We don't need a cb in the draft anymore. Hopefully we can start working on that Dline or get a safety in Michael Huff or Darnell Bing.

This is a nice signing and another safety in the draft to watch is Jason Allen.

As a Giant fan, I can tell you Will Allen is the most frustrating player in the NFL to watch everty week. One week he'll shut down Randy Moss in Minnesota. The next week some 2nd string scrub from the Niners tears him up for 200 yds. And he can't catch a thing.

agreed, he has that potential though and we signed him for a very cheap amount for a CB. Saban is a Secondary specialist so I expect him to work him into shape. Plus his coverage scheme different down here in miami it will be a zone system which should help put his speed to use.

I like how we actually just flipped cornerbacks. I think Sam will be good for the NYG up there for a couple of years and Allen has potential (evil word) to be solid for us for a while.

Miami Secondary

Daniels FS/CB

Hill FS/CB

Tillman SS

Bell SS

Poole CB

Allen CB

Mitchell CB

Goodman CB

Definitely and interesting and young group there. I still wouldnt mind another Safety in the draft (Ko Simpson would be nice with a trade back).

Btw today Maddox and Julian Peterson are down at Fins camp. I am hoping we sign both of them to limit our draft needs even more.

Ew, Tommy Maddox.

I know this isn't free agency, but I guess it's related. The Bills signed Craig Nall today and Sirius radio reported they are now shopping J.P. Losman for a draft pick.

If Losman is traded for anything less than a high #2 (which no sane team would give up for him) two years after taking him as a late first rounder and giving up a future #1 and #4 to move up to get him, then this front office is even more incompetent than I thought. Giving up on a QB after he's started for less than a full season is incredibly stupid and shortsighted. Supposedly they'd then take Cutler or Young with the #8 pick if one falls to them.

Sometimes I hate being a Bills fan.

I think it'd be better to just cut Losman loose and admit defeat than try and fool themselves into thinking he's worth sticking with because they gave up so much for him. Granted, it'd would have been better to not even trade for him, but it's a little too late for that.

DAVIE, Fla. … (AP) … Cornerback Will Allen signed a $12 million, four-year contract with the Miami Dolphins on Monday after spending the last five seasons with the New York Giants.

The Dolphins also signed tight end Justin Peelle to a three-year deal, plus added wide receiver Kelly Campbell and defensive tackle Josh Shaw.

Allen is expected to replace Sam Madison, a longtime Miami starter whom the Giants signed as a free agent this month. Allen started 71 of the 72 games he played with the Giants, who drafted him in the first round in 2001. He had eight interceptions with the Giants.

Peelle was San Diego's fourth-round draft choice in 2002. He has 40 catches for 270 yards and four touchdowns in his career.

Campbell played for the Minnesota Vikings … and with their former quarterback Daunte Culpepper, whom the Dolphins acquired in a trade last week … from 2002 through 2004, catching 57 passes for 1,062 yards and eight touchdowns.

Shaw spent five games on the Dolphins' 53-man roster last season, and was inactive in each of those matchups.

I think it'd be better to just cut Losman loose and admit defeat than try and fool themselves into thinking he's worth sticking with because they gave up so much for him. Granted, it'd would have been better to not even trade for him, but it's a little too late for that.

No, definitely not. First, they'd take a $2.4 million cap hit to cut him or trade him, so that would not be worth it just to get him off the roster. Second, compare his first 9 games to Eli Manning's first 9 games - the numbers are extremely similar (Losman has better numbers but he also had been in the league for a year, although he missed the majority of his rookie year with a broken leg). I'm not saying Eli Manning is going to be a Hall of Famer, but I believe he'll be an above average QB for a long time.

I do agree that no team would, or should, give up more than a sixth or seventh rounder for him, because the Bills have no leverage in any trade negotiations. I also agree that the initial trade for him was stupid (I was pissed at the time, not because they acquired him but because they gave up so much to trade up for him).

Still, giving up on a QB after only 9 starts isn't smart, especially if he came out of college with first round talent.

Maddox seems like an ass. Especially with that fake story he made up about his kid.

