Drew Brees is going to regret these last 24 hours for the rest of his life.

There are 10 million reasons that I doubt it.

i agree with hugg

Plus, wouldn't you want to be the poster child for the new LA franchise? I'm sure he can suck up 1 or 2 years in New Orleans.

have fun with a pathetic offense in New Orleans

Yeah - it'll suck for him to be stuck on a team with Deuce, Hakim, Horne, Stallworth, and Conwell... Then again, isn't this the same formula [brees + Top RB + Receiving TE + WR] that earned him a QB rating of 104.8 in 2004?

IRVING, Texas ? (AP) ? The Dallas Cowboys released receiver Keyshawn Johnson on Tuesday, avoiding a $1 million bonus he was due and possibly creating room for Terrell Owens.

Johnson is a favorite of coach Bill Parcells and was only scheduled to make $1.5 million this season. However, he was seeking an extension and a raise, and the Cowboys apparently wanted to keep their options open ? perhaps especially because T.O. is available.

"Keyshawn is one of a handful of the top competitors that have ever played for the Dallas Cowboys,'' Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said in a statement. "The more he was a part of our team, the more we appreciated him as a player.''

The tempestuous but talented Owens was released Tuesday by Philadelphia, making him a free agent. Jones has never shied from big-name players regardless of the cost or risk, and the Eagles have long been wary about their division rivals trying to land him.

The question for Dallas is whether his pass-catching skills are worth whatever other trouble he may cause, especially since the Cowboys are coming off a 9-7 season and likely need more than a big-time receiver to reach the Super Bowl.

Owens and Johnson couldn't share enough catches in the same lineup, and almost certainly would clash in one locker room. If Dallas doesn't get Owens, they'd still need someone like him, a big, sure-handed receiver who can catch passes over the middle. Terry Glenn is the only other accomplished receiver on the Cowboys' roster and he's more of the small,

speedy type.

Johnson turns 34 this summer and is coming off a solid season. He led the team in receptions with 71, and had 839 yards and six touchdowns.

And there it is.

TO will be a Cowboy by Friday.

I actually came away from that statement with the opposite feeling.

There it is right there. TO would likely go to a team that can contend as is. Dallas just isn't at that level yet I think. Too many holes.

I'd rather add Keyshawn to be compliment Chambers than TO if we're targeting a marquee receiver.

Hey not a bad thought.

Keyshawn and marquee are now mutually exclusive.

They always have been in places not known as Keyshawn's mind.

98 and 99 are as close as he came and that was a long time ago.

Dolphins release Frerotte

March 14, 2006

DAVIE, Fla. (AP) -- With a trade for Daunte Culpepper awaiting a doctor's approval, the Miami Dolphins released last year's starting quarterback, Gus Frerotte.

Miami acquired Culpepper on Tuesday from the Minnesota Vikings, with the deal contingent on Culpepper passing a physical. That's not a given, because he's recovering from a serious knee injury suffered in October.

LMDA West Palm, March

But the Dolphins declined to wait for the trade to become final to release Frerotte, who would have cost the team $4.38 million against the salary cap this year.

Frerotte went 9-6 as a starter in his only year with Miami, and threw a career-high 18 touchdown passes. The 12-year veteran has played for six NFL teams.

His departure leaves the Dolphins in the market for a backup quarterback. Sage Rosenfels, who filled that role last year, signed last week with Houston.

bye gus thank you for a solid year

He would be a nice backup to Palmer, but I doubt he'd want to come back.

And I'll never really forgive him for the left-handed INT against the Browns anyway.

We ain't going after Gus.

Marvin hates that guy.

You know that how?

I'd rather add Keyshawn to be compliment Chambers than TO if we're targeting a marquee receiver.

As long as they don't forget to throw him the damn ball. :thumbup

too old, not that good anymore. No thanks I rather draft a Holmes or Jackson then instead.

Reports from Boston have former New England Patriots Linebacker Willie McGinest ready to visit with the Dolphins.

Culpepper and McGinest in back-to-back days? That would be so awesome.

I :notworthy to Saban if he can make this happen.

Drew Brees is going to regret these last 24 hours for the rest of his life.

comparing conwell to Gates and Duece to LT? Little bit of a push towards SD. But if Horn can keep healthy he is a better WR then SD had. (That is a big if it seems).

Shall see though Ithink they win 5 games next year

Carter Restructures...

Posted on: 2006-03-15

Kevin Carter [Miami Herald] Dolphins defensive end Kevin Carter helped the Dolphins create $1.125 million in salary cap room when he restructured his contract, agent Harold Lewis said.

Carter agreed to convert $1.5 million of roster bonus into signing bonus. That amount was then prorated over the final four years of Carter's deal to open the cap space.

Steelers sign Keisel, Clark to fill holes on defense

ESPN.com

The Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday night addressed one sudden opening on their starting defensive unit and another void that the team essentially decided to create.

Four-year veteran defensive end Brett Keisel, an unrestricted player who drew interest from several other teams in the opening days of free agency, re-signed with the team. And the Steelers signed unrestricted free-agent safety Ryan Clark, who was a starter for the Washington Redskins the last two seasons.

Both players signed four-year contracts. Clark's deal is worth $7 million and it includes a signing bonus of $1.7 million. Keisel signed a $13.1 million deal that included a $3.29 million signing bonus.

Although he didn't start a single game for the Steelers in his first four seasons in the league, keeping Keisel onboard was one of Pittsburgh's biggest offseason priorities. The Steelers coaches feel the former Brigham Young standout is a future star in their 3-4 defensive front.

Retaining him became an even bigger priority Tuesday when the Steelers lost 12-year veteran end Kimo von Oelhoffen to the New York Jets as a free agent. Keisel will now step into the starting job at right end for the Super Bowl champions, filling the void created by von Oelhoffen's departure.

"I'm sad my boy Kimo is not going to be here," Keisel said. "He's one of my mentors. I'm excited about the opportunity, to show what I can do and to stay in Pittsburgh."

A seventh-round choice in the 2002 draft, Keisel's development was slowed by injuries in the past. But the onetime special teams contributor became a regular in the Steelers' defensive line rotation in 2005. In 13 games, he posted 13 tackles, but the coaches were most impressed by the three sacks Keisel generated as a backup. Keisel, 27, added five tackles and two sacks in the playoffs.

Clark, 26, will replace free safety Chris Hope in the Pittsburgh secondary. Hope has not yet signed with another team, but the Steelers are apparently not inclined to go to the financial lengths that it might take to retain him. Hope began visiting with other teams this week.

A four-year veteran, Clark played strong safety for the Redskins, but will line up at free safety in the Pittsburgh secondary, teaming with Pro Bowl strong safety Troy Polamalu. In 13 games last season, Clark had 72 tackles, three interceptions and four passes defensed. The Steelers like his tackling ability and feel he has more than enough range to make the move to free safety in their scheme.
