December 6, 200520 yr Found this from Ryan Sandberg's column Market Swings on Yahoo Sports. 9. Sammy Sosa ? Sosa had an injury-plagued 2005 season and it looks like he'll have to sign a minor-league deal and prove he's healthy. If no big-league team takes a chance on him, Sosa might sign with a team in Japan. He would make more money by playing there. Best fits: Tampa Bay Devil Rays or Florida Marlins. How strange would it be to see Sammy as a Marlin? I can't say i'd want him as a Marlin, but it would be a strange sight to see indeed. According to Sandberg he'd be making as much as any of the kids and who knows... he might even have a good year left in him. But I wouldn't count on that...
December 6, 200520 yr I'd take the chance on him if he's willing to play for $500,000... which I doubt.
December 6, 200520 yr Author Sammy would be an idiot if he goes to Japan. Do they do roids testing there? lol, I think you mean 'Cork-Test"
December 6, 200520 yr I'd take the chance on him if he's willing to play for $500,000... which I doubt. Yeah, why not? Although, I'm holding out for an outfield of Conine, Gathright, and Hermida.
December 6, 200520 yr I'd take the chance on him if he's willing to play for $500,000... which I doubt. Yea for sure!! I wouldnt want him as a Marlin but for 500,000 thats a STEAL!
December 6, 200520 yr Author I really think its possible... I mean Fred McGriff signed in Tampa Bay a couple of years ago and they took a chance on him... it didn't work out though. Honestly, I think Sammy winds up with the D-Rays over us... since the D-Rays have a history of signing aging sluggers who are past their hurrah.
December 6, 200520 yr Why not? Especially if Conine doesn't want to come back... Yeah. In that case, absolutely.. What do we have to lose?
December 6, 200520 yr He's Spanish, and he can mentor just about everyone on the team. How many other players do you know that had 3 straight 60 HR seasons, regardless of steroids? We have a ton of young hispanic players that he could be a positive influence on: HanRam, Cabs, our Double A pitching staff.
December 6, 200520 yr he could help put some butts in the seats signing alot of autographs and all. True that. And in terms of the steroid issue, he was the least guilty (in America's eyes) out of all those who stood before Congress.
December 6, 200520 yr I'll pass. I think Sammy kind of turns the average fan off from all negative publicity, the same fan we are trying to bring in. Im holding out for an OF of Hermida, Gathright, and Mo Pena.
December 6, 200520 yr Positive influence?!? This guy has been a cancer ever since he stopped hitting home runs. The last thing we want is Sosa and Cabrera in the same clubhouse.
December 6, 200520 yr he can mentor just about everyone on the team. :lol ! He is the one guy I wouldn't want to have on a team full of young players.
December 6, 200520 yr Author The Yankees will give him 1 million, beat that Well the Mets are willing to overpay on everybody so I bet they'd be willing to spend the 7 million they saved on delgado on him. lol.

We have a ton of young hispanic players that he could be a positive influence on: HanRam, Cabs, our Double A pitching staff. HanRam and Cabs already have attitude issues, giving them to Sammy would be suicide. I still don't have a problem with this, per se, but I don't think it should be looked at as a "mentorship" given Sosa's worn out welcome in his last two cities.
December 6, 200520 yr As long as he makes less than a mil and doesn't cause any distractions in the locker room with our surplus of moldible baseball minds...
December 6, 200520 yr Hey maybe we sign him, he does good, we trade him at the deadline back to the Cubs (LOL!) or anybody else for prospects, hehe
