Rams signed safety Corey Chavous to a five-year contract.

The Rams continue to go after declining veterans. Chavous is a heady player who can help coach his teammates, but paying him $6-7 million in 2006 is outrageous. He will average $4 million in the first three years of the deal. Expect him to line up at free safety.

Cardinals signed DT Kendrick Clancy to a four-year, $8.1 million contract.

We're really surprised the Giants didn't offer this much to retain him. Clancy was a force down the stretch for New York last season and is likely to start next to Darnell Dockett in Arizona.

Cowboys signed G Kyle Kosier to a five-year, $15 million contract, including a $5 million signing bonus.

Kosier will help shore up a big problem area for Dallas' interior line. He can play guard and tackle, but this could spell the end of Admin Allen's career in Dallas.

DE Anthony Weaver is expected to sign with the Texans Saturday for a deal including $13 million in guaranteed money.

That is a huge contract for a player always seen as a solid, if unspectacular, starter. The Ravens lost two of them Saturday. Weaver should help Houston's rush defense and start in the team's new 4-3 defense. Robaire Smith may move inside

Ill start this thread off with Dolphins news of course

Cornerback Sam Madison's career with the Dolphins has ended as he agreed to terms with the New York Giants today.

Madison agreed to a four-year deal that includes a $2 million signing bonus. His annual base salaries are $900,000 in 2006, $1.2 million in 2007, $1.5 million in 2008 and $1.8 million in 2009.

Madison can also make an additional $250,000 each of those seasons for collecting four interceptions per year.

Agent Drew Rosenhaus declined to confirm the salary figures but spoke about Madison's impending career change.

''He's happy,'' said Rosenhaus, who represents Madison. ``He's sorry to leave the Dolphins but he's going to a great situation with the Giants. They have a winning team and a winning tradition.''

Madison was released by the Dolphins last week in a move to save space under the salary cap.

LAME!!! also, March, on my Dolphins calander, has Madison's picture.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports TE Matt Schobel will sign with Philadelphia.

The Eagles have been active on the first day of free agency, but inking the H-back Schobel is the first move that might actually stick. Mar. 11 - 5:07 pm et

ESPN.com reports the Broncos have signed Gerard Warren to a six-year deal.

The deal is reportedly worth $36 million in total and includes $10 million in guaranteed money. This is an unreal pay day for the #3 overall pick in the 2001 draft who once dubbed a bust. Mar. 11 - 5:15 pm et

Lawyer Milloy and Dexter Jackson were in Cincy today.

Will Demps is on his way to town.

Redskins acquired WR Brandon Lloyd for a 2006 third-round pick and a fourth-round selection in 2007.

San Francisco wasn't enamored with Lloyd's inconsistent play and wannabe rapper career, but they aren't a team that should be giving up offensive talent. Washington continues to mortgage the future, but Lloyd fills the most gaping No. 2 receiver hole in the league. If anyone can maximize his talent, it's Joe Gibbs. Just don't expect a Santana Moss-like explosion. Mar. 11 - 7:04 pm et

Vikings sign K Ryan Longwell.

Longwell stays in the NFC North after spending the past nine seasons with Green Bay. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed

The Cardinals have reportedly signed guard Milford Brown to a four-year contract.

"He is very aggressive and very athletic," says head man Dennis Green. "He is a big guy but for a guard his size I think he can run and make plays and I think he is ideally suited for our offensive system." Exact terms of the deal are unknown.

Browns signed WR Joe Jurevicius to a four year, $10 million contract.

For now, Jurevicius will fill a starting role opposite Braylon Edwards. The contract amount would seem to indicate he could slide into a No. 3 role down the line. Because of his injury history, we'll be cautious about over-valuing him in fantasy leagues.

Ravens signed DE Trevor Pryce to a five-year, $25 million contract, including $10 million in guarantees.

It's an extremely risky signing for a player who was limited to part-time duties in 2005 because of chronic back problems. Pryce will step into the starting role vacated by Anthony Weaver in Baltimore's new-look defense

I would imagine that Brees will still make his trip to Miami tomorrow even though Saban and company flew up today. I am really hoping this silly NO trip was to drive the price up on Miami. I expect him to visit Miami and leave with a contract. Unless there is some sleeper team out there we haven't heard of yet.

Saban better sign someone tonight. I don't care if he is a scrub, just sign someone. Getting frustrated seeing all these teams making moves with the Dolphins not doing anything yet.

It's probably a good thing you're not a GM. Patience, my friend. Overpaying someone just for the sake of overpaying them won't do us any good.

I echo your sentiments man...The Eagles need to do something other then sign a scrub TE.

The Bills signed former Indianapolis DT Admin Triplett and former Washington TE Robert Royal. They also had Andre' Davis in for a visit and are still deciding whether to cut Eric Moulds (which I am now in favor of).

Bills signed DT Admin Tripplett.

Tripplett will help fill the gaping hole left by Sam Adams and Pat Williams over the last two seasons. He had a breakout year collapsing the pocket for the Colts. Contract terms to follow. Mar. 11 - 8:01 pm et

Bills signed TE Robert Royal to a four-year, $10 million contract, including a $2.5 million signing bonus.

Just what the Bills fans want to hear - they now have a blocking tight end! Royal should help in the running game and will be an extension of the offensive line. Mar. 11 - 5:28 pm et

Still need to address the o-line at some point in free agency. Royal's signing probably means the Bills don't take Vernon Davis in the draft.

Sorry if posted:

MIAMI -- The Miami Dolphins met Saturday with quarterback Drew Brees in Birmingham, Ala., but were also considering a trade for Daunte Culpepper, said a person involved in negotiations on the first day of free agency.

There's competition with the Dolphins for both quarterbacks, said the source, who didn't want to be identified because the team has been tightlipped about its personnel plans.

The source said the Dolphins also met in South Florida with David Givens, one of the top free-agent receivers. He caught 59 passes for 738 yards and two touchdowns last year for New England.

The availability of Brees and Culpepper this year is uncertain because both are recovering from major injuries.

Miami coach Nick Saban and general manager Randy Mueller flew to Birmingham, where Brees has been rehabilitating his surgically repaired right shoulder. He went 21-11 the past two seasons for San Diego, but when contract talks with the Chargers stalled, they agreed to let him test the market.

Brees tore the labrum and damaged the rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder in the final game last season and underwent surgery Jan. 5. The Chargers have expressed doubts about his recovery, but he said Friday that he's ahead of schedule in rehabilitation.

"I understand everyone has their concerns, but I invite anybody to come here and look me in the eye and tell me I'm not going to come back from this," he said Friday.

New Orleans was also believed to be pursuing Brees.

Culpepper was a three-time Pro Bowl selection for Minnesota but played poorly last season before tearing three ligaments in his right knee in a game Oct. 30. He has been at odds with the Vikings over his 10-year, $102 million contract and wants to be traded.

"If a trade does not happen then I am asking the Vikings to terminate my contract as soon as possible," he said in his e-mail this week to media outlets.

There has been speculation that Oakland, Baltimore, St. Louis and Arizona are also interested in Culpepper.

The Dolphins declined to comment Saturday, but it's clear their top priority is to upgrade the quarterback position, where journeyman Gus Frerotte started last season. He's still on the roster but may be released or return as a backup in 2006.

He would not be a candidate to start, but Miami needs depth.
