Great numbers, except the strikeouts. But he has cut down on his strikeouts lately. I believe many of his strikeouts have come from chasing bad pitches, and being way to impatient on the plate.

He will definate put some awesome numbers when he has the chance to play a full season.

Since the AS break, he's had a great eye. A lot of those K's were from early this year.

This guy is a great part of our team right now, and he's only going to get better! He and D-Train should make the Marlins a great team a few years down the road. Miggy is going to be a star!

They're making the Marlins a great team NOW, at 20 and 21.

Think what they couldbe doing a few years from now!

What Cabrera is doing at the majors right now is pretty remarkable. Plain and simple, players just don't come to the majors at 20 years old and have the type of success Miguel has had. Look at some of the young players currently in the majors who were highly touted prospects. Sean Burroughs, Xavier Nady, Rocco Baldelli, Carl Crawford, Marlon Byrd, Justin Morneau, Michael Cuddyer, Joe Borchard, Eric Munson, Carlos Pena, Omar Infante, Brandon Phillips, Orlando Hudson, Hee Seop Choi, Mark Teixeira, Lyle Overbay, and the list goes on. All these players are considered to have solid major league careers ahead of them, and some are supposed to become stars. Well, Cabs is doing better than all of them...and he's also younger than all of them. Heck, he's a good 4 years younger than most of the players I just mentioned. The list of hitters who are called up to the majors at age 20 is short, and the list of those who actually have success at age 20 is even shorter. To put it in perspective, check out these numbers:

Alex Rodriguez in his 20-year-old season:

142 ABs, .232 AVG, .672 OPS

Gary Sheffield in his 20-year-old season:

368 ABs, .247 AVG, .640 OPS

Miguel Cabrera:

201 ABs, .279 AVG, .839 OPS

I really think, four to six years from now (maybe sooner), Cabs is going to be one of the top 5 hitters in the majors.

I hope he doesn't pull a K-Rod...good grief...nah, I don't think he will

Jose Reyes and Miguel Cabrera both came up at the same time, both started out slow, and both have now shown they are going to be stars in years to come.

From the begining (when this kid was brought up and asked to play a new position). I was amazed at his POISE. This kid is cool and smooth. If he makes an occasional misjudgment in Left Field... that's the price we pay. And I'm willing to pay it! Tip of the hat to FO for not trading for a left fielder (surely a last minute decision and a good one!)

Cabs = Future

I really think he will be one of top ten best players in baseball in just 2-3 three years from now.

He didn't ask to play left field.

I'd like to see Fish Fillet's comments on Cabrera seeing as how just 2 weeks ago he was all for sending him down to the minors. I hate to throw down an I-told-you-so, but I couldn't resist. Lets hear it FF...

hey im back from school, well i've been back since 2:30(7th period) anyways i think cab's has really shown who he is.a good young player with a bazooka as an arm!

He didn't ask to play left field.

He meant that the management asked him to play a new position

I find that Cabrera has performed acceptably, which is much more than one could of asked considering his age and the transitions he's had to make defensively. Would I of liked to have, say... traded for a veteran instead? Of course. But as I said, Cabrera is acceptable and there are far more glaring weaknesses on this team that should be addressed first.

A couple other things... First on this whole arguement about Cabs' arm: He has an above average arm...for a LF. Start comparing him to "outfielders" in general and his arm gets more and more average as you move closer to most RF'ers.

I also think that Cabs has looked all the better because of the downright atrocious offensive production of those who hit around him in the lineup lately. Sea Bass and D. Lee are far from consisitent, and more often than not anything offensive from Cabrera is viewed as a ray of light from the rally-killing, life sucking, can't hit Boynton Beach pitching black hole that is our 6 through 9 hitters. Don't get all defensive Gonalez and Lee lovers, just saying right now, at this particular point in the season, the bottom third blows goats.

Feel free to flame out on me at will.

WOW, for a rookie, those would've been numbers not seen in a long time :D

I could careless especially if he just came up from the minors anyway :thumbup patience comes with experience and he would've been 20 years old with those numbers!

Since 2000 i think you mean?

i think Pujols hit number better than those in his rookie year

2001 not 2000....

in 20001 he hit 47 doubles, 4 3B, 37 hr, 130 RBI, .329 avg, 1.013 OPS

just making a Point

But if Cabs Played a whole season its very likely he would be around there though...

It is funny how high everyone is on Cabs. I think you got it right Arnie - Cabrera's poise sold me. I knew the hype, had for some time. But when I saw this guy play, it was his poise at the plate that screamed star. He knows what he doing out there, and will only get better. This is kind of a non issue, until stats were used to show how good Cabs is in comparison to other notable 20-year old call ups. But Miggy has not had nearly as much hype as ARod recieved, or even as much as Sheff got when he came up at 19.

Cabs is just a great player. He's going to be a player you can build your team around, and early. Next year the offense will be built around Lowell, but Cabrera could be just as good as Mikey next year. And his arm is above average for a LF'er or RF'er. Not many LF'ers can get 5 assists (which Cabs has) in the time he's had to do it.
