Posted September 10, 200519 yr The guy having the best year or the guy who's beem most valuable to his team?
September 10, 200519 yr Where's Barry Bonds?!?! My vote goes to Pujols or Carpenter. This thread has sucky choices.
September 10, 200519 yr Where's Albert Pujols? 937924 Who's that? I'm surprised Bonds isnt listed..
September 10, 200519 yr Author Where's Albert Pujols? 937924 it's basically a two man race...there's two ways to look at who's the MVP: 1. who has had the best year? That answer is clearly Lee...he's at the top at most offensive categories, and is the obvious choice for the gold glove as well 2. who has been the most valuable to their team? The answer is clearly Jones...the Cubs are a .500 team with Lee, so his play isn't helping as much as it should...the Cards would still be in the race without Pujols, the Marlins could lose Cabrera and Delgado would pick up the slack, the only one that comes close in this department is Ensberg
September 10, 200519 yr Where's Miguel Cabrera? I'd say hes been one of the most valuable players in the league. Crappy poll choices.

September 10, 200519 yr You can make a case for Miguel quite easily. Isn't the definition of the most valuable player, the player who, without his play, the team would be in the doldrums? Derrek Lee is having a tremendous year, but the Cubs still suck. Andruw Jones really stepped his play when the team needed it and he has a strong case for the award. Without Miguel, god knows where the Marlins would be right now. And Pujols you make the case for because the Cards have been hit by significant injuries and they are still the top team in the league.

September 10, 200519 yr he Cardinals are in first place because of their overacheiving pitching staff And because of ALBERT carrying our weak ass offense. I'm sick of the good offense excuses I keep hearing.. What's so good about our offense? We have Pujols and a down year Edmonds..

September 10, 200519 yr I'd probably vote Pujols. You want to penalize him because his team has won TOO much?
September 10, 200519 yr Author I'd probably vote Pujols. You want to penalize him because his team has won TOO much? 937985 not directly, but the great supporting cast he has makes it so the Cards wouldn't be hurting as much if they lost him, compared to Jones whom the Braves would be nothing this uear without Like I said, you gotta give it to either the guy having the best year (Lee) or the guy that's most valuable to his team (Jones)

Obviously you havent saw him or the Cardinals play all the games this year like some have.. Pujols is soooo valuable to this team.. We wouldnt be close to where we are without Albert. You telling me a lineup of SS Eckstein, LF Taguchi (since Sanders has been out), CF Edmonds, RF Walker (he only plays like twice a week), 2B Grudzielanek, 1B Mabry, 3B Nunez, C Molina, SP would still be good in the NL? Hahahahaha.. Someone pick me up off the floor..

Pujols is having a year that is about 99.6% as good as Lee's statistically and he's on a team that matters. Andruw Jones, at least in terms of OPS, is nowhere close. He's more than 100 points behind Pujols, and almost 150 behind Lee. It seems like you're trying to change the paradigm of the agruement so that the only way I can continue to maintain that Pujols deserves the award is to argue that the Cardinals aren't that good, or that the Braves are better than you think. That's ridiculous. Pujols' numbers straight up own Andruw's. BUT, what the hell, I'll play it your way. St. Louis has scored 33 more runs than ATL this year, but they've also played an extra game. Atlanta averages 4.78 runs a game, so let's say the run differential is is about 28.22. That's far from huge. Now, let's just do some rudimentary statistical manipulation. Pujols has 223 runs + RBIs. Jones has 204. So, let's just take those numbers away from the team, and what do we have? What we have is a run differential of 9.22 runs over the course of the season. WOW... Of course, STL has allowed less runs, but what now, you're going to punish Pujols because his team's pitching is stronger? You can only twist this whole "most valuable to his team" arguement around so much; eventually, it starts to look ridiculous. The fact is that Pujols is more valuable to his team than Jones is to his. If your standard of value is simply going from mediocre to good, then maybe Jones has an arguement. But then that also means that MVPs should only come from teams that are just on the threshold of making the playoffs. My standard of value is different. Pujols is the primary reason the Cardinals are the best team in baseball and the favorite to win the World Series. Now that's value.
September 10, 200519 yr Andruw Jones I don't care if D-Lee deserves it or not, you shouldn't win the MVP if your team doesn't make the playoffs. AND WHERE THE HELL IS ALBERT PUJOLS?
