: "If you talk the talk, you better walk the walk," McKeon said of Burnett's performance. "If he goes out there next time, he'll have Mr. Clemens." IF he goes out there next time?? Someone has to put Burnett in his place.

Its about time you say that about AJ :thumbup
September 10, 200520 yr McKeon is finally being awesome. First he takes out an underperforming Lowell, now he totally pwns AJ.
September 10, 200520 yr Something big must be going on the clubhouse for McKeon to be calling out AJ here. I'm not an advocate of public critizism, no matter how much I'm hating on AJ right now. Is that going to solve things?

Don't blame AJ or Beckett for that matter. All those early season complete games are coming back to haunt the Marlins. I don't care about pitch counts either. AJ has had Tommy John surgery. Now Beckett has "shoulder tendinitus". They say it's bothering him in the back of his shoulder. Uhmmm....that's where Bump's was bothering him as I recall and it ended up he had a torn labrum and had surgery to correct it. Of course Bump didn't pitch all that many innings in games BUT he sure warmed up constantly without being used and that had to contribute to the injury. Jack is a pitcher's nightmare. I am sure AJ will not like what Jack said. The Marlins may be sorry they didn't fire Jack in July! Having watched Jack's managing all season, this was all predictable with more to come I might add. They may make the playoffs but at what price?

September 10, 200520 yr AJ is probably being hard headed. I don't like him at all. 937857 Then don't watch the Marlins when he pitches! That should solve your problem!

I don't know how many innings AJ has, but you've got to be able to pitch at least 200 innings in a season if you want to be considered a top of the line starter. Look at Dontrelle. 5 shutouts and like 6 complete games. Look at how he's doing. Josh and AJ just need to be in good shape, like Dontrelle.

That should solve your problem! 937858 WTF are you talking about? I love the Marlins. I just don't like how AJ trashes the fans, the city, and talks about how damn good he is and then just blows it when we have a big game. If you're going to talk the talk, you need to walk the walk. I want our players to be humble, hard workers, and to step it up when it counts - give me Miggy, D-Train, and Delgado any day over AJ.
September 10, 200520 yr Typical Jack1 stuff. If your arm hurts, it must be you were overused. Heck, must have been the same for Mecir as well although he rarely could pitch 2 days in a row.

He may be fine and he's going to get one hell of a raise that is certainly deserved and overdue.
September 10, 200520 yr I dont think AJ likes the marlins at all. So AJ get ur S*** together and go pitch your game!! lol

But I really love all of these people who are willing to peg all the blame for everything on the manager. Fact is he did more with less than Leyland, who is supposed to be this great manager. AJ and Beckett are a couple of whiny bitches ad primadonnas. How could AJ be hurt as you allege if he's still throwing it at 97 mph? His injury is between the ears. As other have pointed out, if he pitches rather than throwing he'll be more successful. And guess what? He'll also put less stress on his arm and elbow. Changes speeds, locate your pitches. Speaking of not pitching many innings, Beckett has the least amount of innings of the big 3. These guys (AJ and Beckett) just need to step up. It looks like Beckett may be starting to come out of it. I think his problem is that he's not interested unless the game is important. At least he looks disinterested. He doesn't like a guy who wants to take the ball every 5th day during a 162 game season, only in the last month of the season and playoffs.
September 10, 200520 yr They forced Marlins starter A.J. Burnett to make a quick departure from the mound, and he made an equally quick one from the clubhouse, refusing to talk to reporters after losing his fourth consecutive start. Typical AJ....do poorly and run away.
September 10, 200520 yr They may make the playoffs but at what price? Oh brother. What are they playing the season for? For next year? Yeah we should save AJ's arm for next year when he'll be [over] paid $15 Million by some sucker. If your going to be a starting pticher you should expect to pitch 200 innings. Maybe that's too old school, but that's what I expect a "superstar" to do.
September 10, 200520 yr That "If he goes out there next time" is interesting Anyways Jack is right...AJ needs to get his head out of his ass. As I've said for the past 3 months, I feel sorry for the team that gives him 40 million
September 10, 200520 yr A.J. has thrown 189 innings in 29 starts. Less than 7 innings per start. OMGHESOVERWORKED. I mean, seriously, he's gonna throw about 205 innings this season. If that's "overworked" then he isn't a front line starter. Of course, his pitching says he's not one anyway. And ya know, he's not coming back anyway, so I don't care what happens to his arm in the future.
September 10, 200520 yr While I don't think they've been overworked, it's not fair to look at just the innings they've pitched this year. Jack has made an attempt to press his arms to get a fast start in spring training to the point they're ready for the season 1 or 2 or more starts before spring training ends. This is large part of the reason why we've done so well at the start of the past two seasons, with our pitchers at their peak performance while our opposition is still gaining their timing. However could it also be the reason why our pitching has struggled in the mid to later point of the seasons?
September 10, 200520 yr I can't wait till he's gone after this year. Mr. Inconsistancy has done more to hurt this team as of late at a time when this team needs him the most to help get them into the playoffs. Maybe facing Roger will get him excited enough to really start throwing like the pitcher we all he can be.