Why didn't we just keep Madison? I'm pretty sure he got significantly less cash from the Giants.

he wouldnt restructure with us..

allen is a solid pick up overall really. he has potential and with the system we run really and honestly madisen isnt good for it. allen is a better fit where allen didnt fit the giants system

at least that is what i am told for it

forgive the no caps at all my keyboard shift keys are broken

as for maddox, he did well for mularky really but i dont care much for him either way. i do not mind him that much if he knows the system and can do for a year or two.

i would say that Justin Peelle, was signed as a steal rate. he is a good blocker and could be a solid future tight end for us

Yeah, we use a lot of man coverage thanks to Tim Lewis and his blitzing schemes. I wouldn't say that Allen is good in zone coverage, just that he's not quite as bad in zone as he is in man. Like I said, he's super flakey. He'll shut down the best WR one week and blown up by a team's 3rd string receiver the next. Simply brutal. He is good in run support though, and defends the screen very well. But he can be beat deep very easily and has no hands.

exactly and madisen is the exact opposite. He is a poor tackler, so never been strong in run defense but he has wonderful hands. He is great within blitzing man on man coverage but horrible in zone packages (like which we ran the beggining of last year when he got beat like a drum).

So it is a good flip honestly, both signed for cheap

I feel like we need coverage from our CBs more so than we need them to tackle people. That's what our front 7 is for, and the front 7 has done a pretty good job.

just when i thought the Niners couldn't get any worse, we lose our best player...Julian peterson signed with the Seahawks

next year will be the third straight year of being the worst team in the league (i don't care about w-l record, we were worse than anyone)...this bites...i remember when we would win the division and go to the conference championship every year, and that was considered a major disapointment...now I would kill just to get to .500

The one good thing about this is the bandwagon jumpers slowly leaving the ship

The 'hawks didn't match Hutchinson's offer either. With Peterson gone, hopefully the Dolphins can land Arrington now.

Seahawks singed Peterson to a 7-year, 55M dollar deal...more than what Hutchinson got...intresting...i think the sticking point was that clause about being the highest paid OL on the team...Peterson gets mad money....that is my only fear with what LaVar will want to be a Dolphin...i mean 7-55....what could Lavar be thinking then???

Vinatieri signs with Indy....

The most accurate field goal kicker in NFL history is about to be replaced by one of the most clutch placement specialists in the game. ESPN.com has learned that unrestricted free agent Adam Vinatieri, who provided the winning field goals in two of the New England Patriots' three Super Bowl victories, has reached a contract agreement in principle with the Indianapolis Colts. There remains some work to be done on the contract, but the deal could be completed by Tuesday night.

Contract details were not immediately available.

Vinatieri would replace longtime Colts kicker Mike Vanderjagt, the most accurate field goal kicker in NFL annals, who is also an unrestricted free agent. And the move for Vinatieri is fraught with irony, given the rivalry between the Patriots and the Colts.

A 10-year veteran, Vinatieri, 33, has converted 263 of 321 field goal attempts and 367 of 374 extra point tries in 160 games. He recently visited with Green Bay officials but left without a contract.

Vinatieri ranks at No. 7 on ESPN.com's Top 50 unrestricted free agents list.

nice signing by the Colts...they finally get a reliable kicker that won't have any drunken tirates about the quarterback

The Bill Simmons column on this is going to be amazing.

He's taken so many (justifiable) shots at the Colts over the years. His e-mail box is probably getting pwned right now.

Good call on Simmons - I wonder what he'll do if the Pats go and pick up Vanderjagt to replace Vinatieri.

Peterson's younger, correct?

I think Arrington said he wanted somewhere in the neighborhood of $10 mil guaranteed. That's probably do-able, although I'd rather see more done to the secondary because I don't think Allen and Poole is the answer.

John Abraham is headed to Atlanta in a complicated three-way trade involving the Broncos.

The Falcons will send a first-round pick (No. 15) to Denver in exchange for their first-round pick (No. 29 overall), a 2006 third-rounder, and a 2007 fourth-round pick. The Falcons then send the 29th overall pick to the Jets for Abraham. It's a great deal for the Falcons and Jets, who get exactly what they want. The Broncos are paying a lot to move up the 15th pick, but now have two of the first 22 picks overall. Abraham and Patrick Kerney could cover up a lot of ills for the Falcons defense. Its about effing time any deal involving Abraham got done.
