John Mullin and K.C. Johnson, of the Chicago Tribune, report the Chicago Bears have agreed to a five-year contract with free agent QB Brian Griese (Buccaneers), according to a source close to the player. Financial details weren't yet immediately available. Griese is expected to supplant QB Kyle Orton as QB Rex Grossman's primary backup.

Man, we just can't catch a break on this backup QB search.

On the plus side, Carson is expected to announce he's 4 weeks ahead of the schedule set for his rehab at his press conference tomorrow.

Big trade between Denver, the Jets, and Atlanta. Abraham being dealt probably means the Jets go with Mario Williams at #4 if he's there.

Edit: Didn't see this already posted. My bad.

John Abraham is headed to Atlanta in a complicated three-way trade involving the Broncos.

The Falcons will send a first-round pick (No. 15) to Denver in exchange for their first-round pick (No. 29 overall), a 2006 third-rounder, and a 2007 fourth-round pick. The Falcons then send the 29th overall pick to the Jets for Abraham. It's a great deal for the Falcons and Jets, who get exactly what they want. The Broncos are paying a lot to move up the 15th pick, but now have two of the first 22 picks overall. Abraham and Patrick Kerney could cover up a lot of ills for the Falcons defense. Its about effing time any deal involving Abraham got done.

Damn. The Broncos will probably take a WR now at 15. I really want Chad Jackson for the Phins so hopefully the Broncos take Holmes.

Even though im a Steelers fan im glad to hear hes alright it would have sucked if his career ended just because of a tackle that tore his ACL. I look forward to next seasons competition if he is healthy again.

In other news, Eric Moulds was given permission by the Bills to seek a trade today since he refuses to take a pay cut and the Bills refuse to keep him at his current salary. He won't bring anything more than a 4th rounder at his cap number, and even that may be pushing it.

it was stated they might look QB for the future too if one of them slip. So my hope is Young or Cutler fall like a rock then they will take one there. But I could see them going WR definitely too. What would be interesting is them going RB with Lendale White or DeAngelo Williams but doubt it they seem to take later round backs.

Agent: Arrington to visit

By GEOFF HOBSON

March 22, 2006

One of the agents for Pro Bowl linebacker Lavar Arrington said his client is headed to Cincinnati Wednesday night for a visit with the Bengals.

Carl Poston said Wednesday afternoon that Arrington is intrigued with the possibility of reuniting with Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis but the sides have yet to talk money for the best linebacker on the free-agent market.

Arrington would be a huge pickup for the Bengals

Yeah.

I'm not holding my breath on it happening. I'm not sure we'd give him 10 Mil.

Aaron Brooks signed with the Raiders, potentially making him a viable #2 fantasy QB next year and giving Oakland time to groom Young/Cutler if the Raiders decide to go that route.

ESPN's Len Pasquarelli reports Aaron Brooks has agreed to terms with the Raiders on a two-year contract.

Brooks has been in Oakland since Monday night and there had been strong speculation he'd sign a contract. The ex-Pro Bowler brings near the arm of 2005 starter Kerry Collins and a whole lot more mobility. We suspect he'll frequently put that athleticism to use with his new ballclub, whose offensive line is one of the league's worst. Mar. 22 - 7:09 pm et

Mike Vanderjagt, who was not welcomed back to Indianapolis this offseason despite being the most accurate kicker in NFL history, has agreed to terms with the Dallas Cowboys, an NFL source confirmed to SI.com.

Terms of the deal are not known, but Vanderjagt visited the Cowboys on Wednesday and agreed in principle to a contract that is expected to be completed and announced at some point Thursday.

Vanderjagt, who will be 36 on Friday, spent the past eight seasons in Indianapolis and was 23 of 25 in field goal attempts in 2005, with a long of 48 yards. But that accuracy did not count for much in an AFC divisional playoff game against the Steelers when he badly missed a 46-yard attempt on the final drive. The Steelers went on to win the Super Bowl as the conference's No. 6 seed, while the top-seeded Colts, who started 13-0, dealt with another bitter playoff disappointment.

Vanderjagt is the second headline-name kicker to switch teams this week, following Adam Vinatieri's signing with the Colts. The former Patriots star became the league's highest-paid kicker when he received a five-year deal to replace Vanderjagt. The contract calls for a $3.5 million signing bonus and is worth $7.5 million in the first three years.

The acquisition of Vanderjagt ends the Cowboys' revolving door at kicker. Dallas had three kickers in 2005, and the 9-7 Cowboys lost three games by three points or fewer, narrowly missing the playoffs. Dallas kickers were just 20 of 28 overall last season, missing three from 38 yards or less.

With their recent signings, clearly the Cowboys are the front runners for the 'all-character' team next year.

Breaking from their recent history of employing young placement specialists who worked for minimum wages, the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday signed unrestricted free agent kicker Mike Vanderjagt, a colorful eight-year veteran who is the NFL's career leader in field goal percentage.

League sources confirmed for ESPN.com that Vanderjagt, who arrived in Dallas on Wednesday to visit with Cowboys coaches and team officials, signed a three-year contract. Financial details were not yet available, but it is believed the contract averages about $2 million annually.

Adding a kicker of Vanderjagt's profile and price range is out of character for the Cowboys. Under owner Jerry Jones, the team's preference has been to develop its own kickers, often undrafted college free agents, and to invest very little in the position. But the Cowboys went through three kickers in 2005, converted only 21 of 27 field goal tries, and suffered all season at the position.

Dallas lost three games in 2005 by three points or fewer, and that may have swayed the team's thinking in pursuing a more proven and dependable placement specialist.

In Vanderjagt, the Cowboys are getting a kicker whose last effort, a missed 46-yard field goal attempt in the Indianapolis Cots' divisional-round loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, is not indicative of his career in the league. The veteran kicker, who began his professional career in the CFL after playing at West Virginia University, has never scored fewer than 104 points and has averaged 124.3 points.

Vanderjagt, who turns 36 next week, has converted 217 of 248 field goals, and that 87.5 percent success rate is the best in league history. He has also made 344 of 346 extra point tries.

The only shortcoming in Vanderjagt's game are his kickoffs, on which he has averaged 60.2 yards. The Colts employed a separate kickoff specialist to handle those chores the past two seasons. Vanderjagt has insisted he can kick off, however, and it remains to be seen how the Cowboys deal with that element.

Dolphins | Beasley signed

Len Pasquarelli, of ESPN.com, reports the Miami Dolphins have signed free agent FB Fred Beasley (49ers) to a one-year contract. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

beasily is a good pick up and solid Full back. Which is needed for the mularky system.

For Vandy my only concern is he kicked half of his field goals within a dome for his career. I wonder what his splits are for home and away for field goal percentage and range. Plus he is a bad kick off guy.

But if his break down for splits is good it is a great signing as he is so accurate in non pressure situations

Well he will still be kicking on artificial turf and a partial dome for 8 games a year.

Mark Curnutte, of the Cincinnati Enquirer, reports free agent LB LaVar Arrington (Redskins) did not visit the Cincinnati Bengals Thursday, March 23.

Perhaps he is on the verge of signing somewhere else?
